New on Netflix in August 2025 — every movie and show coming this month

Netflix has announced everything coming to the streaming service in August 2025, and there's one big name that will be dominating Netflix this month: "Wednesday." Yes, the hit horror comedy is back for season 2 this month, though only just the first part of the season. For the rest of season 2, you'll have to wait until September. On the Netflix movies front, there are a couple of titles to keep an eye on. "My Oxford Year" comes first, and stars Sofia Carson as an American abroad who falls in love with a charming local boy. Then, towards the end of the month, we get "The Thursday Murder Club," a murder mystery starring Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, the latter of whom is thankfully not doing their accent from "MobLand." Aside from these top picks, I've got the full slate of everything new on Netflix this month listed below. Plus, we have a roundup of what's leaving Netflix in August 2025, so you have one last chance to watch. Here's everything coming to — and leaving — Netflix this month. "Wednesday" season 2 is undoubtedly the most anticipated show or movie on Netflix this month. It's likely one of the most anticipated shows of the year. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. For those who didn't catch season 1, this horror comedy series stars Jenna Ortega as the iconic Wednesday Addams. In the first season, she was tasked with solving a murder mystery at her new school, Nevermore Academy. This season, though, she needs to solve a murder before it happens, because she might be the perpetrator. Check out the first six minutes of this gloriously unhinged season if you dare. Stream on Netflix starting Aug. 6 "My Oxford Year" stars Sofia Carson as Anna De La Vega, a New York City girl freshly arrived at Oxford University. Not long after arriving, she meets Jamie (Corey Mylchreest), and they begin a whirlwind romance. But Anna plans on returning to New York and Jamie never planned on going with her. So, as that fateful day of departure approaches, things start to get messy. This movie might not be for everyone, but if you love a rom-com, our Senior Writer Alix Blackburn thinks this movie "looks like pure comfort wrapped in charm" and could be one of the must-watch movies of the summer. Stream on Netflix starting Aug. 1 Some people get together for a book club or jigsaw puzzles. These elderly amateur sleuths? They get together to solve unsolved murders. "The Thursday Murder Club" stars Helen Mirren as Elizabeth, a retired spy, Pierce Brosnan as Ron, a retired union leader, Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim, a retired psychiatrist and Celia Imrie as Joyce, a retired nurse. That's an incredible cast in its own right, but the list of amazing actors doesn't stop there. David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Tom Ellis and Richard E. Grant also all feature in what looks to be a charming murder mystery. Stream on Netflix starting Aug. 28 What happens when you gather all the singles from Netflix's stable of hot reality shows together? You get the reality dating series "Perfect Match." In this show, contestants from "Love Is Blind," "Too Hot To Handle," "Temptation Island" and more all gather under the watchful eye of host Nick Lachey and try to see if they're a perfect match — or if they can set others up on the perfect date. This season, though, there's a twist. "Perfect Match" season 3 will also feature former contestants from non-Netflix shows like "The Bachelor and "Love Island." You won't want to miss it. Stream on Netflix starting Aug. 1 Fans of "The Diplomat" and "The Night Agent," Netflix has a new political thriller for you: "Hostage." The show stars Suranne Jones as Abigail Dalton, the Prime Minister of the U.K. She's in a tense border standoff in a summit with the French President, Vivienne Toussaint (Julie Delpy), when suddenly she gets the call — her husband has been abducted. Now, Abigail faces the ultimate choice: give up her power and get her husband back, or refuse to negotiate and risk losing him. It's real cooking—mistakes and all. With co-host Chris Ying a.k.a. 'The Voice of the Internet' lending his trademark insight and levity, this season invites viewers into the kitchen with a new offering, real-time interaction — including live Q&As and audience-driven decisions. Helen Mirren says she is 'ageing with fun' as she marks 80th birthday

Actress Helen Mirren has said she is "ageing with fun" rather than "gracefully" as she marks her 80th birthday. The Academy Award-winning actress from London, who turned 80 on Saturday, is best known for playing the Queen and detective Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect. Speaking to OK! Magazine, Mirren said she feels "insulted" when people tell her she looks good for her age, adding that she finds it "patronising". Mirren said: "I am not ageing gracefully at all! I hate that term – it sounds like you have to be elegant and accepting, and, no, I am not. "I am ageing with fun, with commitment, but not gracefully. Who cares about graceful? "We just do grow older, there's no way you can escape that. You have to grow up with your own body, your own face and the way it changes. "It's not always easy but it is inevitable. You have to learn to accept it." As she marks her milestone birthday, she also shared her tops tips to keeping healthy and feeling good. She said: "It's as important to make the inside of you as healthy as the outside of you. I always go everywhere with my vitamins. That is probably the most important thing in my beauty bag, actually. "What you eat, what you drink, what you don't smoke, really makes a massive difference to your skin, especially as you progress through life. "It's incredibly important to feed the inside of your skin, as much as the outside of your skin." Mirren plays the Harrigan family matriarch Maeve Harrigan alongside Pierce Brosnan in Guy Ritchie's MobLand. She also stars in the upcoming Netflix film adaptation of Thursday Murder Club, based on the book series by game show host and author Richard Osman where Dame Helen plays one of four retirees alongside Brosnan, Celia Imrie and Sir Ben Kingsley, who spend their time solving cold case murders.

