Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz signs extension: Contract details

Navigating the vaunted SEC is always difficult, particularly for teams who are not historically among the "haves" in the conference. The Missouri Tigers know as much firsthand. With head coach Eli Drinkwitz having led Missouri to back-to-back 10-win seasons and bowl bids in each of his first five years in Columbia, the program isn't letting the polarizing coach go. Drinkwitz, known among college football fans for his dry humor and willingness to speak his mind, has inked an extension with the Tigers that will last through the 2029 season (essentially a one-year extension from his previous contract through 2028). Missouri had previously extended Drinkwitz through the 2028 season at the end of 2023. REQUIRED READING: Eli Drinkwitz SEC Media Days: Five key takeaways from Missouri football coach in Atlanta Drinkwitz's extension will not be coming with a pay raise, but it does reportedly come with another valuable prize: A greater hiring pool for assistants, per ABC 17's Nathalie Jones. Eli Drinkwitz contract details Drinkwitz is now extended through the 2029 season for Missouri. He is slated to make $9 million in 2025, before his salary rises to $9.25 million in 2026 and $9.5 million in 2028. In total, that would put his deal at $46.5 million, per The Columbia Daily Tribune in the USA TODAY Network. Eli Drinkwitz buyout Should Drinkwitz abscond from Missouri, the extension also makes his buyout steeper. He would owe the university $5 million if he leaves without cause before Dec. 1, 2025; $4 million if he does so between Dec. 2, 2025 and Dec. 1, 2027; $3 million from Dec. 2, 2027 to Dec. 1, 2028; and $1 million henceforth. Drinkwitz's name frequently crops up when marquee coaching destinations open up, but there has been little indication he intends to leave Missouri. "I'm incredibly grateful for the continued belief in our vision for Mizzou Football," Drinkwitz said in Missouri's news release. "The Board of Curators, President (Mun) Choi, (athletic director) Laird Veatch and our donors and fans have shown a deep commitment to building a championship-caliber program. That means investing in the people throughout our building who work tirelessly for our student-athletes. I'm proud of the staff we've assembled and excited to keep pushing forward together." Eli Drinkwitz Missouri record Drinkwitz has built a solid record for Missouri in his first five seasons with the Tigers. He is 38-24 with Missouri and has gone 2-2 in bowl games (the Music City Bowl in the 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID-19), including wins in his last two bowl. Most notably, Missouri won the Cotton Bowl over an admittedly shorthanded Ohio State team in the 2023 season to cap off an 11-2 year, Missouri's most wins in a season since 2014. The Tigers will open their season Aug. 28 against Central Arkansas. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY Sports: Eli Drinkwitz contract details: Missouri football coach inks extension

Kansas City Chiefs 90-man roster by jersey number: No. 34, RB Elijah Young

The Kansas City Chiefs signed rookie running back Elijah Young as a free agent after the 2025 NFL draft. A Knoxville, Tennessee native, Young played with the Missouri Tigers from 2020 through 2022 before transferring to play for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in 2023 and 2024. In 56 games played at the collegiate level, Young rushed for 1764 yards and seven touchdowns in 384 attempts. He also recorded 91 catches for 766 receiving yards and six touchdowns in the passing game. Though it is unlikely that Young will push for a significant role in Kansas City's offense as a rookie, he could be an ideal candidate to sign with the Chiefs' practice squad after training camp and the preseason. What jersey number does Elijah Young wear? Elijah Young currently dons the No. 34 jersey for the Kansas City Chiefs, which he shares with veteran defensive back Mike Edwards. How much money will Elijah Young make in 2025? According to Young will receive a base salary of $840,000 in addition to a prorated signing bonus of $1,000 in 2025. Top Elijah Young highlight

Mizzou Becomes Favorite to Land Top-5 Class of 2026 Recruit

Mizzou Becomes Favorite to Land Top-5 Class of 2026 Recruit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A new report from Joe Tipton of On3 has the Missouri Tigers suddenly at the front of the race for one of the nation's top basketball prospects. Advertisement Five-star shooting guard Jason Crowe Jr. is now projected by multiple insiders to commit to Mizzou. The 6-foot-3 rising senior, ranked No. 5 nationally in the Class of 2026 by 247Sports, would be Missouri's highest-ranked commitment since Michael Porter Jr in the class of 2017. The Tigers entered the picture late in the recruiting process, but they're now considered the team to beat for the California native. Crowe is known for his elite scoring ability, deep shooting range, and confidence as a three-level scorer. He has a smooth stroke, thrives off the dribble, and brings an advanced offensive package that is rarely seen at the high school level. Advertisement For months, the Kentucky Wildcats had been the frontrunner for Crowe. In a recent interview, he referred to Kentucky assistant Jason Hart as "like an uncle" and mentioned he trained him when he was younger. Despite the connection, Crowe never took an official visit to Lexington, leaving the door open for other programs. Missouri Tigers head coach Dennis Bush-Imagn Images According to Tipton and other recruiting analysts, Missouri has 'quietly gained serious momentum' and currently holds the Crystal Ball prediction on 247Sports. While Crowe hasn't released an official list of finalists, schools like USC, Texas, Baylor, UCLA, and Arkansas have all remained involved. Advertisement He is set to announce his decision on July 18th, and with less than two weeks to go, Mizzou fans have good reason to be excited. A commitment from Crowe would not only be historic, but it could signal a new era for Dennis Gates and the future of Tiger basketball. Mizzou Picks Up Commitment From Safety Tony Forney Jr. out of Georgia

Mizzou Picks Up Commitment From Safety Tony Forney Jr. out of Georgia originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For the third straight year, the Missouri Tigers have celebrated the Fourth of July with a commitment. This year, three-star defensive back Tony Forney Jr. pledged to the Tigers on Friday, choosing Mizzou over Auburn, Georgia, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin. Advertisement The 5-foot-11, 180-pound safety is ranked No. 347 nationally, No. 67 positionally and No. 85 in Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite Ranking. Forney announced his decision during an Instagram livestream. Forney took an official visit to Mizzou on May 30, and he also made official visits to Auburn, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh in June. He also held offers from several other power conference schools, including Texas A&M, LSU and Clemson. Forney is the 10th commitment to the Tigers' Class of 2026, and he's the seventh since June 1. Forney is also the second Georgia commit of the 2026 recruiting class after three-star offensive lineman Brandon Anderson committed to the Tigers last Sunday. Advertisement Missouri Tigers mascot Truman dances on the sideline against the Iowa Hawkeyes during the second half at Nissan Roberts-Imagn Images Forney attends Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia, where he had a pair of interceptions last season (tied for the most on the Longhorns team), even returning one for a touchdown. Forney helped the Georgia team reach the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs where they fell to eventual state semifinalist Creekside 42-35 on Nov. 22. Forney continues a three-year tradition of recruits committing to Mizzou on Independence Day. In 2023, wide receiver James Madison II and defensive back Cameron Keys committed to the Tigers, and last year, wide receiver Jayvan Boggs pledged to Mizzou. Boggs eventually ended up at Florida State, though, after decommitting from both Mizzou and UCF.
