FSCA warning: These well-known people cannot help you to invest
The FSCA urges consumers to exercise extreme caution when investing their hard-earned money and to verify that they are dealing with a legitimate and authorised entity or broker. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) is warning consumers to be cautious of deepfake videos featuring well-known individuals promoting specific investments, as well as fraudsters impersonating legitimate brokers and investment firms to scam consumers out of their money. The FSCA warns consumers to watch out for investment platforms claiming to be associated with business mogul Dr Patrice Motsepe, broadcaster Leanne Manas, President Cyril Ramaphosa and his deputy Paul Mashatile. The authority says in a statement that it has learned that the platforms may be providing financial services to the public without authorisation, while it promises unrealistic returns of between R13 000 and R17 000 per day, on an investment of only R4 500. These platforms also use fake images and deepfake videos using Motsepe, Manas, Ramaphosa and Mashatile's faces. In one of the deep fake videos, a digitally altered version of Motsepe promotes investments offered on the platform, while a manipulated video of Mashatile confirms that the platform is authorised and that investors will receive returns. Another video uses a deepfake of Ramaphosa to promote investments and guaranteed returns. The FSCA says consumers must remember that the individuals behind the platforms are not authorised in terms of any financial sector law to provide financial services to the public. When the FSCA tried to contact the individuals behind the platforms, there was no response. ALSO READ: FSCA says watch out for these scammers FSCA also warns about Momentum Metropolitan and Risto Ketola impersonators The FSCA also warns consumers to look out for fraudulent WhatsApp groups where individuals impersonate Momentum Metropolitan Holdings Limited and Risto Ketola. It says consumers must be careful when engaging with a WhatsApp group operating under the names 'Q23 Momentum Official Securities Group' and 'Q923 MOSG Official Securities Group'. These groups falsely claim to be affiliated with Ketola, the group finance director of Momentum Metropolitan Holdings, after receiving reports of a scheme where individuals use WhatsApp to solicit funds from unsuspecting consumers. The FSCA points out that the administrators of these groups fraudulently impersonate Ketola and misuse his name, image and professional credentials to promote what is described as 'structured guidance and risk-managed investment strategies'. The group claims to offer returns exceeding 160% and advertises a so-called 'check-in reward initiative,' promising up to R2 000 per month to individuals who promote the group. According to the FSCA, Momentum Metropolitan confirmed that neither it nor Ketola has any association with the WhatsApp groups. Momentum Metropolitan expressed its concern over the growing number of advertisements on Telegram, Facebook and WhatsApp fraudulently linking its brand and executives to unauthorised investment schemes. ALSO READ: FSCA warns consumers about investments with these unregistered entities FSCA also warns about individuals impersonating Brokstok The FSCA also warns consumers to be careful of individuals impersonating Brokstock SA, an authorised financial services provider (FSP) with FSP number 51404 after it received information that Zibu Masotobe Sibiya with WhatsApp number +2771 768 4632 and her associate Mike Mabuyakhulu with WhatsApp number +2779 429 3027 are impersonating Brokstock SA. The FSCA says Sibiya and Mabuyakhulu are unlawfully acting as representatives using Telegram and WhatsApp groups called Brokstock Beginner/s and an FNB bank account in the name of Brokstockshares and the account number 62871907790, with an email address brokstockshares@ Sibiya and Mabuyakhulu lure consumers into depositing funds into a fraudulent bank account. The FSCA points out that Brokstock SA confirmed that the individuals are in no way associated with Brokstock and that any representations suggesting otherwise are entirely false and misleading. Brokstock SA emphasises that it will never share its banking details on public communication channels, such as Telegram or WhatsApp. The FSCA urges the public to exercise caution regarding scams conducted through messaging services and various social media platforms, as these incidents are on the rise. ALSO READ: FSCA warns against FXnonstop offering 40% returns per week Scammers even impersonate the FSCA The FSCA also warns consumers about people impersonating the FSCA and financial services providers. The impersonators use the FSCA logo, details of its staff and fake FSCA certificates to claim an association with the authority to entice consumers to use their services or make investments. The FSCA impersonators offer members of the public help to claim refunds from investments they made with financial service providers, and also offer help to recoup losses they suffered through trading in investment instruments such as crypto assets. 'The impersonators of the FSCA are not authorised in terms of any financial sector law to provide financial services. The FSCA has no association with those impersonating it.' The impersonators also use the FSP numbers issued to authorised financial service providers to solicit investments from members of the public. In addition to using the FSP numbers, the impersonators also use the details of staff and management of financial service providers to lend legitimacy to their operations. The FSCA emphasises that the impersonators are not authorised in terms of any financial sector law to provide financial services. The financial service providers who were impersonated denied any association with these impersonators: Geronimo 2 Audacity Capital, USA Sarasohn Ximen and Aguilar Navarro Joaquin. Despite its attempts, the FSCA was unable to get hold of any of the impersonators. The FSCA reminds consumers to treat any entity or individual purporting to represent the FSCA or to be a financial service provider on any platform with suspicion and to contact the FSCA immediately. ALSO READ: FSCA fines 2 pension fund bosses R30 million each, debars them for 30 years FSCA says this is how to stay out of trouble with the impersonators The FSCA says to avoid unnecessary risk, consumers must not accept financial advice, assistance, or investment offers from individuals or entities not authorised by the FSCA. Authorised financial services providers must clearly display their authorisation status in their documentation. 'If this is not present, consumers must first investigate further before making any payments. We also urge consumers to exercise caution when considering investment or trading offers on social media platforms or any unsolicited offers,' the FSCA says. The authority recommended that you protect yourself by first verifying: That an entity or individual is authorised by the FSCA to provide financial products and services, including giving recommendations about how to invest The category of advice the person is registered to provide, as there are instances where companies or people are registered to provide basic advice for a low-risk product and then offer advice on far more complex and risky products. The FSP number of the entity or individual offering financial services matches the name of the financial service provider on the FSCA database. The FSCA says you can use one of these methods to confirm the status and FSP number of a service provider or someone who claims to be an authorised service provider:

Another Orlando Pirates player to Kaizer Chiefs?
