'She didn't understand...' Abhishek Bachchan recalls first meeting with Aishwarya Rai, credits THIS actor for introducing them

'She didn't understand...' Abhishek Bachchan recalls first meeting with Aishwarya Rai, credits THIS actor for playing cupid Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have been married for over 17 years now. They first met in Switzerland, where Abhishek was working as a production assistant for his father Amitabh Bachchan's production house Mrityudata, while Aishwarya was filming for Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya , with actor Bobby Deol. What was Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai's first meetup like? While, recently interacting with Nayandeep Rakshit on his YouTube channel, Abhishek reminisced his first encounter with Aishwarya Rai. 'I was on a recce for my father's film Mrityudata, with Mr Mehul Kumar in Switzerland. I was sent by my mother because I had grown up there, I had studied in boarding school there, so they felt I might know the locales better. I was very friendly with Bobby (Deol), he was shooting for Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, and the day we were on the recce, we came onto his set to say hello, and he was shooting with Aishwarya. It was the first time I saw her in person. I mean, we had already seen her during Miss World and all that.' He said. Bobby Deol casually invited Abhishek for dinner, that unknowingly lay the foundation for something meaningful for the rest of his life. 'That evening Bobby said, 'Why don't you come to my hotel and we'll have dinner together?' And I knew Mickey Contractor very well, he was doing her makeup and had done my mother's makeup as well. He had seen me as a kid. So we were all sitting together, and that's when I first met her.' Abhishek added. Why Aishwarya Rai didn't understand anything he said? Abhishek recalled that during the dinner Aishwarya didn't understand a word he said, because of his heavy accent. He humorously recalled, 'She tells me later that she didn't understand a word I said because I had a very heavy accent apparently.' Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai tied the knot on April 20, 2007. Four years after their wedding, they welcomed their daughter Aaradhya in November 2011. In the same interview, he credited Aishwarya for selflessly parenting Aaradhya and said, 'I have to give the credit for everything entirely to her mother. I have the liberty and I go out to make my movies, but Aishwarya does the heavy lifting with Aaradhya. She is amazing. Selfless. I find it amazing. Just mothers in general, I don't think fathers have the ability to be as giving, maybe we are wired differently.' 'We (fathers) are more about going out, we have to do something, we have to work, we are goal-oriented. And to be able to say, 'No, this is my baby and this is my top priority for me,' I think it's amazing and it's a gift. That's why, possibly, our go-to people are mothers. So for Aaradhya, yes, absolutely, the entire credit goes to Aishwarya.' Abhishek further added.

‘Aishwarya Rai didn't understand a word I said': Abhishek Bachchan recalls first meeting in Switzerland, says he had a ‘heavy accent'

There's a popular misconception that Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai first met on the sets of Dhai Akshar Prem Ke in the early 2000s. However, their first meeting happened nearly half a decade earlier, long before Abhishek became an actor. It was around 1995 when the two crossed paths for the first time, not on a film set in India, but in Switzerland. Abhishek was working as a production assistant for his father Amitabh Bachchan's production Mrityudata, and it was in the Swiss Alps that he first met his future-wife. In a conversation with Nayandeep Rakshit on his YouTube channel, Abhishek recalled that first encounter vividly and shared, 'I was on a recce for my father's film Mrityudata, with Mr Mehul Kumar in Switzerland. I mean, we had already seen her during Miss World and all that.' 'That evening Bobby said, 'Why don't you come to my hotel and we'll have dinner together?' And I knew Mickey Contractor very well, he was doing her makeup and had done my mother's makeup as well. He had seen me as a kid. So we were all sitting together, and that's when I first met her.' He recalled that during this dinner, Aishwarya did not understand anything that he said, because of his accent. 'She tells me later that she didn't understand a word I said because I had a very heavy accent apparently,' he recalled with a laugh. Though their paths first crossed in Switzerland, their love story didn't begin until years later. Abhishek proposed to Aishwarya while they were filming for Mani Ratnam's Guru. He proposed to her using the same prop ring that she wore in the film. The couple got engaged in January 2007, and in April, they tied the knot.

This 28 year old film of Amitabh Bachchan was his biggest flop, even Jaya Bachchan walked out at the interval, film is.., lead actress was... The megastar of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan, has dominated Bollywood for decades with his famous roles and historic blockbusters. From the 'angry young man' of the 70s to his powerful characters in modern films, Bachchan has won the admiration and affection of generations. Although the majority of his films have been successful, not every film in his career was a hit. The film that we are talking about is none other than Mrityudaata. Released 28 years ago, this film stands to be the biggest career failure in Amitabh Bachchan's remarkable career. Produced by his own company ABCL and directed by Mehul Kumar, hopes were high. The supporting cast featured some strong performers like Karishma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Pran, and Dimple Kapadia opposite Amitabh, but no amount of anticipation could prepare audiences for the disaster Mrityudaata would become. What's surprising is that his wife, Jaya Bachchan, understood the fate of this movie early on. During the preview screening, she left at the interval. That was enough for Amitabh to know something was wrong. When he asked her why she left, Jaya replied that she had found the film boring, and it had not engaged her from the start. Much self-honesty as those predictions were, they were sadly true. The audience's lack of engagement and Dimple and Amitabh's on-screen chemistry did not create any lasting impression. The film failed to recover its budget as a commercial endeavor at the box office. Amitabh later took responsibility for the flop, admitting the film did not live up to expectations and he was partly to blame for finding it not good enough. After scoring a hit after a hit in the 70s and 80s, he was facing a series of flops, which started to erode his persona. Mrityudata, rather than being a comeback film, was just one more film on the wrong side of the ledger. Failure, however, is a reminder that legends also have lows and is, as always, an opportunity for courage, recognition of it, and rising again.
