Former chief minister and Haveri MP Basavaraj Bommai hoisted the national flag at the premises of Kanakadas Shikshana Samiti group of colleges and honoured ex-serviceman and social worker Parashuram Divanad. Management members Ravi Dandin, Shantanna Kadival, principal Sandeep Budihal were among those present at the programme. At the NWKRTC central office, managing director Priyanga M unfurled the tricolour and distributed cash prizes to the staff. Chief labour officer P Y Nayak, chief traffic manager Vivekananda Vishwadnya and others were present. At KLE Technological University, Hubballi, pro-chancellor Dr Ashok Shettar received the Guard of Honour from the university's NCC Cadets and hoisted the national flag. Vice-chancellor Prakash Tewari and Registrar B S Anami were also present. Hubballi city celebrated the 79th Independence Day at Nehru Stadium. The programme was organised by the Hubballi town taluka Independence Day committee. Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Gaste, the tahsildar of Hubballi City, said: "The country got its independence due to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters. Today, we are living free due to the hard work of the freedom fighters. Everyone should work hard for the development of the country. " MLA Mahesh Tenginakai exuded confidence that the country will emerge Viksit Bharat in 2047. Hubballi rural tahsildar J B Majjagi claimed govt employees had been told to collaborate with the stakeholders to implement various welfare schemes piloted by the govt to offer public service. Speaking after the flag-hoisting at the Mini Vidhana Soudha, Majjagi emphasised that all taluka-level officials must address public grievances and focus on development work. He highlighted Hubballi and its surrounding areas' significant contributions to the freedom struggle. The general manager of South Western Railway (SWR) Mukul Saran Mathur hoisted the nationakl flag at Rail Soudha, Hubballi. He said SWR has played a pivotal role in driving socio-economic growth in the region. SSK Sri Tulaja Bhavani Education Society trustee Bhaskar Jituri praised the Armed Forces for their role in rooting out terrorism from the country. He hoisted the flag at SSK PU and Degree College in Chanakya Puri, Hubballi. In Vijayapura, district minister MB Patil hoisted the national flag at the district stadium and launched registration for the Vrukshathon Heritage Run, 2025, to be held in December. Opposition chief whip in the Legislative Council, N Ravikumar, mayor M S Karadi, skill development corporation chairman Kantha Nayak, DC K Anand, zilla parishad CEO Rishi Anand, SP Laxman Nimbargi were among those present. In Gadag, district minister HK Patil hoisted the national flag and felicitated achievers from different sectors at K H Patil district stadium. MLC SV Sankanur, DC CN Sreedhara, zilla parishad CEO Bharat S, SP Rohan Jagadish, and others were present. Vice-chancellor Prof Suresh V Nadagoud unfurled the national flag at Mahatma Gandhi Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University and recalled the sacrifices of thousands of freedom fighters. Retired Navy officer Karoshi Mahadevappa Ramappa and others were present. In Bagalkot, district minister RB Timmapur unfurled the tricolour and recalled the supreme sacrifice of Halagali Bedaru in the struggle against the British. "As many as 500 Beda community members fought against the British under the leadership of Jadaganna and Balanna," he added. General Manager of South Western Railway Mukul Saran Mathur said that the railway zone had achieved record performance in safety, speed, revenue, and passenger amenities and had ensured extraordinary growth in infrastructure development and connectivity. Hoisting the national flag at Rail Soudha in Hubballi on Friday, Mr. Mathur said that the highest priority had been given to safety in train operations, resulting in one of the best safety records in Indian Railways with zero consequential accidents since January 2025. At the same time, SWR had electrified 89% of the rail network, he said. Mr. Mathur said that the railway zone had achieved historic freight loading of 29.55 million tonnes (Jan–July 2025), generating ₹3,056.47 crore revenue totalling ₹5,468 crore originating revenue. He said that the key safety measures taken by the railway zone included construction of 16 road-over-bridges, 27 road-under-bridges, 10 foot-over-bridges, elimination of 12 level crossings, and installation of 54 km safety fencing, advanced signalling, hot axle detectors, and fire safety systems in all AC coaches. 'Since January 2025, 53 km of rail lines under the zone have been commissioned, and 94 track km of electrification has been added, raising the electrified route to 3,303 route km, covering 89% of the network. Operational efficiency has been boosted with 89% punctuality, speed upgrades to 130 kmph between Bengaluru–Jolarpettai and ₹1,015 crore invested in track renewals', he said. He said that under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, works were under way at 53 stations, with modern amenities, lifts, escalators, and smart navigation guides being introduced. Security had been strengthened with 102 stations under CCTV surveillance, 94 narcotics cases detected, and over 466 persons rescued from trafficking, he said. Sustainability milestones included 43 new electric locomotives, 147 out of 202 diesel-to-electric conversions and expansion of solar power capacity towards a 20 MW target, he said adding that achievements reflected the collective dedication of SWR's workforce and its commitment to operational excellence, passenger comfort and nation-building. Additional General Manager K.S. Jain, the principal heads of various departments, and senior officials attended the celebrations. Earlier, various contingents took part in the march-past and presented a guard of honour. Later, students of railway school presented cultural programmes.

