Youth urged to harness social media for unity, national values
JITRA — Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa called on young people to harness social media and every available platform to promote unity and uphold national values. He urged them to steer clear of hate and divisive rhetoric that could undermine the nation's harmony. 'In this regard, I urge the students here today to instill love for the country in everything they do. Study diligently, as knowledge is the foundation for safeguarding our independence and advancing the nation. 'Value the peace and freedom we enjoy today, hard-won through the sacrifices and struggles of those before us,' he said at the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign for Kedah, held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jitra here today. The younger generation is the nation's future heirs, and without early cultivation of patriotism and love for the country, they risk losing touch with their roots, becoming distracted by globalisation, and losing their identity as Malaysians, said Mohamad Fauzi. He said the Information Department (JAPEN) has also launched the '1 Home, 1 Jalur Gemilang' campaign in conjunction with the 2025 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. 'This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering love for the country by flying the Jalur Gemilang, a symbol of pride, unity, and national identity. 'Let us raise the flag at our homes, buildings, business premises, vehicles, and government offices, representing the spirit of struggle, national dignity and the Malaysian identity,' he said. Today's programme also featured the Kedah leg of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy, involving 43 vehicles from the ministry's departments and other agencies. Side events included the Safe Internet Campaign, promoting ethical online practices; a national quiz to strengthen patriotism; and 12 booths by government and private agencies offering direct services to the public. Also present were Communications Ministry senior division secretary (Management) Mazlan Abd Mutalib and JAPEN director-general Julina Johan. — BERNAMA
