‘I can't wait to see what the future has in store for me' – 23-year-old tells of excitement at being crowned Miss NI
Carly Wilson was crowned as Miss NI at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on Monday night. The 23-year-old Ulster University student impressed the panel of judges on the night, securing the title ahead of 25 accomplished finalists and taking over the role from last year's winner, Hannah Johns. Carly expressed her joy at winning the contest. "I am absolutely delighted to wear the Miss Northern Ireland crown and be given the opportunity to represent Northern Ireland in this way,' she said. "Taking part in the contest has been such an immense experience and I never thought I would come this far. "I've always looked up to previous Miss Northern Ireland winners, so I hope to follow in their footsteps and become a positive role model for other local girls. "The competition has already been such a life-changing experience, and I have made friends for life. 'I can't wait to see what the future has in store for me!" Contest organiser and ACA Models managing director Victoria McElveen praised the new titleholder. "Miss Northern Ireland is more than just a crown, it's a platform to lead, inspire and make a meaningful impact,' she said. 'Carly has shown strength, authenticity and a real sense of purpose throughout the competition. "She represents the confidence and ambition of today's women, and I'm certain she will be a positive and influential role model during her year.' Outgoing titleholder Hannah Johns offered her support to the new Miss NI. "I've had an incredible year as Miss Northern Ireland. It's been a real honour fulfilling this role and I've gained so much from my experience,' she said. 'It's with a heavy heart that I relinquish my crown, but I am so happy to be passing it to Carly, who is such a deserving winner, and beautiful inside and out. "I wish her all the very best for her year as Miss Northern Ireland 2025 and I am so excited to follow her journey." Carly will receive an extensive prize package worth thousands of pounds, including a year's modelling contract with ACA Models, an all-expenses paid trip to Miss World, a year's beauty treatments from Beauty Boulevard, a smile makeover, complimentary dining at Nu Delhi Lounge in Belfast worth £1,200, a make-up hamper from Make Up Pro worth over £500, dental treatments from New Life Teeth worth £1,000 and much more. Runner-ups on the night included Amelie Moore, aged 17, who took second place, and Tillie Doran aged 18, who came third.

Miss England hits out at ‘vindictive' Miss World bosses
Miss England has criticised the organisers of the Miss World pageant as 'vindictive and very bitter' after she left the contest early. Milla Magee, 24, a lifeguard and a keen surfer from Newquay, Cornwall, quit the 2025 Miss World pageant final in Hyderabad, India, after she claimed she and the other finalists were being 'exploited'. Her departure in May led to a war of words with the contest organisers, who have dismissed her claims as a 'desperate attempt to gain attention'. Julia Morley, the organisation's chief executive, reportedly told a Hindu newspaper that Ms Magee left because she 'believed she didn't stand a chance in the competition'. On Saturday, Ms Magee hit back, claiming the pageant purported to be about 'beauty with purpose' but was actually about 'wearing different ballgowns every day and what you look like'. In comments reported by The Guardian, she said: 'What Julia said was vindictive and very bitter. And it was a ridiculous statement. 'I did not leave because I thought I was not going to win. I left because I wanted to stand for what I believe in and it didn't align with my values. 'And I would hate for another young girl to go into this system after watching me this past year and have to experience the same.' Ms Magee said she agreed to take part in the contest because she believed it would be a platform to promote her campaign to have CPR included in the school curriculum. But she claimed that she and the other contestants were left with little time to promote their causes and were instead expected to look pretty and entertain guests. She also alleged that a man had walked up to her and said 'Next time I'm in London or England, hook me up', which had left her feeling uncomfortable. 'I went there to make a difference but we had to sit like performing monkeys,' she previously told The Sun. 'It's stuck in the past. Morally, I couldn't be a part of it. 'As Miss England, I was told the role would be 'beauty with a purpose' – and it was. I've campaigned for the causes I am passionate about, and have a voice as any modern woman would expect. 'But [Miss World] is simply about the way you look and present yourself. As far as I could see it hasn't changed from the 1960s and 1970s.' Following her departure, Miss World posted a series of videos on social media showing Ms Magee smiling while taking part in interviews and sitting in the hotel during the contest. The organisers said that Ms Magee 'expresses gratitude, joy, and appreciation for the experience' in the footage, serving 'as a direct contradiction to the recent false narratives'. They referred to 'false and defamatory statements' that they said were 'completely unfounded and inconsistent with the reality of her time with us'. Ms Magee was replaced as Miss England at the last minute by Charlotte Grant, 25, of Kirkby, Merseyside, a part-time model and owner of a cosmetics business. Ms Grant was told as a child she would never walk again after breaking her back in an accident on a bouncy castle but ultimately recovered from her injuries. Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsr won the final on Saturday. Hasset Dereje Admassu of Ethiopia was the first runner-up,