GM of South Western Railway inspects Birur-Talaguppa section in Karnataka

Mukul Saran Mathur, the General Manager (GM) of South Western Railway, on Friday conducted an inspection of the Birur-Talaguppa section in Karnataka and evaluated safety parameters. Accompanied by other senior officers, the GM reviewed the ongoing infrastructure works, station development projects, and passenger amenities. As part of the inspection, he visited Shivamogga Town railway station and reviewed its redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He interacted with track maintainers and assured them of improving their working conditions. The GM also inspected the coaching depot at Koteganguru. Infrastructure facilities at the depot are currently being upgraded to meet growing demands. Later, the GM stopped at Arasalu railway station, and visited the Malgudi Days Museum. The museum is a homage to writer R.K. Narayan, based on whose writing, actor Shankar Nag directed the television series Malgudi Days. The GM also reviewed station development works at Talaguppa. He was accompanied by Mudit Mittal, DRM of Mysuru Division, Pradeep Puri, Chief Engineer (Construction); and other officers of Mysuru Division.

SWR General Manager inspects Subrahmanya Road Station

South Western Railway's General Manager Mukul Saran Mathur, on Monday, inspected Subrahmanya Road Railway Station, which is undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, at Nettana in Dakshina Kannada district. During the inspection, Mr. Mathur reviewed the progress of the ongoing station redevelopment works and emphasised the importance of maintaining high-quality standards while ensuring the timely completion of all works. The General Manager also took stock of the electrification works under way in the section. He inspected key infrastructure components, including curves, bridges and track parameters, to assess and ensure operational safety and efficiency. A special focus was laid on the tunnel works in the Subrahmanya Road-Sakleshpur ghat section, which are crucial for smooth and safe train operations in this monsoon season. Mr. Mathur was accompanied by Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal, Chief Project Manager of Gati Shakti, Anand Bharati, and other Senior Branch officials from Mysuru Division.

Window Trail Inspection of Hubballi–Kulem Section held

General Manager of South Western Railway Mukul Saran Mathur, conducted a detailed Window Trail Inspection of the Hubballi–Kulem section today with a special focus on monsoon preparedness and safety precautions on Wednesday. The inspection covered key areas between Hubballi and Alnavar, where various operational and safety parameters were thoroughly reviewed with special emphasis on readiness for the upcoming monsoon including assessment of bridge and track maintenance works currently in progress, a release said. The General Manager, accompanied by a team from RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organisation), conducted a comprehensive inspection at Caranzol Station. The condition of signal points was checked and a detailed discussion on the provision of check rails at key locations to enhance safety standards was held. This apart, the site of the recent derailment at Caranzol was meticulously examined to analyse the underlying causes for the mishap and possible remedies were discussed. The General manager examined the signal installations at Dudhsagar Station to verify their efficiency and safety compliance. Emphasising the need for maintaining highest safety standards Mr. Mathur gave several suggestions on enhancing operational reliability. The team also inspected recently renewed track and sleepers laid using the Track Relaying Train (TRT) Machine. During the inspection he was accompanied by Director of Track from RDSO B.P. Singh, DRM of Hubballi Division Bela Meena, principal heads of various departments and senior officials of Hubballi Division.
