Johor road users eligible for compensation after RM700,000 payout
ISKANDAR PUTERI: Highway users involved in accidents caused by damaged road surfaces are eligible to claim compensation from the relevant authorities, with one motorist recently awarded more than RM700,000 in damages, the state government said." Johor's executive councillor for Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, said claims must be supported by clear evidence and documentation. He said a compensation amount of RM721,000 was awarded by the Johor Bahru Sessions Court after a motorist suffered losses linked to road damage. "If an accident occurs, or a vehicle is damaged due to road defects, road users can submit a claim to the concession company responsible for maintaining the route," he was quoted as saying by Kosmo!. Motorists are advised to provide photographs of the accident and vehicle damage, images of the road condition, the location and time of the incident, a police report, and any relevant receipts. "A formal letter can then be submitted to the appropriate authority, such as the local council, the Public Works Department, or the Malaysian Highway Authority," he added. Mohamad Fazli was responding to a question from Datuk Pandak Ahmad (BN–Kota Iskandar), who had raised concerns about the quality of road resurfacing and patchwork in the state.

Johor exco member rubbishes ‘sabotage' claims behind delay in water repair job
JOHOR BARU: A state executive councillor has denied claims that repair works for last week's water disruption were deliberately delayed to "sabotage" the PKR national congress. Johor works, transportation, infrastructure and communications committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said there was no connection between the two incidents at all. "Macam tak ada kerja pula (It is as if we have nothing to do). 'This (the water issue) has nothing to do with the congress,' he told a press conference on the sidelines of the Johor state assembly here on Monday (May 26). Mohamad Fazli was responding to media questions about rumours that the repair works were delayed due to the congress. The PKR national congress, which includes the congresses for PKr Youth and Wanita PKR, were held last Friday and Saturday. On the water disruption, he said workshops would be held soon with water operator Ranhill SAJ to establish better standard operating procedures (SOPs) to handle such crises in the future. 'We will be having the workshop in a week or two to review the existing SOPs, including the communication process with account holders. 'One of the main issues raised was the water operator's failure to inform users early on about the faulty water pumps, which led them to continue using water from their reserve tanks as usual,' he said. Asked if action would be taken against the operator, Mohamad Fazli said only the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) had the authority to do so. 'Only SPAN can take action, as they are the regulatory body for water operators. 'They have received a report on the incident and are monitoring the situation. 'We will wait to see what they decide, whether to take action against the operator or review the existing SOPs,' he said. Earlier, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that over 155,000 account holders affected by the disruption would receive a 15% rebate. Onn Hafiz also apologised on behalf of the state government to all Johoreans affected by the crisis. The water disruption, which began on Wednesday (May 21), lasted until Saturday (May 24), affecting account holders in Iskandar Puteri and Johor Baru.

JB water cut: Repairs completed, supply being restored in stages
Residents getting water from a tanker near the Perling market in Johor Bahru. PHOTO: THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK JOHOR BAHRU - The major water disruption affecting some 300,000 people in Johor Bahru is being resolved in stages, with supply restored to 57 per cent of consumers on the morning of May 23. Johor works, transportation, infrastructure and communications committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said repairs at the Sungai Johor water treatment plant were completed at 7am. 'With all repair works done, supply is being restored to consumers,' he said. 'Some consumers may get their supply a bit later on as the empty tanks along the pipeline will need to fill up first before water reaches the last homes along the system.' He added that updates will be provided to consumers from time to time. Water utility company Ranhill SAJ had said supply was disrupted after heavy rain on May 20 damaged the motors of six pumps at the treatment plant. It was reported that an estimated 300,000 consumers in Johor Bahru were affected by the subsequent water cut, with repairs expected to be completed by midnight on May 21. However, Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi told the state assembly in a special address that work on the pumps was taking longer than anticipated. He also ordered Ranhill SAJ to call a crisis meeting and get the pumps back online. 'The pumps were supposed to be fully repaired on May 21, but they are still a problem,' he said, adding that the water company was told to expedite repairs. Other districts were instructed to send water tankers and bottled water to the affected housing areas, Datuk Onn Hafiz said. Ranhill SAJ has also dispatched 16 water tankers to critical locations, including hospitals and dialysis centres.
