Will Ferrell's New Netflix Show Just Set Up The Perfect SNL Reunion

Will Ferrell marked the debut of his latest film, 2025 movie schedule release You're Cordially Invited, months ago and, since then, the A-lister has been lining up other film-related gigs. However, the major Saturday Night Live icon has also been making moves within the TV space. On that note, he's set to lead his first TV show, which will eventually be available to Netflix subscription holders. As the show takes shape, Ferrell and co. have now lined up an SNL reunion for him, and it's too sweet for words. The Anchorman icon is headlining a-yet-to-be-titled series in which he plays a golf legend. While the notion of that seems funny enough, the show just landed a major star in the form of Molly Shannon. According to Netflix's press release, Shannon has been tapped to play the role of Stacy, who's the ex-wife of Will Ferrell's character on the show. What's also great is that the trade describes Stacy as having a bit of a potty mouth, and I am really hoping this means we'll hear Shannon drop her fair share of F-bombs. I've been waiting for another Ferrell/Shannon collaboration for a little while now. Shannon and Ferrell starred alongside each other during five seasons of Saturday Night Live. Since their time on NBC's sketch comedy series, they've also joined forces for the feature films A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar (an SNL movie spinoff about Shannon's Mary Katherine Gallagher character) and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Shannon and Ferrell also appeared together as themselves for the latter's emotional documentary, Will & Harper. Honestly, it feels like a no-brainer to pair Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell up again. The two stars have excellent comedic chops on their own but, together, they're pure dynamite. To me, the mere idea of them playing ex-lovers is just too funny, and I'm already wondering whether that relationship is truly contentious. On the one hand, these exes could still have a soft spot for one another. Yet I also wouldn't mind if the producers craft a volatile relationship that sees both characters humorously bringing out the worst in each other. Ferrell was initially set as co-creator of the 10-episode show alongside fellow comedian Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz, according to Deadline. However, both Rabinowitz, Youssef and fellow collaborator Andy Campagna exited the project in 2024 over creative differences. Since then, new creative voices have been brought in, including Ferrell's friend and fellow comedy writer Harper Steele. Will Ferrell currently has a few streaming productions cooking at the moment. He's starring alongside Zac Efron in Prime Video's Judgement Day, and Efron dropped a set photo to tease the film. Ferrell's also teaming up with Amazon MGM for another movie called Tough Guys, which will see him share the screen with Ryan Gosling. Meanwhile, Molly Shannon recently delighted audiences with her portrayal of Bev Melon in the hit streaming show Only Murders in the Building. As intrigued as I am to see the Elf star work with the aforementioned talent, the allure of his latest team-up with Molly Shannon is just too hard to resist. Molly Shannon, who was an SNL cast member from 1995 to 2001, exclusively told PEOPLE why Lorne Michaels is 'irreplaceable' as the sketch comedy show's showrunner Shannon also discussed longtime cast member Kenan Thompson as a potential successor to Michaels Michaels created SNL 50 years ago in 1975Molly Shannon thinks Lorne Michaels is a 'superstar.' The White Lotus actress, 60, revealed during a PEOPLE in 10 interview why 'Lorne is irreplaceable' as Saturday Night Live's showrunner. 'It's his show, his vision,' Shannon, an SNL cast member from 1995 to 2001, says of Michaels, 80, who created the show in 1975. 'There's no one who could replace him. It would not be the same show,' she continues. 'He's just a one-of-a-kind genius. Brilliant. Smart.' Asked what her thoughts were on longtime SNL cast member Kenan Thompson, 47, stepping in as a potential replacement as showrunner whenever Michaels departs, Shannon sang Thompson's praises. 'I love this idea. He's the greatest — I adore Kenan,' Shannon says of Thompson, a cast member on SNL since 2003. '[Kenan is] so talented. How I Travel: Molly Shannon Saunas While Her Family Surfs
It's a bit surprising to learn that Molly Shannon of all people spends most of her vacations in surfing hot spots around the world, as she tells Condé Nast Traveler. What's perhaps less unexpected is that this beach bum is really, really polite to flight attendants. "Because I fly Los Angeles to New York a lot on one particular airline, I know a lot of the pilots and attendants. I've gotten to know them,' says the actress. 'I feel like we're all working together, so I say 'Good morning!'' Shannon, who's currently a partner for the supplement Proactive Support from the Makers of Tylenol, chatted about her life in a surf family (her two children are in their early twenties), cowering from monkeys in Bali, and her first-ever first class flight, which was to Budapest. Her priorities when planning a vacation: When I'm traveling for fun, definitely the beach. I love the tropical vacation. That's my favorite. Fun family dinners, reading, relaxing, swimming. I like to keep it simple. What guides their choice of destinations: We're a big Hawaii family and a big surf family. My son and husband are really big surfers and my daughter does it too. I tried it a couple of times years ago, and it's really not my thing—but I appreciate it. Taking a lesson was great. I was like, god, this requires such upper-body strength. I'm proud that I tried it! How she spends her flight time: It's a nice, quiet time to read. Sometimes I download TV shows for the plane, but mostly I read. I'll tear through a book. I don't usually work on planes. Sometimes if I'm on my way to do a job, I have to memorize lines and that's kind of a drag, so I won't do it for more than an hour at a time. The best vacation of her life so far: Bali, Indonesia. My son Nolan surfed Uluwatu. My friend Tamra Davis knows a lot about Bali, so she was like, 'You've got to go here, do this, eat at this restaurant.' It was everything I would have wanted and more—just a wonderful family vacation. We stayed at a hotel that was off-the-charts fantastic. There were so many monkeys trying to get into our room, so we were laughing and videotaping them. Sometimes [my family] would leave to go get breakfast and I'd be swimming in the pool and the monkey would come back around. Oh god, I was scared! But it was a magical vacation, with the best food. I would love to go back to Bali. The most random place she's been recognized: Nothing too weird, but my daughter was doing a semester abroad in Madrid and I felt pretty relaxed there, walking around with a baseball cap or whatever. We were in a [clothing store], and two women were really staring at me while I was shopping. Looking at me like, 'Do I know you?' Maybe they think I'm a school teacher. They were really staring! It took me by surprise.
