Three detained, 11 motorcycles seized in Miri's ‘Op Samseng Jalanan'
Eleven motorcycles seized and three local men were detained in Op Samseng Jalanan held on May 31 around Miri city and along Jalan Miri Bypass. – Police photo MIRI (June 2): Eleven motorcycles were seized and three local men detained during Op Samseng Jalanan, a road safety operation carried out around Miri city and along Jalan Miri Bypass on May 31. Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, in a statement today, said the operation was conducted between 11pm and 3am by a team of traffic police from the Miri District Police Headquarters. The offences including expired vehicle licences, driving without a licence, structural modifications, modified exhausts, missing side mirrors, missing or fancy registration numbers, failure to display the 'P' (probationary) plate, and faulty motorcycle brakes. 'Three local men, aged 16, 21 and 25, were inspected and detained on suspicion of committing offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. 'If convicted, all suspects will be charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a minimum fine of RM5,000 up to RM10,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence,' ACP Mohd Farhan said in the statement. Additionally, 11 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act for documentation purposes. ACP Mohd Farhan urged the public to report any street racing or road hooliganism by contacting Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Mohammad Amiruddin Hamdan at 018-952 9957 or 085-430 479, or by visiting the nearest police station. He added that such operations will continue periodically, advising road users—especially motorcyclists—to ride responsibly and avoid illegal street racing, modifying their vehicles, and not gather by the roadside in a manner that causes traffic congestion or create noise disturbances that disrupt public peace as negligence will pose a danger to themselves and other road users.

PDRM honours retired Miri officers with PJPN medals during welfare visits

MIRI (May 31): In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) recognised the contributions of two retired officers during welfare visits led by Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah. The visits, conducted on May 30, were part of PDRM's continued efforts to honour its veterans, particularly those facing health challenges or unable to attend formal ceremonies. The initiative reflects the force's enduring commitment to the well-being and dignity of its former personnel. One of the honourees was Sergeant Mansoor Abdullah, a retired officer residing in Kampung Bukit Bom, Niah. He received the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN) medal and certificate at his home after missing the official ceremony held on May 7 at Ruai Kenyalang, Miri District Police Headquarters. The delegation also visited Corporal Jahawi Rosli, 80, at his residence in Kampung Dagang, Bekenu. Corporal Jahawi, who has been undergoing dialysis treatment for over two decades, was similarly recognised for his service and received moral support from the visiting team. According to a statement, the welfare visit was not only to present the medals but also to assess the retirees' current health and living conditions, offering reassurance and continued care to former members of the police force. Raid on Miri house sees cops seize ecstasy worth RM137,064, arrest two suspects for trafficking

MIRI (May 19): A raid on a house at Jalan Taman Delight Utama here on May 12 saw police seize 117,064 grammes of powder suspected to be ecstasy and 400 tablets believed to be ecstasy weighing 146 grammes. Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah told a press conference today that during the raid police arrested a foreign national. 'On May 12, approximately 9pm, a raid on a house at Jalan Taman Delight Utama conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the Sarawak Police Contingent headquarters saw the arrest of a 44-year-old male foreign national. 'The team also seized approximately 117,064 grammes of suspected ecstasy powder and 146 grammes, that is equivalent to 400 tablets, suspected to be ecstasy pills, with a total estimated value of RM137,064,' he said. Mohd Farhan said at around 11am the following day, the narcotics team arrested a 43-year-old local man at the same location in connection with the same case. He said police also seized a saloon car estimated to be worth RM50,000 and jewellery valued at RM34,638.80. Urine tests on both suspects returned positive for drugs. He revealed that the local suspect has prior criminal records, while the foreign suspect did not. Mohd Farhan said the two were part of a syndicate, which used the house to store drugs. The foreign suspect acted as the storekeeper, while the local suspect was the runner responsible for distributing drugs around Miri, he said. 'The foreign suspect received a monthly wage of RM1,500 and a commission of between RM500 and RM1,000, while the local suspect was paid RM200 for each delivery,' Mohd Farhan said. Both suspects were placed on a seven-day remand order, which will end on May 20 and May 21 respectively. Mohd Farhan shows packets containing ecstasy. Mohd Farhan said the drugs seized are sufficient to supply 177,464 addicts. He thanked the public for the tip-off and pledged police would continue to track down remaining members of the syndicate. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking. The Sections provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment, and if not sentenced to death, shall be punished with a minimum 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction. Man arrested at Miri airport in attempt to smuggle drug
MIRI: Police foiled an attempt by a local man to smuggle drugs with the seizure of the contraband, believed to be methamphetamine weighing 10.5kg, in a raid at the Arrival Hall of the Miri Airport last Tuesday. District police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, in a statement posted on the Miri District Police Facebook page, said the 20-year-old suspect, who is an unemployed man from the interior of Sarawak, was arrested immediately after claiming a box at the baggage claim area. "Further inspection of the box found it contained 10 packages of drugs suspected to be Methamphetamine (syabu) hidden under a layer of snack food packages," he said. He said the police also seized 120 vape pods containing a liquid believed to be Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), weighing approximately 986 grams. The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM380,000. Mohd Farhan said preliminary investigations found that the suspect has travelled to Kuala Lumpur to collect the package before returning to Miri. The case is investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, and if not sentenced to death, whipping of not less than 12 strokes to the offender. Mohd Farhan also reminded the public, especially youths, to be wary of lucrative job offers circulating on social media as they may be traps set by syndicates to recruit unsuspecting individuals as drug mules. – Bernama
