Anubrata skips cop summons again; lawyer claims ‘AI plot'
1 2 Suri: Trinamool's Birbhum strongman Anubrata Mondal skipped police summons for a second consecutive day on Sunday. Instead, his lawyer met the investigating officer with a detailed medical report explaining his absence. Mondal has reportedly been advised bed rest for five days. Amid this, TMC suspended the party's Chatra Parishad president Bikramjit Shaw, a Mondal confidante, for six years for attacking Bolpur IC Liton Halder in a now-deleted social media post. Mondal's lawyers and aides, however, cited a "conspiracy" involving "AI" to explain the four-minute purported conversation with Halder, which was littered with threats and abuses directed not only at the officer but also at his wife and mother. Prodded by the party, Mondal has already tendered an "unconditional apology" for his comments. In his tirade, Shaw even dared the IC to act against him. Hurling allegations against the police officer, Shaw claimed that Halder's "illegal acts" will be "punished by the people of Birbhum". Shaw took down his post a little later but TMCP state president Trinankur Bhattacharya summarily suspended him, saying his post was "unacceptable" and brought "disrepute to the party". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Was Everyone's Dream Girl In 90's, This Is Her Recently. I Am Famous Undo Mondal's lawyer Bipad Taran Bhattacharya claimed that he was a "victim of conspiracy", refusing to elaborate citing the ongoing probe. Mondal was first summoned to the Bolpur SDPO on Saturday, failing which he was served a second summons, asking him to present himself by 11am on Sunday. He failed that, too. Around the same time, Bhattacharya reached the police station. Emerging out, Bhattacharya, who was initially very reluctant to respond to reporters' queries, said: "He (Mondal) is very ill." "Anubrata Mondal is a victim of conspiracy. We have faith in law, judiciary, courts and the administration. We have faith in people. Beyond that, I will not say a word," the lawyer said. Asked repeatedly if Mondal would move for anticipatory bail, he said: "I will not speak on it since the matter is sub judice." The fact that Mondal may take a conspiracy alibi became apparent on Sunday morning when a local TMC neta, Debabrata Sarkar, who went to the Bolpur SDPO, told reporters while stepping out that "AI has been used to doctor the audio tape". Sarkar did not elaborate and only said, "He (Mondal) is ill. He is at home." Asked repeatedly whether Mondal told police that AI has been used to doctor the audio, Sarkar responded curtly: "Ask police. I am not here to speak with the media. Mondal will do what the party says. The party will speak on it."

TMC leader Anubrata Mondal fails to appear before police for questioning
Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal failed to appear before police for questioning for the second time on Sunday in connection with the case of "derogatory and abusive language' during phone conservation with a police officer, claiming that he was "unwell", a source said. One of Mondal's close aides instead appeared on his behalf at the office of SDPO, Bolpur and told reporters that the former TMC Birbhum district president was "very ill and was advised bed rest". Mondal's close aide, Gagan Sarkar, also claimed that the TMC leader did not call anyone and the voice was manufactured using Artificial Intelligence (AI) during a phone conversation with a police officer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top-Podologe sagt: Das hier wirkt bei Nagelpilz wie ein Hochdruckreiniger Gesundheitswoche Mehr erfahren Undo "Mondal is unwell and has been advised bed rest. Mondal did not call anyone, and the voice that was heard was manufactured using AI," the aide of Mondal said. The TMC leader was asked to appear before the police at the office SDPO on Sunday at around 11 am for questioning in connection with the "derogatory and abusive" language issue. Live Events Later, Mondal's counsel appeared at the SDPO office and claimed that the leader has been framed and the entire matter was part of a bigger conspiracy. "Anubrata da is unwell. He is a victim of a bigger conspiracy. He has been framed. Everything will come out during the investigation. We will cooperate with the investigating agency. We have faith in the law. We have told the IO everything," Mondal's counsel said. The TMC on Friday condemned the "derogatory and abusive" language allegedly used by Mondal during the phone conversation with a police officer posted at the Bolpur Police Station. Mondal issued a written apology, an hour after the party statement, saying he could never imagine "to insult any police personnel, from an ordinary constable to any senior officer". An audio clip, purportedly featuring Mondal's voice, went viral on Friday. In the clip, the Birbhum strongman is allegedly heard threatening the Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of a police station in the Birbhum district over the phone. PTI independently could not verify the authenticity of the audio clip. An FIR was lodged against Mondal under various sections of the BNS, and later, a notice was issued for him at the TMC office. Police had asked Mondal to appear before its investigation officer on Saturday morning for questioning.

