Another Georgia basketball guard enters transfer portal

Georgia basketball is losing another guard to the transfer portal. Guard De'Shayne Montgomery entered the transfer portal, according to Dawgs247. Montgomery spent one season at Georgia after starting his college career with the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers. At Mount St. Mary's, he averaged 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.7 blocks, and 1.7 steals through 32 games. He also made 41.2% of his three-point attempts. Advertisement When Georgia landed him off the transfer portal, the Bulldogs were looking for a key scorer that can effectively defend guards and shoot the three ball well. Unfortunately, Montgomery was usurped by Blue Cain and Silas Demary for the starting role, and with Dakota Leffew and Tyrin Lawrence taking most of the bench moments, Montgomery failed to etch out a significant role in Georgia. In 15.7 minutes per game, Montgomery averaged 6.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.2 blocks. His three-point shooting went down to just 25.0%. After the his first three games of the season, where he averaged 16 points per game, Montgomery only reached double-digit points once. He was academically ineligible for several games at UGA. Georgia has already lost guard Silas Demary and forward RJ Godfrey to the transfer portal. Guards Tyrin Lawrence and Dakota Leffew are out of eligibility, so Georgia is expected to lose almost all of its backcourt production. Georgia will look to either replace them with incoming transfers and/or recruits. It remains to be seen who will step up, but Georgia will consider their options in making a team that will look to claim their second straight March Madness berth.
