X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFN2025 Miss State Football PreviewOffense & Defense Breakdowns Mississippi State Bulldogs Key to the Season Generate a pass is everything to the entire season. Mississippi State came up with two sacks against Eastern Kentucky in the opener, two against UMass, and a mere six in the other ten games. Six times the D failed to generate a sack. Mississippi State Bulldogs Key Player Dwight Lewis III, CB NAIA star needs to rise up and rock at one corner spot. He has size, experience, and was solid over the last two seasons with seven picks and 58 tackles at Marian University. At the very least, he has to be a top backup option. Mississippi State Bulldogs Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss Top Transfer In: Fluff Bothwell, RB State quarterback Luke Kromenhoek might have the most talent and biggest upside - he might be the star of the season if things go a certain way. But the 5-10, 219-pound Bothwell should add another dimension with his power. He averaged 7.5 yards per carry last year for South Alabama with 13 touchdowns, and he can catch, Transfer Out: Brice Pollock, QB top targets Kevin Coleman (Missouri) and Mario Craver (Texas A&M) is a problem, but not having a corner who came up with a team-leading nine broken up passes with 48 stops really hurts. He's part of Texas Tech's huge haul of transfer talent. Mississippi State Bulldogs Key Game Arizona State, Sept. 6Of course there are higher profile games than this for Mississippi State, and of course it wants to get past Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl to end the regular season. But Arizona State is the measuring stick year, before anyone knew what was coming, Cam Skattebo and the Sun Devils powered past the Bulldogs 30-23 in Week 2. All-SEC Star Makes Final NBA Draft Decision on Wednesday
The 2025 NBA Draft combine has come and gone, and many notable college basketball stars are deciding whether to return to their respective programs. With the NCAA's early entry withdrawal deadline approaching on May 28, the final list of NBA Draft prospects is beginning to take shape. However, one major SEC star has decided to return to school. Advertisement After falling in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, Mississippi State Bulldogs point guard Josh Hubbard declared for the 2025 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. However, despite making the second-team All-SEC in his sophomore season (2024-25), Hubbard wasn't invited to either the NBA draft combine or the NBA G League Elite Camp. Alabama Crimson Tide guard Mark Sears and Mississippi State Bulldogs guard Josh HubbardWill McLelland-Imagn Images During the draft process, Hubbard made it clear that he was eyeing feedback from NBA teams, hoping for some constructive criticism. 'We just wanted to take advantage of that rule and see what was out there,' Hubbard said. 'Just hearing feedback from the NBA teams, and seeing what I need to improve on for as far as the league and in college. Just to know what I can do better.' Advertisement With that being said, it appears Hubbard has found what he needs to improve on. On Wednesday, On3's Joe Tipton reported that the sophomore will be withdrawing from the draft, returning to Mississippi State for his junior season. "NEWS: Mississippi State guard Josh Hubbard is withdrawing from the NBA Draft and will return to Starkville next season, he told @On3sports," Tipton wrote on X. "Expected, but exciting news for Chris Jans." Hubbard has been one of the best players for the Bulldogs since joining in 2023. In his freshman season, he came off the bench in 19-of-35 games, averaging 17.1 points on 38.5% shooting and 1.7 assists. Advertisement He improved his numbers this past season as a full-time starter, tallying 18.9 points on 40.2% shooting and 3.1 assists per game. Nick Saban Sends Blunt Message About Expectations for Alabama in 2025
For some of the teams in the SEC, such as the Mississippi State Bulldogs or Vanderbilt Commodores, a 9-4 season is viewed as a success. To the Alabama Crimson Tide, such a season could land a head coach on the hot seat. Nick Saban isn't putting any added weight on his successor, Kalen DeBoer. Saban, who put up a 206-29 record in Tuscaloosa from 2007-23, spoke to the media Wednesday at the Regions Tradition Pro-Am in Hoover, Ala. He didn't give a certain objective for DeBoer to strive for when asked about how his former program should fare this upcoming season. Advertisement "I don't really have an expectation," Saban said. "I know those guys are working hard to do the best they can." Nick Saban makes his remarks to the assembled crowd of friends, supporters and agencies Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium during the annual Nick's Kids Foundation Luncheon. © Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK