Jordan halts hiring of foreign workers

Jordan's Ministry of Labor suspended Thursday the recruitment of non-Jordanian workers after a three-month window. The decision aims at meeting the labor needs of various economic sectors, the ministry's spokesperson, Mohammad Al-Zyoud, said in a statement Thursday. He noted that the ministry will not reopen recruitment without a thorough and comprehensive review of the labor market. Al-Zyoud stressed that inspection campaigns will continue in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and Public Security Directorate (PSD) across all governorates to identify and take legal action against employers hiring undocumented foreign workers. The inspections also aim to ensure that workers brought in by private-sector businesses are employed by the companies that sponsored them. Strict penalties will be imposed on any business found in violation, including suspension of recruitment privileges and refusal to renew work permits issued under the company's name.

Ministry of Labor Clarifies Changes to Job Title of Residential Building Cleaners - Jordan News

Ministry of Labor spokesperson Mohammad Al-Zyoud clarified that the recent amendments to the 2025 system regulating work permit fees for non-Jordanians apply only to foreign workers employed as "cleaners" in residential buildings. اضافة اعلان He stressed that foreign workers employed by cleaning companies or in non-residential places are not affected by these changes. Al-Zyoud explained that any employer of a non-Jordanian worker currently holding a work permit under the job title 'cleaner' (commonly referred to as a 'building guard') in a residential building, and whose permit has expired or will expire, must renew the permit under the new title 'Building Services Worker' with an annual fee of 700 dinars, instead of the previous 420 dinars. He added that any current permit under the old title will remain valid until its expiration, after which it must be renewed under the new job title and updated fee structure. The clarification aims to distinguish between different categories of cleaning workers and ensure compliance with the new regulations affecting work in residential settings only.

Government: 54,000 Migrant Workers Have Not Issued Work Permits Since 2021 - Jordan News

Government: 54,000 Migrant Workers Have Not Issued Work Permits Since 2021 The spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor, Mohammad Al-Zyoud, said on Monday that more than 3,000 individuals of various nationalities have been deported recently for violating labor laws, as part of an intensive inspection campaign that began at the start of this year. اضافة اعلان Speaking to Al-Mamlaka TV, Al-Zyoud stressed that regulating the labor market, including non-Jordanian (migrant) workers, falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Labor. He noted that the current government does not see the need for what is known as a 'status correction campaign,' which includes exemption from work permit fees. He explained that the status correction campaign launched in 2021 revealed a large number of migrant workers who failed to regularize their legal status according to the law. Any adjustments or policy changes regarding migrant labor, he said, are based on requests from employers across various sectors. Al-Zyoud pointed out that 54,000 migrant workers have not rectified their status or obtained valid work permits since 2021. He added that these figures continue to change, as many workers have been deported or left the country voluntarily to avoid complying with the legal requirements. Some have regularized their status through their employers in different sectors, in accordance with the law. Al-Zyoud emphasized that the Ministry rejects employers' requests to exempt violating workers from fines, stating that the purpose of all these measures is to organize the labor market and ensure that all workers in the Kingdom comply with the law. He concluded by noting that inspection campaigns are ongoing to monitor migrant labor and verify the legality of their employment status.