News coming out of Johannesburg says Kaizer Chiefs are in advanced talks to sign Paseko Mako. The 31-year-old left-back left Orlando Pirates just 24 hours ago. Reports from previous months confirmed that coach Nasreddine Nabi and Amakhosi were set to prioritise the left-back position this winter, with Stellenbosch FC's Fawaaz Basadien the dream target. According to the breaking news, Kaizer Chiefs are moments away from signing Mako on a free deal. Images: @orlandopirates/X Rulani sends honest message to Orlando Pirates boss Yesterday, we discovered that Orlando Pirates' former defender Thabiso Monyane has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs. Today's report has just revealed that Mako may also be wearing gold and black next season. 'SABC Sport can exclusively reveal that former Orlando Pirates defender Paseka Mako could be heading to Naturena as talks with Kaizer Chiefs have progressed to an advanced stage,' Mazola Molefe reported. 'According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, the 31-year-old has entered into talks with their Soweto rivals over a potential move to The Glamour Boys ahead of the upcoming season. Mako, who was born in Zebediela, Limpopo, endured an injury-ravaged season with Orlando Pirates last term. He only made 17 appearances, mainly as a substitute, while the 34-year-old Deon Hotto was a regular starter. The Buccaneers also used the newly promoted Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Yanga Madiba in that left-back role. 'Mako now presents a viable option and will arrive as a free agent, should the finer details be ironed out and all parties involved are satisfied,' Molefe added. Mako, whose football career started at Mamelodi Sundowns' development setup, made his professional debut in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with the defunct Cape Town All Stars, before moving to Chippa United and eventually Orlando Pirates. The Tshwane giants will also participate in next month's FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America. Club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe is hoping to go into that tournament as African champions. 'It will definitely be a bonus to go there as African champions. It's a motivation for us and it's something that we want to do,' Motsepe said. 'We have that opportunity and that privilege to participate in the final this Sunday. Is something that we've longed for in a very long time and something that we have cherished as a football club. Drawn in a challenging group featuring German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund, Brazil's Fluminense, and Ulsan of South Korea, Motsepe says the team is eager to display their renowned free-flowing football on the international stage. 'We are an inspirational football club and I always say this but it's the truth because we have the responsibility to play daring and entertaining football, ' he added. 'We also have a responsibility to give people hope through football. Our motto is ' The Sky is the Limit 'so we are going to go out there and not limit our ability as a football club. Motsepe says Sundowns are going to bolster their squad for next season
In news that is likely to send chills down the spine of all other Betway Premiership teams, Mamelodi Sundowns chair Tlhopie Motsepe says they are going to venture into the market to bolster their squad. The Brazilians' squad is already notably strong and this was proved by the impressive manner in which they won their eighth successive league Premiership and reached the Champions League final this season. Downs drew 1-1 in the first leg of the final against Pyramids at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, leaving the tie delicately poised. This year, Sundowns made big money moves on the transfer market to sign Jayden Adams, Lucas Suárez, Keanu Cupido and Lebo Mothiba and recalled Matias Esquivel from his loan spell with Club Atlético Talleres in Argentina. Cupido and Esquivel have seen little action since they arrived at Chloorkop, while former Bafana Bafana attacker Mothiba is yet to kick a ball as he continues to work on his fitness after a long injury layoff. In the recent past, Downs have recruited their headline signings mainly in South America, but Motsepe did not go into details about where they are going to find new players and which positions are going to receive attention to help coach Miguel Cardoso. Hlompho Kekana is confident Sundowns will be able to get a good result in Cairo. WATCH full interview ➡️➡️➡️ — Mahlatse Mphahlele (@BraMahlatse) May 28, 2025 'We will go into the market to look for the type of players that complement what we are tying to achieve,' he said. 'We have a wonderful sporting director in Flemming Berg, his assistant and our board. We are going to try our best to make sure the Sundowns you see next year is the one that is building for better things to come.' After the Champions League final Sundowns have another international assignment in the expanded, 32-team Fifa Club World Cup in the US in June and July. 'The season is drawing to a close, it is going be a difficult because our preseason is going to be cut short. It is going to be important to find new players and give the coach the preseason he didn't have [arriving in December of the 2024-25 campaign]. 'Last year, the coach came at a time when he didn't have time to pick his players or get to establish his style of football. These are opportunities that coaches get when they have a preseason behind them. 