Last October, Alabama was 4-0 and ranked atop the Associated Press poll before visiting Vanderbilt and coming up short against the Commodores for the first time since the 1980s. It was the first time an AP No. 1 team was upended as a three-touchdown favorite since 2008. Two weeks later, the Crimson Tide fell short in visiting the Tennessee Volunteers and were later beaten by Oklahoma. DeBoer's crew couldn't outclass Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl, either. Saban does feel as if there will be an increased level of comfort this time around. Advertisement "You know, it was a difficult transition with the number of players that moved, new system, new people, you know," Saban said. "Players in the organizations had to make adjustments. I would say that everybody's probably a lot more settled in this year." Related: Kalen DeBoer Provides Key Quarterback Battle Update

Final SEC Softball Standings after wild regular season
Final SEC Softball Standings after wild regular season The 2025 college softball regular season is in the books, and now it's time for one of the most exciting months on the sports calendar. Conference tournament action will set the stage for the NCAA Tournament and Women's College World Series. If SEC play has been any indication, this year might be the most wide-open run for the national championship in recent memory. The SEC tournament will begin on Tuesday in Athens, Georgia, with the bottom four teams kicking off the action in the single-elimination bracket. Oklahoma won't play their first game until Thursday but will face the winner of the 8-9 matchup between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and LSU Tigers. Oklahoma swept Mississippi State a few weeks ago and hasn't played LSU this season. Now that the regular season is in the books, here's a look at the final SEC Softball Standings. More: Social media reacts to Oklahoma Sooners clinching SEC championship 1. Oklahoma Sooners (43-7, 17-7) On the one hand, the Sooners clinched the SEC title. On the other hand, the series loss to Florida highlighted the pitching issues that could keep the Sooners from winning it all once again. They have the potential to be really good, but it's been a roller coaster ride of late. The Aggies closed the season strong with a series win at Tennessee. They'll be a force in the SEC tournament. 3. Texas Longhorns (45-9, 16-8) Texas took care of business in Lexington with their sweep of the Wildcats. Oklahoma may have swept the Longhorns, but they're still a threat to win it all. 4. Tennessee Volunteers (40-12, 15-9) Tennessee may have lost the series to the Aggies, but they hold series wins over Oklahoma and Texas this season. What a season for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Bri Ellis has been must-see television this year. She's hit .487 this season with 25 home runs and 68 RBIs. She should be the frontrunner for SEC Player of the Year. 6. Florida Gators (43-13, 14-10) It was a statement series win for the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Can they ride that momentum into the SEC tournament? South Caorlina was picked to finish last in the SEC and exceeded all expectations. 8. Mississippi State Bulldogs (36-15, 13-11) Mississippi State closed the season with a series win over rival Ole Miss. They've been really good this year and when they get hot offensively can be tough to beat. 9. LSU Tigers (40-13, 12-12) LSU came into conference play with just one loss and were one of the top five teams in the nation. SEC play has been a rough go of it. 10. Alabama Crimson Tide (36-20, 12-12) Alabama's series loss to South Carolina dropped them in the standings and sets up an rivalry matchup in the SEC tournament with Auburn. 11. Ole Miss Rebels (35-16, 11-13) Ole Miss' only series wins this season came over Georgia and Missouri. They'll get Auburn in round one of the SEC tournament. 12. Georgia Bulldogs (30-19, 7-16) Georgia closed the season losing a series to last place Missouri. Not a great finish for a team that was picked to finish eighth in the SEC this season. 13. Kentucky Wildcats (29-25, 7-17) The Kentucky Wildcats were run-ruled twice against the Longhorns, but gave Texas a challenge in game two. Kentucky will take on Georgia in their first game of the SEC tournament. 14. Auburn Tigers (31-21, 6-18) A disappointing year for an Auburn Tigers team that made it to the NCAA tournament last season and had to watch Bri Ellis star for the Razorbacks. 15. Missouri Tigers (25-30, 6-18) Missouri has been around the bottom of the standings most of the season, but they finished on a high note with a series win against Georgia. The Tigers may not have won a lot of series, but they've taken games from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Mississippi State along the way.