MobLand Season 2: Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on July 19, 2025, 18:30 IST Last updated July 19, 2025, 10:38 IST Alright, MobLand fans, let's talk about the show that's got us all glued to our screens. Season 1 of this gritty Paramount+ crime drama was a wild ride—think Peaky Blinders meets The Sopranos with a splash of Guy Ritchie flair. With 26 million viewers hooked and a renewal locked in, we're all itching for MobLand Season 2. So, what do we know about the release date, cast, and plot? Let's dive into the details, straight from the latest buzz and a few sneaky hints from the cast and crew. MobLand Season 2 Release Date Speculation No official release date yet, but let's piece together the clues. Season 1 filmed from November 2024 to March 2025 and hit screens by March 30, 2025—crazy fast, right? If the team keeps that pace, we could see Season 2 as early as spring 2026, maybe even late summer. But coordinating A-listers like Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren takes time, so some folks are betting on early 2027. Posts on X are split, with some fans hoping for a quick turnaround and others expecting a wait for that cinematic polish. Either way, we are keeping our fingers crossed for sooner rather than later. MobLand Season 2 Cast: Who's Returning? The MobLand Season 2 cast is expected to feature most of the surviving characters from Season 1, with the possibility of new faces joining the fray. While no official casting announcements have been made, producer David Glasser has hinted that 'everybody's coming back… one big family.' Here's a look at the major players likely to return: Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza : The street-smart fixer for the Harrigan family survived a dramatic stabbing in the Season 1 finale, and writer Jez Butterworth has confirmed Harry's return, stating, 'We love Harry. We love Tom.' Expect Hardy to remain at the heart of the action. Pierce Brosnan as Conrad Harrigan : The Harrigan patriarch, imprisoned at the end of Season 1, is set to be freed thanks to Harry and Kevin's efforts. Brosnan has expressed enthusiasm for reprising his role. Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan : The fierce matriarch, also behind bars at the end of Season 1, is expected to return as a central figure in the family's power struggles. Paddy Considine as Kevin Harrigan : Conrad and Maeve's son, who's plotting a takeover, will likely drive much of the drama in Season 2. Anson Boon as Eddie Harrigan : The young Harrigan, reeling from the revelation that Conrad is his father, not his grandfather, is set for a complex arc. Joanne Froggatt as Jan Da Souza : Harry's wife, who stabbed him in a moment of tension, may explore reconciliation or further conflict. Froggatt has hinted at Jan's deep love for Harry, suggesting an emotional storyline. Mandeep Dhillon as Seraphina Harrigan : Conrad's daughter is expected to return, continuing her role in the family's dynamics. Lara Pulver as Bella Harrigan : Kevin's wife, united with him in their ambitions, will likely play a key part in Season 2. Jasmine Jobson as Zosia : Harry's right-hand woman is another likely returnee, bringing her loyalty and grit to the table. Janet McTeer as Kat McAllister: The mysterious gangster introduced in Season 1 could become a major player in the upcoming season. Characters like Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell), Brendan (Daniel Betts), and O'Hara (Lisa Dwan) met their end in Season 1, but they could appear in flashbacks. New characters are also expected, especially if the show expands internationally, as teased by Tom Hardy. MobLand Season 2 Plot: What to Expect Warning: Spoilers for Season 1 ahead! The Season 1 finale, 'The Beast in Me,' wrapped up the bloody feud between the Harrigans and the Stevensons, with Harry orchestrating a plan to eliminate Richie Stevenson and his crew. However, the victory came at a cost: Conrad and Maeve were imprisoned due to a scheme by Alice (Emily Barber) and Colin Tattersall (Toby Jones), though evidence secured by Harry and Kevin could secure their release. Meanwhile, Harry's near-fatal stabbing by his wife Jan and Eddie's discovery that Conrad is his father set the stage for intense family drama. Season 2 is likely to focus on the fallout within the Harrigan family. Kevin's ambitions to seize control could spark a power struggle, especially with Conrad and Maeve's return. Eddie's shifting loyalties, particularly his strained relationship with Maeve after learning she's not his grandmother, will add another layer of tension. Harry's recovery and his dynamic with Jan will also be a key focus, with potential for reconciliation or further betrayal. Tom Hardy has teased an international expansion for the series, hinting at exploring 'the control of drugs, ammunition, weapons, and people' across Europe, Africa, and beyond. This could introduce new crime families and global stakes, taking MobLand beyond its London setting. The arrival of Kat McAllister in Season 1 also suggests new enemies or alliances on the horizon.
