MotoGP bans 2027-spec bike tests until conclusion of 2025 season

The FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme) announced a series of changes to the 2025 MotoGP World Championship regulations earlier this week. The changes, which took effect on April 29, most notably included the introduction of a test day for riders returning from injury and clarified startline procedures sparked by the recent debacle in Austin. In addition to the modified regulations, the FIM also announced an agreement regarding testing of prototype bikes that manufacturers are already developing in anticipation of the 2027 season. A major technical overhaul of MotoGP is coming in 2027, including a shift to 850cc engines, reduced aerodynamics and simplified ride-height devices. Advertisement While some manufacturers have already made significant progress on early prototypes for their 2027 challengers, it was agreed in a meeting on the recent Spanish GP weekend that these bikes cannot be tested on track until the conclusion of the 2025 season. According to the FIM announcement, 'An agreement has been made between the manufacturers that they will not test 2027 specification machines during the 2025 season. This means testing a motorcycle of 2027 specification will only be allowed from 17 November 2025.' For the test, MotoGP manufacturers will provide test riders and a 1000cc bike equipped without ride-height devices and with only a basic aerodynamic package. The test, which will be fully funded by Pirelli, is set to take place at the Aragon circuit on a yet-to-be-determined date, though it will be after the Aragon Grand Prix scheduled for 8 June. Spanish Rider Álex Márquez Claims Victory at Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix

Madrid – SABA: Spanish rider Álex Márquez of the Ducati-Gresini Racing Team clinched the title at the Spanish Grand Prix, the fifth round of the MotoGP World Championship, after winning the main race on Sunday. With this victory, Márquez has taken the lead in the MotoGP World Championship standings, amassing 140 points—just one point ahead of his brother Marc Márquez in second place and 20 points clear of Italian rider Francesco Bagnaia in third. Márquez crossed the finish line ahead of Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha rider and 2021 World Champion), while Bagnaia secured third place on his Ducati. This marks another milestone for Spanish riders in MotoGP, as Marc Márquez had recently won the Qatar Grand Prix less than two weeks ago at the Lusail International Circuit. The intense rivalry between the Márquez brothers and other top contenders promises an exciting season as the championship heads into its next rounds. Eiffage and Acciona to build Madrid's new F1 urban circuit

A consortium comprising Eiffage, through its subsidiary Eiffage Construcción, and Acciona has secured a contract to design and construct Madrid's new urban circuit intended for Formula 1 races. The project is valued at €83.2m ($95.4m), with Eiffage's portion amounting to €33.3m. The scope of work under this contract encompasses the full range of temporary infrastructure services from construction, assembly, and dismantling to the post-event rehabilitation of streets and utilities. Additionally, it involves the development of new roads and facilities dedicated to sporting events. The project, backed by fair organisation IFEMA Madrid, is situated in the northeastern part of the city. The consortium commits to the project's environmental goals by proposing the repurposing of approximately 700,000m³ of soil from excavation works, of which 60% will be used on-site while the remaining 40% will be recycled at other locations in the future. The consortium plans to reduce CO₂ emissions at the site by using hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in construction machinery and applying photocatalytic substances to road surfaces to cut gas emissions. To endorse rainwater infiltration and replenish water tables, it will implement a sustainable urban drainage system. In addition, the project will transplant 583 trees and install 4,259m² of portable acoustic barriers in noise-sensitive areas. Construction activities are scheduled to begin in April 2026 and conclude in time for the Spanish Grand Prix next summer. Eiffage Construcción has experience in sports infrastructure development, resurfacing the Jerez Circuit for the MotoGP World Championship in 2009 and laying the track in Carmona. Recently, Eiffage Construction completed the conversion of the former Courrier Picard headquarters in Amiens, France, into a residential project called 'Recto Verso'.