Ishaan Khatter takes the stage with BTS' Mic Drop for Miss World 2025; leaves desi K-pop fans unimpressed: ‘Ye kya hai?'
It was all set to be a moment. Ishaan Khatter — the chiselled, chest-baring Bollywood boy who seems determined to be the poster child of Summer 2025 — had the global Miss World stage, a pumped-up crowd, and a playlist stacked with hits. And then, it happened: Mic Drop — and not in the way BTS intended. Khatter, who took the stage at the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant held at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad, delivered a series of high-octane performances. Some of them hit the right notes: his electric groove on Bruno Mars' Uptown Funk got the audience moving, and his nostalgic nod to Zingaat brought back his breakout Dhadak days. But then came the curveball — BTS's explosive anthem Mic Drop. On paper, this could've been iconic. Ishaan grooving to one of BTS's most hyped tracks? A perfect collision of East and East, Bollywood meeting K-pop. It had potential. Unfortunately, what fans got was… well, not that. A post shared by Ishaan (@ishaankhatter) Instead of channelling BTS's sharp, hard-hitting choreography that fans have memorised down to the millisecond, Khatter opted for a remix, not of the track, but of the moves. And not in a good way. The original intensity and precision of Mic Drop was replaced with…something. Indian K-pop fans were left unimpressed. Social media lit up almost immediately with reactions that ranged from mild dismay to full-blown secondhand embarrassment. 'Omg what am I seeing bro, nice try but need more practice 👏👏,' one user commented diplomatically. 'Ye kya dekh liya mene inko nhi aata to kyu karte hai 😂,' said another, throwing in a familiar question most of us ask during talent show disasters.'Bol do ye edit h,' said one comment, desperate to believe it wasn't real. 'Choreography left the world🤸🏻♀️,' wrote a fan, mourning the absence of any recognisable moves. 'I'm embarrassed on their behalf 😭,' summed up the general sentiment. A post shared by aaru💜(thv) (@aradhya_fab7) Meanwhile, the Miss World event carried on in grandeur. With 108 global contestants competing, the night ultimately belonged to Opal Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand, who was crowned Miss World 2025 by Krystyna Pyszkova of the Czech Republic. In a moment that stood in sharp contrast to Khatter's performance, Opal's heartfelt answer during the Q&A round struck a universal chord. A post shared by Miss World (@missworld) When asked by judge Sonu Sood about the power of truth and personal responsibility in storytelling, Opal responded with grace: 'Be the person that someone or the other will look up to. I always believe that no matter who you are and no matter how old you are, no matter what title you hold in your life, there is always a person next to you — whether it's a child, whether it's an adult, it could even be your own parents — that look up to you in a way. And the best way to lead people is to lead with their gracefulness in your actions. That is the best thing we can do to the people around us and in our world,' she said. A mic drop, you could say — the kind that doesn't need backup dancers. As for Ishaan, there's no denying he has star power, but if he's going to embrace the global stage, especially K-pop territory, he may want to take a few notes…or classes.

Eatala Rajender is a ‘confused and opportunistic' politician: Congress MP
Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy launched a scathing attack on BJP leader and Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender, calling his political journey 'confused and opportunistic'. Addressing a press conference, he said Mr. Rajender has come out of the BRS physically although his heart and mind continues to be with the BRS. Even the BJP leaders were confused given his incoherent political stance that was revealed when notices were served to him by the Judicial Commission on the Kaleshwaram project. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy questioned Mr. Rajender's remarks about PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, who rose through the ranks from NSUI to become the PCC president. 'Mr. Goud's journey is one of commitment while your political journey is full of flip-flops,' he said. He alleged that Mr. Rajender is a 'Reddy' inside his house but turns into a 'OBC' when he steps out of his house. Targeting BRS leader T. Harish Rao, the Congress MP rejected the allegations levelled by Mr. Rao over Miss England leaving the Miss World beauty pageant midway. 'If Mr. Harish Rao has any video evidence, he should reveal it rather than discredit the government with baseless allegations,' he added. He termed laughable Mr Harish Rao's claims that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was reviewing with officials only from the Command Control Centre as the Secretariat was named after Dr. Ambedkar. 'Revanth Reddy can review progress from anywhere, even from Mulugu forest,' he said. The Congress MP also took a dig at BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao's claims that KCR would return as the CM. 'By spending black money in the USA, your father will not return to power,' he said.
