Graphic designer who made provocative posters for PFI before ban, granted bail
The Bombay High Court has granted bail to Maula Nabisab Mulla, a Nashik-based graphic designer who had spent over two years in custody for allegedly designing posters for the Popular Front of India (PFI) — at a time when the organisation was not yet banned by the Government of India.A bench comprising Justices A S Gadkari and Rajesh S Patil noted that the case against Mulla pertained solely to graphic designing work, including banners and social media content, and that the PFI was not a proscribed organisation at the time of the alleged to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Nashik, a PFI office was inaugurated on June 14, 2022, in Malegaon, where a meeting allegedly took place discussing various incidents of atrocities against the Muslim community, including mob lynching. The prosecution claimed that during the meeting, attendees called for Muslim unity and discussed waging war against the country by 'any means necessary.' One of the accused was alleged to have issued a fatwa inciting violence against those who spoke against was arrested for his alleged role in creating posters and graphic content that the ATS said were of an 'objectionable nature,' inciting hatred between for Mulla, advocates N N Gawankar and Advait Tamhankar argued that their client's role was limited to that of a professional graphic designer, and he had no active involvement in the ideological or organisational activities of pointed out that the FIR was lodged on September 22, 2022, while the PFI was officially banned only on September 27, 2022. 'Therefore, at the time of registration of the FIR, the organisation was not banned and no offence under anti-terror laws was made out,' the defence lawyers also noted that five other accused in the same case had already been granted bail by the Supreme Court and Bombay High Court, with roles similar or greater than Mulla' the prosecution opposed the bail plea, the Court observed that the trial had not yet commenced and there were over 190 witnesses to be examined, indicating a prolonged legal process bench concluded that Mulla's role — as per the ATS charges — was comparable to that of others who had already been released on bail.'The role attributed to the applicant is similar to the other co-accused, who have already been granted bail by the Hon'ble Supreme Court. The FIR was registered when the organisation was not yet banned. Hence, on parity and considering the long incarceration, the applicant deserves to be released on bail,' the bench was granted bail subject to conditions imposed by the Court. The order brings attention to the delays in trial and the legal complexities surrounding retrospective application of bans on organisations.- EndsTrending Reel

K'taka: State transport driver suspended for stopping bus during duty hours to perform namaz
Bengaluru: The Congress-led government in Karnataka on Thursday suspended a state road transport corporation bus driver for stopping the vehicle on the side of the road to perform namaz during duty hours. The suspension order was issued by the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), Haveri Division, through the Haveri Divisional Controller. A.R. Mulla, a driver attached to the Hangal Unit, has been placed under suspension for violating the code of conduct and discipline as per the guidelines of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). The order stated that the inquiry into the incident found Mulla to be in violation of service rules, and recommended his suspension, noting that his continued service could interfere with the ongoing investigation. The suspension notice reads: 'You (Mulla) were deputed on April 28 to operate an RTC bus service between Hangal and Vishalgarh. While returning from Vishalgarh to Hangal on April 29, at around 5.30 p.m., it was found that you had parked the bus on the left side of the road on the outskirts of Hubballi city and performed namaz on the passenger seat.' 'You have committed dereliction of duty while on public service and in the presence of passengers. Your action has also brought negative publicity to the organisation, as the incident has been widely discussed on social and mainstream media,' the order further noted. The suspension takes immediate effect. During the suspension period, Mulla will receive half of his salary, as per KSRTC rules. The incident involving an RTC bus driver Mulla allegedly stopping the bus mid-journey to perform namaz was reported from Haveri district of Karnataka on Wednesday. A video of the incident has gone viral, with people questioning the RTC authorities over the act. One of the passengers recorded a video of the incident and posted it on social media, where it has since gone viral. Hindu activists had demanded action against the RTC staffer for performing namaz after stopping the bus midway during duty hours.

Over 50 tourists from Goa stuck in J&K after terror attack: Officials
More than 50 persons from Goa who were on a vacation to Jammu and Kashmir were stranded at hotels in Srinagar after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam and efforts were on to bring them back, officials said on Wednesday. Terrorists struck at a prime tourist location in Pahalgam in south Kashmir on Tuesday, killing at least 26 persons, mostly tourists, and injuring several others, according to officials. The terrorists opened fire at tourists who were milling around eateries, taking pony rides or just picnicking at the Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam, touted as 'Mini Switzerland' for its serene beauty. After the incident, all visitors were transported from Pahalgam and other places to hotels in Srinagar, a Goa government official said. More than 50 persons from Goa were currently in Jammu and Kashmir, the official said, adding that "all are safe". Efforts were on to bring them back, the official said. Tour operators from Goa were also working out plans to bring all tourists back from Jammu and Kashmir. One of the tour operators said a few of the tourists were scheduled to visit Baisaran point after food where the attack happened. "A group of Goans was in Pahalgam market when the incident happened, while another group was in Sonamarg. All were called back to a hotel in Srinagar were they are currently safe," said Ahraz Mulla, co-founder of tour company Goa Adventure Club in Panaji. Mulla said their firm had planned a trip for a group of 34 persons to Pahalgam and 12 to Jammu. "Those in Jammu are stranded due to a landslide. They also cannot fly out from there as flights are running full capacity," he said. A group that went to Pahalgam reached there on April 17 and was supposed to return on April 24. "Efforts are on to get them back immediately," Mulla said. Daxal Naik, owner of Travel Bug Tours and Travels near Panaji, said a group of 26 persons whose visit to Jammu and Kashmir was facilitated by his company, was still stranded there. "All of them have reached hotels in Srinagar. We are trying to bring them back as soon as possible," he said. Naik said a group of tourists from Goa was having lunch at Pahalgam market when the attack happened. "The tourists were scheduled to visit Baisaran point after having food where the attack happened," he added. The group had left from Goa on April 21 and was supposed to return on April 26, he said. The unavailability of seats in flights from Jammu and Kashmir has forced the tour operators to keep tourists in hotels there, Naik claimed, adding that efforts were on to bring them back by the earlier flight possible.