Anubrata cites ill-health to skip cop call, police issue 2nd summons
Kolkata/Bolpur: Birbhum Trinamool strongman Anubrata Mondal failed to appear before the Bolpur sub-divisional police office on Saturday, prompting cops to issue a second notice, asking him to present himself by 11am on Sunday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Mondal cited "ill-health" for skipping the police summons, issued after an audio clip surfaced where he was purportedly heard abusing and threatening Bolpur IC Liton Halder and his family. "The TMC neta is unwell and couldn't be present," his lawyers said. At least four of them came to the SDPO. BJP intensified its demands for Mondal's arrest, with party workers staging protests at Rampurhat PS on Saturday. The opposition party also filed additional FIRs at multiple police stations, including Sainthia, Rampurhat and Suri. Birbhum police chief Amandeep said on Friday that an FIR had been lodged against Mondal under multiple BNS sections, including non-bailable ones. State leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari criticised the police response, suggesting that the charges were deliberately "minor". "Nothing will happen to Anubrata. He will get bail. Instead, you'll see the IC getting suspended," he said. A source at Bhabani Bhawan hinted that further action would be considered if Mondal failed to comply with Sunday's notice too. "All legal options are open and are being discussed through proper channels," said a senior official. The controversy erupted after the four-minute clip went viral. In the tape, a person could be heard hurling abuses and threats, including of physical harm, to Halder. The person was also heard abusing and threatening the IC's wife and mother. While initially denying the authenticity of the clip, Mondal issued an unconditional apology after the TMC leadership set him a four-hour deadline on Friday, acknowledging that he spoke "in anger". Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "I should not have said those things. I am sorry", Mondal said, but also questioned the circumstances surrounding the leak. He attributed his behaviour to medication and an emotional response to alleged police misconduct against a party worker's son.

TMC leader booked for threatening cop's to rape his mother, wife
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leader Anurbrata Mondal has been booked on the charges of threatening a police officer to rape his mother and wife. After the Trinamool Congress-led state government faced criticism over the purported viral audio in which Mondal was heard threatening the cop, the party issued a statement and asked him to tender a public apology on the matter. 'The party unequivocally disassociates and does not endorse the comments made by Anubrata Mondal against a police officer. We strongly condemn his use of derogatory and unacceptable abusive language. The party hereby instructs him to tender an unconditional apology within the next four hours, failing which show cause proceedings will be initiated,' it said. Soon after that, the Birbhum District Police registered an FIR against Mondal under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Mondal wrote a letter and issued a public apology for his actions. Mondal's excuse was that since he was under constant medication, he flared up after receiving complaints from the public about the said police officer. 'I sincerely apologise for my behaviour. However, at the same time, my question is how could the audio clip of my conversation with the said police officer become viral? How could the BJP leaders access that audio clip?' Mondal questioned.

Anubrata says sorry in 40 mins after party fire over ‘abuse' audio
Kolkata/Bolpur: Birbhum TMC strongman Anubrata Mondal was forced to tender an unconditional apology on Friday after a four-minute audio clip surfaced where the neta was purportedly heard abusing and threatening Bolpur IC Liton Halder and his family. The audio clip was posted by BJP seniors on social media, prompting TMC to give Mondal a four-hour deadline to apologise. A FIR was registered against the TMC neta, he was issued a summons, and four cops tasked with guarding him were withdrawn. Facing the party's wrath, Mondal apologised within 40 minutes in a letter to the IC, and another to TMC state president Subrata Bakshi. He also released an audio tape. BJP netas did not name anyone when they posted the clip. The person was also heard abusing and threatening the IC's wife and mother. Within minutes, TMC reacted sharply. "The party unequivocally dissociates and does not endorse the comments made by Anubrata Mondal against a police officer. We strongly condemn his use of derogatory and unacceptable abusive language. The party hereby instructs him to tender an unconditional apology within the next four hours, failing which show-cause proceedings will be initiated," the party said on X. Mondal wrote in his letter: "Honourable CM Mamata Banerjee , who is also the police minister of Bengal, considers everyone from ordinary police personnel to senior officers as close associates. I cannot think of disrespecting them. I am sorry for the recent incident. I am willing to apologise to the police not just once but a hundred times. The truth is, I take various medications, and if anyone makes an allegation against the police, I lose my temper. I am truly sorry." Interestingly, Mondal misspelt 'dukkhito' (the Bengali for 'sorry') in the letter. Even while apologising, however, he questioned as to how the audio had been leaked. "How did BJP obtain the audio clip of me and the IC? Who provided it? Isn't there a conspiracy?" he wrote in the same letter. By then, however, police had already acted against the Birbhum neta. "An FIR has been filed against Mondal under BNS sections 224 (obstructing govt work and threatening an on-duty officer), 132 (harassing a public servant), 75 (outraging modesty and harassment), and IPC section 351 (threatening)," SP Amandeep told reporters. At least one of the sections (BNS 132) is non-bailable. Mondal is out on bail in cattle smuggling and money laundering cases. Mondal, sources said, considers Halder to be close to zilla parishad president Kajal Sheikh. Mondal had made requests to the SP and the Bengal DGP, seeking the IC's removal. Earlier in the day, Mondal had tried to dismiss the audio clip, saying he had never abused or threatened. He later said he was feeling groggy because of medications and was angry upon learning that a party worker had been brutally assaulted by cops. Bengal leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari wrote on X: "Just listening to this viral phone conversation makes it clear how dangerous anti-social goons are being carefully protected under the loving cover of the state's powerful and unchallengeable CM."
