Operation Sindoor not over, India will respond firmly to every act of terror: PM Modi in Kanpur

Issuing a strong warning to Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said Operation Sindoor was not over and asserted that India would respond firmly to every act of terrorism, without distinction between state and non-state actors. Speaking at a rally at the Chandra Shekhar Azad University for Agriculture ground in Kanpur after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for projects worth ₹47,600 crore, Modi made it clear that India's response to terrorism would be uncompromising and entirely dictated by its armed forces. 'If I may put it in Kanpuriya style — dushman kahin bhi ho, haunk diya jayega (the enemy, wherever they may be, will be struck),' he said, stressing his government's zero-tolerance approach. The prime minister stated that India would no longer be deterred by the threat of nuclear weapons. 'India will not be intimidated by hollow atomic threats. Our decisions will not be based on such posturing. Those responsible for terrorism — whether within the state or beyond — will be held accountable,' he said, referring pointedly to Pakistan. 'The drama of state and non-state actor will not be at play with us. We won't differentiate whenever we respond to terror attacks,' he said. Mentioning a three-point doctrine on counter-terrorism, Modi said: 'Every terrorist attack will be answered with strength. The armed forces will determine the manner, timing and place of the response. The conditions under which a counter-strike is made will also be decided by the forces.' He also invoked Atmanirbhar Bharat as a cornerstone of India's growing strategic and economic autonomy. The prowess of India-made weaponry was seen by the world in Operation Sindoor, he said. 'The homegrown systems, including the BrahMos missile, penetrated hundreds of miles deep in enemy territory and delivered precise strikes. The explosions occurred exactly as intended. This is the power of Make in India,' he said. He also said Pakistan begged for the ceasefire and added the country that was pleading before India must know the Operation Sindoor was not over. 'It should not have a false sense of security,' he said. 'We destroyed terror camps deep across the border. The courage of our armed forces forced the Pakistan army to plead for a ceasefire. Let there be no illusion — Operation Sindoor is ongoing.' Modi focused heavily on Kanpur's progress in his 37-minute-long speech. He said the kind of infrastructure, amenities, and resources once seen only in major metro cities are now becoming visible in Kanpur as well. 'The Kanpur Metro stands as proof that with the right intentions, strong willpower and an honest government, genuine efforts can be made for the development of both the state and the nation,' he said. The Kanpur node of the UP Defence Industrial Corridor would be instrumental in turning Uttar Pradesh into a defence export hub, he said. 'The ordnance factories have been turned into new age companies, Brahmos is in UP, AK 203 is being built in Amethi. This node would see many top companies investing here. Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh are in the fast lane of progress with focus on connectivity and the infrastructure. The Kanpur-Lucknow expressway would be operational shortly bringing the travel time to 40 to 45 minutes. It would be linked to Purvanchal expressway and Ganga Expressway. A ₹1000 crore elevated track from Mandhana and Bithoor is coming up, which would immensely improve traffic flow and help the people.' Speaking at the same public meeting, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday underlined Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India's demonstration of indigenous defence prowess, hailing it as a powerful symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat and a testament to the success of the Make in India initiative. 'The destruction of the enemy's air defence system marks a historic milestone for the Indian armed forces and showcases the strength of our indigenous military capabilities. It is a direct result of the vision behind Make in India, launched by Prime Minister Modi a decade ago,' Adityanath said. Modi arrived in Kanpur directly from Patna and spent over two hours in the city.

Operation Sindoor a powerful symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat: Yogi Adityanath

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday underlined Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India's demonstration of indigenous defence prowess, hailing it as a powerful symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat and a testament to the success of the Make in India initiative. He was speaking at a public gathering in Kanpur during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first visit to the state following the launch of the operation. India was growing in stature on the global stage under the prime minister's leadership, Adityanath said. Referring to Operation Sindoor—India's military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam—the chief minister said, 'The destruction of the enemy's air defence system marks a historic milestone for the Indian armed forces and showcases the strength of our indigenous military capabilities. It is a direct result of the vision behind Make in India, launched by Prime Minister Modi a decade ago.' Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor led to the elimination of over 100 terrorists and was followed by a resolute Indian response to subsequent Pakistani aggression, including targeted strikes on enemy airbases. Adityanath described the operation as a 'pledge for justice,' aligning with the nation's firm resolve to defend its sovereignty and security. 'In recent years, India has answered its adversaries with surgical strikes, air strikes, and now, with Operation Sindoor, our military might has once again spoken the language our enemies understand. This operation has made the world acknowledge the strength and resolve of the Indian armed forces,' he said. 'The entire country stands united behind the prime minister's vision of a self-reliant and secure India,' he said. The chief minister also praised the prime minister for giving top priority to national security, while simultaneously advancing development. During the visit, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth ₹47,600 crore across Uttar Pradesh. These included five thermal power plants and the second phase of the Kanpur Metro project.

BJP leader admits downing of five Indian jets

Listen to article Subramanian Swamy, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, has admitted that Pakistan downed five Indian fighter jets, including Rafale aircraft, during the four-day military confrontation between the two neighbouring countries earlier this month. Swamy, a known critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fired a broadside against his own party's government, denouncing the failure of the authorities in apprehending the perpetrators of April 22 Pahalgam attack in which 26 tourists were killed. Tensions between the two countries escalated after the attack in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) tourist resort. It turned into a full scale military confrontation, when India fired missiles at mosques and civilian targets in six Pakistani cities in the wee hours of May 7. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was swift to respond to Indian aggression, downing six enemy aircraft. On May 10, Pakistan launched operation Bunaynum Marsoos, hitting dozens of Indian military targets and forcing New Delhi to request for the ceasefire, which Pakistan accepted. Though the international media confirmed that Pakistan had shot down Indian warplanes, including its prized Rafales, but the Indian government kept mum to officially concede to the Pakistan's claims. Swamy is the first senior BJP leader to finally admit that Pakistani was right. "Pakistan shot down five of our aircraft using Chinese fighter jets. Their performance was commendable, whereas our French Rafale jets were underwhelming," Swamy said, while speaking on a podcast. "Insufficient," he replied, when asked about the French-made Rafale jets. Swamy also levelled serious allegations regarding the controversial Rafale deal, claiming that there was widespread corruption in the procurement process. "This will never be investigated as long as Modi is the prime minister, because he won't allow it," he asserted. Swamy denounced the Indian government's failure in apprehending those, who perpetrated "a grave crime" in Pahalgam. "We should have avenged it, but we failed to do so," lamented Swamy, who served in the Rajya Sabha – upper house of Indian parliament – from 2016 to 2022. In response to another question about Modi's public rapport with US President Donald Trump, he dismissed the relationship as "superficial". He said: "Modi is a master manipulator, deceiving the public. But Indians living abroad know the truth — he has no real stature in USA. He is, in essence, a servant." Swamy also accused Modi of caving under international pressure during the crisis. "The United States asked for a ceasefire, and you submitted. Who authorised that decision? Was it the military? No. It was your fear of the United States, and especially Donald Trump. Modi's cowardice has been exposed." He repeated his call for Modi's resignation. "We need a new course of action in the coming months," he said. "Modi must step down. He has failed to uphold the founding principles of our republic so he has to go. It's not just my opinion — many others agree, though they are afraid to say it publicly," he added.
