My ambition is to see AP as zero poverty State by 2029: Naidu
Nellore: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said that his ambition is transform Andhra Pradesh as 'Zero Poverty' State by 2029. He virtually participated in the distribution of house site pattas to the beneficiaries at Bhagath Singh Colony of 54th division of Nellore Municipal Corporation on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, CM Naidu has said that as part of the initiative to eradicate poverty, the government has formally proposed to launch P-4 concept on August 19. He said the government has been spending Rs 34,000 crore only on social security pensions to all the pensioners across the State. Free bus travel for women will be implemented from August 15, he informed. Lauding Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana for his initiative of facilitating house site pattas to the poor in Bhagath Singh Colony, Chandrababu recalled that when Narayana brought the issue to his notice, he immediately approved it in the interest of poor. Chief Minister Naidu has virtually interacted with two beneficiaries - SK Sahibha and M Mastanamma and enquired whether they are getting welfare schemes properly. Later, Minister P Narayana and Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakara Reddy have distributed house site pattas to the beneficiaries. Minister Narayana said that at present pattas are being given to 633 beneficiaries against 1,430 and the remaining will be given in a phase wise manner. State Waqf Board Chairman Sheik Abdul Aziz, district Collector O Anand, Joint Collector K Karthik, NMC Commissioner YO Nandan and others were present.

Odisha govt mandates use of Odia on signboards at shops
The Odisha government on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) made it mandatory for all shops and commercial establishments in urban areas to prominently display signboards in the Odia language. The direction was issued by Housing & Urban Development Department Principal Secretary Usha Padhee for businesses under the jurisdiction of municipal corporations, municipalities, and notified area councils. It said that the order aligns with the state government's commitment to uphold the Odia language in public spaces and make signage more accessible to citizens, especially those unfamiliar with other languages or scripts. The directive said that all shops and commercial establishments across the urban areas must ensure that the Odia script occupies at least 60% of the total area of their signboards. "This will help reinforce the visibility and importance of the state's official language," it said. "To encourage adherence, compliant establishments will be eligible for a five per cent discount on the renewal fee of their trade license," the order stated. Urban local bodies were instructed to verify compliance during trade license renewals and inspections, which must be completed by September 30 this year. Non-compliant establishments will receive a formal notice and will be given 55 days to rectify the signage, it said. A penalty of ₹500 per day will be imposed on continued non-compliance beyond the grace period. Besides, all municipal corporations, municipalities, and notified area councils were directed to conduct awareness drives to inform shopkeepers about the new norms and extend necessary support for implementation. All ULBs are required to ensure strict compliance with these instructions and submit a comprehensive compliance report within 60 days to the office of the director of Municipal Administration, it said.

Andhra Pradesh cabinet to take up draft bill to repeal NALA Act
VIJAYAWADA: The State Cabinet, in its meeting scheduled for Wednesday, will take up a draft bill to repeal the Non-Agricultural Lands Assessment (NALA) Act, which allows the conversion of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes, according to Minister for Revenue Anagani Satya Prasad. The announcement was made following a Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting on revenue issues on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana, Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, and Minority Welfare Minister NMD Farooq. Anagani recalled that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had previously announced the repeal of the NALA Act during the third Collectors' Conference. He emphasised that the draft bill was meticulously prepared under the Chief Minister's directives and will be presented for Cabinet approval. The repeal aims to address concerns surrounding misuse of agricultural land conversions.

AP identifies 30 urban projects to drive revenue growth
Vijayawada: In a transformative move to catalyse urban development across the state, the municipal administration department has intensified its focus on implementing revenue-generating urban infrastructure projects. The projects will be taken up through financing mechanisms such as Public-Private Partnership (PPP), Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), and Viability Gap Funding (VGF). The govt identified a portfolio of 30 revenue-generating projects across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Andhra Pradesh. The municipal administration department aims to position cities as economic engines driving inclusive growth, sustainability, and future-ready infrastructure. Ahead of readying the blueprint, the Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar held a brainstorming session with senior officials, including Director of Municipal Administration Sampath Kumar. They set a focus on enhancing urban livability and sustainability across various critical sectors. "Development of city roads in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) for enhanced traffic management, road safety, and seamless urban transport is also a key project to be taken up on priority," said Suresh Kumar. Similarly, a series of innovative and tourism-friendly urban development projects under the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) are also being launched, including the East Coast Habitat Centre at Madhurawada – a landmark mixed-use urban node integrating residential, commercial, and institutional facilities, Vizag experience and virtual reality arena with hotel–India's first immersive digital tourism experience zone. Promoting A.P. as investment destination remains mainstay of Naidu's Singapore tour
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Ministers Nara Lokesh (IT & HRD), P. Narayana (Municipal Administration) and T.G. Bharat (Industries & Commerce) wrapped up their four-day visit to Singapore with a series of high-level meetings on Wednesday. In all, the delegation from Andhra Pradesh held 26 meetings with a host of dignitaries, including Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, former PM and current Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Ministers Tan See Leng and K. Shanmugam. During the deliberations, which were aimed at attracting investments and enhancing Andhra Pradesh's brand image, Mr. Naidu sought cooperation from the Singapore Government for the development of the State, with due emphasis on helping the A.P. government in transforming Amaravati into a vibrant capital city. Mr. Naidu and his team studied prestigious projects in Singapore with the intent of implementing similar models in Andhra Pradesh. Tan See Leng, Singapore Minister-in-Charge of Energy and Science & Technology in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, posted a message on the social media platform X saying that his government would continue to support the development of A.P. and Amaravati through technical cooperation in urban development by working together with the partners like World Bank. Mr. Naidu succeeded in restoring the relations between A.P. and Singapore that came under strain between 2019 and 2024, and managed to regain the trust of the Singapore government. The Chief Minister expressed commitment to rectifying the 'past mistakes', said an official release. He invited the Singapore government representatives to attend the Global Investors' Summit, scheduled to be held in Visakhapatnam on November 14 and 15. Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, Shilpak Ambule, extended support to the A.P. delegation during the tour. Mr. Naidu held discussions with the representatives of major companies such as Surbana Jurong, Sembcorp, SIA Engineering, AI Singapore, Keppel Corporation, GIC, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, CapitaLand Investment, EverSendai Engineering, TomSec, Wilmar, TVS Motors, Mandai Wildlife, and Adani Ports. He explained the investment opportunities in A.P. and the slew of policies being implemented by the State government. Mr. Naidu urged the companies to consider Andhra Pradesh as their preferred investment destination in India, while assuring them of incentives. He participated in roundtable discussions on urban development, IT, Artificial Intelligence, fintech, maritime, and port infrastructure. The delegation also visited the Bidadari Estate (housing project), Jurong Petrochemical Island, Tuas Port, and the Singapore Sports School, where they inquired into the best and modern practices followed in those projects. A major highlight of the trip was the Telugu Diaspora Meet held in Singapore, in which Telugu people from across Southeast Asia took part.
