‘Freaky Friday' director reveals he wasn't invited back for sequel: ‘I did raise my hand'

Even the filmmakers got swapped. Mark Waters, who directed the 2003 film 'Freaky Friday' starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, has revealed that he was never even approached to return for this year's sequel. 10 Mark Waters attends the Netflix premiere of 'He's All That' at the NeueHouse in Hollywood, California, on August 25, 2021. 'I did raise my hand and say I'd love to be involved somehow, even in a kind of godfather aspect or executive producer.' 'But I was not extended an invitation,' he added. Advertisement 'I'm very supportive of them making a great new movie,' he told the outlet. 'It would have been nice to be involved, but now that I'm not, I sort of compartmentalize it for myself.' 'I need to devote my energy to keep making new, original things that are going to be hits, and people can remake them in 20 years,' Waters continued. 'So that's what I'm doing now. You can't worry about the projects that you don't do.' 10 Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in 2003's 'Freaky Friday.' ©Buena Vista Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection 10 Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in 'Freakier Friday.' ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection Advertisement The 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' director also revealed that some members of the cast wondered where he was when the sequel began filming. 'It certainly would have been fun, and I heard from quite a few cast members while they were shooting, saying, 'Where the hell are you, Waters?'' he shared. 'I have not forsaken you! I'm sorry.' Picking up 22 years after Anna Coleman (Lohan) and her mother Tess (Curtis) magically swapped bodies in 'Freaky Friday,' 'Freakier Friday' follows Anna and Tess after they swap bodies once again – but this time with Anna's daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons). 10 Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in 'Freaky Friday' (2003). ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection 10 Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprising their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman in 'Freakier Friday' (2025). ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection The cast is rounded out by several returning characters, including Anna's ex-boyfriend Jake (Chad Michael Murray), teacher Mr. Elton (Stephen Tobolowsky) and Anna's little brother Harry (Ryan Malgarini). After the body-swapping sequel's release on Aug. 8, it received mixed reviews – including a particularly 'harsh' write-up from Time magazine. 'No one, as far as we know, actually asked Disney for a sequel to 2003's buoyant, surprisingly unsyrupy generation-gap comedy 'Freaky Friday,'' the outlet wrote. 'SOME people LOVE it. Me being one.'

Brooke Shields celebrates 60th birthday with bikini shoot

Don't miss out on the headlines from Entertainment. Followed categories will be added to My News. Brooke Shields celebrated her 60th birthday in paradise. The Blue Lagoon actress took to Instagram Saturday to share photos of herself rocking a black bikini while lounging on a hammock on the beach. 'Woke up in Paradise … and in a new decade of life,' she captioned the post. 'This is 60! Thank you for all the birthday love.' Shields styled her beach day look with a wide-brimmed hat and choker necklace. Brooke Shields posted images to her Instagram to celebrate her 60th birthday. Picture: Instagram. In honour of the big day, her haircare brand, Commence, also shared 'a non-exhaustive list' of 'propaganda' she refuses to believe as she gets older. 'That 60 means slowing down,' read text on an Instagram Reel of Shields at a photo shoot. 'That change is only for your twenties. That it's too late to learn something new. That my best days are in the rearview. 'That women 'of a certain age' aren't a force to be reckoned with. That I don't deserve products made specifically for me. That not every day can be a good hair day.' Shields previously revealed she's against using Botox on herself. Picture: Getty. Shields got candid about ageing in a November 2023 interview with Glamour magazine, confessing she's afraid of certain cosmetic injectables. 'I'm scared of not looking like myself; the times that I've had Botox, I end up with this Spock eye and I'm like, 'I don't look like myself,'' she said at the time. 'But I'll get Fraxels, and peels, and whatever the newest thing is, and I'll try it. I just don't want to not look like myself.' But Shields has maintained her youthful glow; she stunned as she hit the beach in another bikini in April. At the time, the former model flaunted her figure while lying in the sand in the Bahamas wearing a black-and-white two-piece. The Mother of the Bride star went makeup-free, accessorising with a gold necklace and statement bracelets. This story originally appeared on Page Six and is republished here with permission. Brooke Shields, 59, flashes her black bra then quickly pulls closed her silky blouse during date with husband

Brooke Shields may have endured a small wardrobe malfunction on what was supposed to be a fun date night with her husband. The actress, 59, was likely looking forward to a little one-on-one time with her husband, Chris Henchy, 61 on Sunday night at the celebrity hangout Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, CA, and the white silk blouse she was wearing was more plunging than usual. Shields, who paired the top with high waist denim slacks and black pumps, quickly noticed she was flashing her bra as she exited the restaurant and put her hand on her chest to prevent any looky-loos from seeing too much. There's a very good chance the flashing incident wasn't on her bucket list. The former child star will turn 60 on May 31, and has announced she will be trying new things to mark the milestone for the next 12 months. 'Thus begins the big, year-long 60th birthday celebration,' she wrote on Instagram Friday. 'My goal: doing things I've never done before and have always wanted to do! Most importantly… doing them with friends & people I love. This sounded like the best way to celebrate instead of one big party,' the Mother of the Bride star explained. Shields shared a photo of herself holding a baby lamb from what appeared to be a recent visit to Chatsworth House in England. 'First stop: spending a few days helping bring little lives into the world. Little Lambs - oh how I love you!! Thank you for having me, @chatsworthofficial !' 'Not sure what the next stop on the celebration will be… any suggestions? It could be as simple as going to a botanical garden or on a hike in a park upstate.' Pal Demi Moore wrote, 'I love this,' about the plan. Many suggested the Blue Lagoon star keep working with animals. 'Have you marked the milestone with a gorilla trek yet? If not, consider this your official invite to come hang with some silverbacks in Rwanda. We'd love to show you around!' suggested The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. 'I've always wanted to visit a wolf sanctuary. The plight of the wolf is in grave danger as many still seek to eradicate them. Maybe you could plan to visit a wolf sanctuary,' suggested a fan. Another offered several ideas. 'Visit a nat'l park you haven't been to. volunteer at an animal sanctuary. volunteer at an animal shelter. go to a beach you haven't been to. happy birthday!' The Mother of the Bride actress told her fans enjoying new experiences 'sounded like the best way to celebrate instead of one big party' 'Gotta see Acadia National Park in Maine… Sunrise on Cadillac Mountain… amazing!' proposed another. Shields also marked the 20 year anniversary of the publication of her book, Down Came the Rain in which she shared her experience with postpartum depression. 'The message and awareness surrounding postpartum depression is so important, and it's a conversation we need to continue to have. Grateful to share my story,' she wrote next to a photo of herself holding the 2005 memoir.