'Taking that into consideration and seeing that we are in the final of the Champions League with the players he found there, it has been an incredible achievement and testament to the character they have.' Mothobi Mvala calls on experienced players to stand up and be counted in Cairo. WATCH full interview ➡️➡️➡️ — Mahlatse Mphahlele (@BraMahlatse) May 28, 2025 A win over Pyramids is important for Sundowns as they chase their second continental title, and Motsepe said it would be good to go to the Club World Cup as African champions. 'It will be a bonus to go there as African champions; it is a motivation and something we want to do. We have that opportunity to participate in the Champions League final on Sunday. 'Playing in the final is something we have longed for and we cherish as a football club. It is something we try to achieve every season and something we will continue to strive for. It is a wonderful opportunity and we have faith in the players and technical team.' Motsepe said Downs remain committed to playing the attractive brand of football the club has become renowned for, including next month in the US where they meet South Korea's Ulsan HD (June 17), Borussia Dortmund (June 21) and Fluminense (June 25) in Group F. 'We have a responsibility to play daring and entertaining football, to give people hope through football. We are going there not to limit our ability as a football club, we are going to show the world African excellence. 'When we got there in 2016, we were happy to be there and share our culture and who we were. We have learnt a lot of lessons and we go there wiser, stronger and bolder.'

Sundowns confident of Champions League final success despite first-leg setback
The pressure will be on Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of their Champions League final against Egypt's Pyramids FC after the Brazilians conceded an away goal in the last minute of their opening leg draw. On Wednesday, 28 May, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso turned 53. There was little time to celebrate, though. Cardoso is busy trying to orchestrate the second African Champions League success in Sundowns' history. The first of two legs ended in a 1-1 draw. This was after Egyptian side Pyramids equalised in injury time in Pretoria on Saturday. The late leveller would have been a frustrating development for Masandawana, especially because it handed Pyramids a marginal psychological edge through the away goals rule. 'We need mental strength because everything is still open. Pyramids know that too,' Cardoso said. 'The better team will win the return leg, and we will play the same way we play every match. We must show the greatest desire.' Cairo final woes History is also not on Sundowns' side ahead of Sunday's second leg in Cairo. Participating in their third Champions League final, Sundowns have never scored in an away leg of a Champions League final in the Egyptian capital. Against Al Ahly in 2001, they were hammered 3-0 in Cairo on the back of a 1-1 draw at home. When they won their maiden African title in 2016, they went to Cairo to face Zamalek with a healthy 3-0 cushion. They then went down 1-0 in the Egyptian capital. The hope is that their latest quest in Cairo will deliver a different outcome. It has to if they want to reclaim their title as Africa's best. 'The attitude of champions is seen when things don't go well. Because when things are just flowers and everything is beautiful, it's very easy to be a champion,' said Cardoso. 'Champions get up when things are [tough] and they show themselves in difficult situations. We have a match of 90 minutes to play. So, we have to take the responsibility of playing to score [at least] one goal and go from there,' the Portuguese tactician said. 'We have all the capacity and strength to go there and fight with them. I knew that it would be a difficult match, [but] it's an opportunity to show our character,' Cardoso said. Globetrotters Speaking at an event where Sundowns announced Carling Black Label as a partner for their foray into the expanded Fifa Club World Cup next month, club chairperson Tlhopie Motsepe said the Brazilians would love nothing more than to step on to the global stage as African champions. 'We want to go to the Club World Cup as African champions. We started the season wanting to be African champions,' Motsepe said. 'If we rewound to the start of the season and you told me we'd be in our current position, having drawn 1-1 and you have it all to play for in a second leg away from home, I would have been so excited… The opportunity that we have is an exciting one,' Motsepe said. Sundowns will represent Africa at the World Cup alongside Al Ahly (Egypt), Wydad Casablanca of Morocco and Tunisia's Espérance. The Brazilians are in Group F of the expanded 32-team World Cup, which will be played in the US from 15 June to 13 July. They will be compete with Germany's Borussia Dortmund, plus Brazilian side Fluminense and Ulsan of South Korea. Heading into the tough global quest with Champions League gold would serve as a major boost for what will be the minimum target of reaching the knockout stage. A top-two finish in their group guarantees this. But first, they must knock down the resilient Pyramids to become the most successful South African side in the Champions League. They are level with Orlando Pirates on one win apiece. With Pyramids being established as recently as 2008 and participating in just their second Champions League campaign, the pressure will be on serial South African champions Sundowns to see off the Egyptians, away from home. This would present Cardoso with the perfect birthday gift. DM
