Singer Chaka Khan says West End musical about her life is the ‘greatest honour'

I'm Every Woman The Chaka Khan Musical will launch at The Peacock Theatre in March 2026, covering the 72-year-old's life story and rise to fame. Speaking about the production, the Queen Of Funk said: 'Many of you know that my life has always influenced my music, but you may not know the full story. 'I've lived a rich, beautiful, and sometimes difficult life, and now those experiences will come alive on stage in I'm Every Woman The Chaka Khan Musical. 'It's the greatest honour to have my journey and work celebrated in this way. 'London holds a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to share this moment with the fans who have sung, danced, and stood by me through it all. 'I've always wanted to inspire joy, truth, and love — and I know this musical will be filled with all of that and more. This is for you.' The play will follow Khan's 1970s beginnings with the funk band Rufus, to her solo success with hits such as I'm Every Woman, Ain't Nobody, and UK number one single I Feel For You, while also looking at her famous friendships with the likes of Prince, Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder. Producer Adrian Grant said: 'I'm excited to be bringing a stage show about the life of Chaka Khan to the West End. 'I grew up listening to hits such as Ain't Nobody and I Feel For You, with her powerhouse vocals and electric videos which have left an undeniable imprint on popular culture. 'My brilliant creative team cannot wait to present that energy on stage, with a bold and empowering new musical celebrating Chaka's legacy and amazing catalogue of songs.' Khan has had four UK top 10 singles and three UK top 40 albums, and will pay tribute to her collaborator Quincy Jones in a performance at the 2025 Montreux Jazz Festival, after receiving the global impact award at the O2 Silver Clefs last year. The production is written by Nia T Hill and directed by Racky Plews, with choreography from Jade Hackett and casting by Debbie O'Brien, with casting to be announced. The show will run from March 5 to March 28 2026, with tickets going on sale at 10am on May 19.

Franschhoek to host Africa's first Montreux Jazz Festival

Mark your calendars for March 2026... Franschhoek is poised to hit a global high note as the first African destination to host the iconic Montreux Jazz Festival. Founded in Switzerland in 1967, the Montreux Jazz Festival has grown into an international celebration of jazz, blues, rock, and soul, becoming one of the most renowned music festivals in the world. It attracts nearly 250,000 music fans to the shores of Lake Geneva each summer. "We are delighted to see this dream come to life," says Mark Goedvolk, Founder of MJF Franschhoek. "Hosting the Festival in Franschhoek offers a unique opportunity to bridge cultural divides and create meaningful connections between emerging South African artists and the world's top international artists and music industry leaders." The festival will also strengthen ties between tourism and culture in the valley. "We are thrilled to have Franschhoek chosen to host this iconic festival," says Ruth McCourt, CEO of Franschhoek Wine Valley. "This marks a monumental milestone not only for the valley but for the entire continent." Plans for the festival's debut edition will be finalized later this year, but music-lovers can look forward to a curated collection of international and local talent. And we do mean local... the festival plans to partner with the Uncorked Music Academy at Franschhoek High School, aligning with the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation's mission to empower young talent. "We are very excited to bring the Montreux Jazz Festival to Franschhoek," says Mathieu Jaton, CEO of the Montreux Jazz Festival. "This new collaboration marks a historic moment... and we are honored to work alongside local partners who share our passion for live music, creativity and hospitality."

Franschhoek set to host the first-ever Montreux Jazz Festival in Africa

Franschhoek is poised to become the first African host of the iconic Montreux Jazz Festival in 2026. The Franschhoek Wine Valley is set to make history as the first African destination of the Montreux Jazz Festival. For almost 60 years, this legendary event has been held in cities around the globe, from Miami, Tokyo, and Rio de Janeiro. Now, Franschhoek proudly joins this prestigious list, marking a monumental moment as the festival's first-ever African venue. Details for this landmark event will be finalised in late 2025, paving the way for its highly anticipated debut in March 2026. Following a visit to South Africa in January, during which the festival planning committee explored and scouted venues in Franschhoek, Montreux Jazz Festival organizers have confirmed the valley as the ideal location for their first festival in Africa in 2026. This announcement will significantly benefit the region's tourism industry by drawing international attention and creating local job opportunities. Since its inception in 1967, the festival has been a cultural cornerstone of the global music industry, held in Montreux, Switzerland, and celebrated for its diverse musical line-up, which spans jazz, blues, pop, and rock.

Daryl Hannah claims Trump administration tried to ‘mess Neil Young up' over American citizenship

Daryl Hannah has claimed that the first Trump administration 'tried every trick in the book' to 'mess' with Neil Young while he was going through the process of becoming an American citizen. Actor and director Hannah, who is the girlfriend and collaborative partner of the veteran rocker, made the revelation as she spoke about her new documentary, Neil Young: Coastal, about his 2023 solo tour. Young, 79, recently expressed his concern that he could be barred from the US upon his return from his European tour – which includes headline performances at Glastonbury and the Montreux Jazz Festival this summer – due to his outspoken views on the US president. 'If I talk about Donald J Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminium blanket,' he wrote on his website, following a rise in the number of people being detained and deported upon entering the country. Young has long been a vocal critic of Trump and once sued him for using his song 'Rockin' in the Free World' during the presidential campaign trail. 'They tried every trick in the book to mess him up, and made him keep coming back to be re-interviewed and re-interviewed,' Hannah told the BBC of the Canadian musician. 'It's ridiculous, [because] he's been living in America and paying taxes here since he was in his twenties.' However, she said she did not think Young would be prevented from entering the country: 'They've been detaining people who have green cards or visas – which is hideous and horrifying – but they have not, so far, been refusing to let American citizens back in the country, so I don't think that's going to happen.' In the same interview, the Splash and Kill Bill star said she would be accompanying Young to Glastonbury and film his performance from the side of the stage. 'He just has an absolute, uncanny commitment to his creative muse,' Hannah said. 'He's not driven by financial interests, he's not driven by self-aggrandisement, he's not driven by anything other than that creative force, and it's pretty incredible to witness.'
