SHAH ALAM: Selangor deputy police chief Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan has been named the acting state police chief, effective tomorrow. He replaces Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, who will begin his new role as director of Bukit Aman's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) on July 21. The handover ceremony was held at Dewan D'Cerana, Selangor contingent police headquarters (IPK), with Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Management Department director Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid in attendance. In his farewell speech, Hussein thanked PDRM leadership for their trust during his tenure, citing key successes such as a 12 per cent drop in the crime index last year and major drug busts worth hundreds of millions. 'Between 2023 and 2024, Selangor police confiscated over 10 tonnes of narcotics valued at RM300 million, preventing distribution to more than 21 million potential users,' he said. Hussein also noted that arrests in Selangor surged from 22,000 in 2023 to 40,000 in 2024. Commercial crime investigations saw 7,115 cases opened in 2023, with losses at RM510 million, rising to 7,731 cases and RM680 million in losses in 2024. Traffic enforcement issued 1.06 million summonses in 2023, collecting RM135.7 million, while 2024 saw 1.13 million summonses, generating RM128 million. The handover-of-duties ceremony took place at Dewan D'Cerana at the Selangor contingent police headquarters, and was witnessed by Royal Malaysia Police management department director, Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid. In his speech, Comm Hussein expressed gratitude to the police leadership for their trust and support during his two years and five months at the helm, highlighting key achievements, such as a 12% reduction in the crime index last year and the successful foiling of major drug smuggling attempts, involving seizures worth hundreds of millions of ringgit. He said that, between 2023 and 2024, Selangor police seized over 10 tonnes of drugs, worth RM300mil, a move which prevented the narcotics from reaching more than 21 million potential users. "The Selangor contingent recorded 22,000 arrests in 2023, a figure which rose to 40,000 in 2024. Meanwhile, the state Commercial Crime Investigation Department opened investigation papers on 7,115 cases in 2023, involving losses of RM510mil, compared with 7,731 cases in 2024, with losses amounting to RM680mil," he said. SHAH ALAM: Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Commissioner Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan has assumed the role of acting Selangor police chief. This follows the handover of duties from Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, who was recently promoted to Federal Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director, effective July 21. The handover ceremony today was witnessed by Federal Police Management Department director Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid. In his speech, Hussein expressed his gratitude to the leadership and the contingent for their trust and support during his tenure. "I am thankful to Allah for the opportunity to serve as Selangor Police Chief for two years and five months. "I deeply appreciate the confidence given to me to continue my service at Bukit Aman," he said. Hussein reflected on the key achievements during his time in Selangor, including a 12 per cent reduction in crime in 2024 and significant successes in drug enforcement. "In 2023, we seized 5.2 tonnes of drugs worth RM155 million, preventing an estimated 10.56 million dosesfrom reaching the streets. "In 2024, seizures rose to 5.8 tonnes valued at RM145 million, equivalent to 11.55 million doses. "The contingent also arrested 22,000 suspects in 2023 and about 40,000 in 2024, while the Commercial Crime Investigation Department recorded 7,115 cases in 2023 involving losses of RM510 million, and 7,731 cases in 2024 involving losses of RM680 million. "In terms of traffic enforcement, 1.06 million summonses were issued in 2023 with collections amounting to RM135.7 million, and 1.12 million summonses in 2024, generating nearly RM128 million," he said. These achievements, Hussein said, reflect the dedication of the officers, personnel, and civilian staff of the contingent. "Teamwork has been the backbone of our success, and the contingent's commitment to integrity and excellence should continue under Zaini's leadership," he said. The ceremony also saw the handover of the state Police Family Association of Malaysia (Perkep) chairmanship from Datin Liliyana Mohd Harun to its acting chair, Zurim Md Khalid.
