DOJ charges man arrested with firearm at Nashville 'No Kings' protest
A Tennessee man is facing federal charges after allegedly brandishing a firearm at protesters earlier this month, with prosecutors expressing concerns about his "desire to commit an act of mass violence," according to court documents. Elijah Millar, 19, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was charged Friday with unlawful possession of a firearm, the Justice Department announced. He faces up to 15 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000 if convicted. According to prosecutors, Millar, dressed in all-black clothing and wearing a mask, confronted demonstrators at a "No Kings" protest near Nashville's Bicentennial Mall on June 14. Witnesses reported that Millar spat at protesters, yelled at them, and brandished a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol before being apprehended by Metropolitan Nashville Police Department officers, the DOJ said. Just three days after being released on bond, Millar was arrested again when Murfreesboro Police Department officers discovered another loaded 9mm firearm in his waistband, authorities said. Court documents said Millar was previously subject to a 2023 emergency conservatorship order in Rutherford County, Tennessee, which prohibited him from possessing firearms after finding he was "at risk of substantial harm to his health, safety, and welfare." A subsequent order in September 2024 designated him as a "disabled person needing care" and further restricted his access to firearms. "The right to peaceably protest government action is guaranteed by the First Amendment and cannot be infringed upon by armed individuals whose actions put people in danger," said Acting United States Attorney Robert E. McGuire. On Sunday, prosecutors urged the court to keep Millar in custody, citing social media posts and online activity that suggested "a desire to commit an act of mass violence." The incident comes amid heightened tensions at "No Kings" protests nationwide. In a separate incident on the same day in Utah, a protest turned deadly when a safety volunteer accidentally shot and killed a demonstrator while responding to another armed individual who allegedly approached the crowd with a rifle. The case is being investigated by the FBI's Nashville Field Office, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, and the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Murfreesboro police investigating multiple car break-ins, seek public's help identifying suspects
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Murfreesboro Police Department has opened investigations into several Memorial Day car break-ins. Authorities said they're looking for a man and a woman who broke into at least seven cars at the Fountains at Gateway, Manson Pike Trailhead and the pickleball courts on Golf Lane on Monday afternoon. Hours later, they were seen on a surveillance camera leaving a store. 'These two individuals — they stole everything: cash, credit cards, debit cards, iPad, iPhones,' Larry Flowers, public information officer for the Murfreesboro Police Department, told News 2. Investigators said that the duo went on a shopping spree and were later spotted leaving a store with a video gaming system. However, authorities said this is just one example area car break-ins. In another case, Flowers said that residents called the Murfreesboro Police Department after seeing two men break into cars. Ultimately, two 21-year-olds were arrested on misdemeanor charges. 'We have park officers that patrol our parks [and] our greenway,' Flowers said. 'Of course, they can't be everywhere at the same time, so of course we just ask that people park smart. Remove your valuables; don't leave any valuables in plain sight. Remove your key and be sure your doors are locked.' READ MORE | Latest headlines from Murfreesboro and Rutherford County Flowers warned against approaching someone actively breaking into a car. 'Some of them will have weapons on them, so we just advise you not to approach,' Flowers added. 'Call the police and we'll take it from there.' The two suspects accused of breaking into at least seven vehicles across Murfreesboro were seen driving a silver Hyundai SUV with a Tennessee license plate reading BFB0638. The tag is registered to a different vehicle. If you see that vehicle, or if you have any information that could help Murfreesboro police identify the suspects, you're asked to call Detective Ferree at 629-201-5628. Man arrested for burglary, car theft in Murfreesboro after fleeing deputies in Cannon County
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man is in custody in Murfreesboro after allegedly breaking into a home, stealing a car, fleeing from police, and leading another agency on a high-speed chase before causing a crash on Friday. According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, 21-year-old Tyler Hudson was taken into custody around noon on Friday. He faces charges of aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, retaliation for past actions for targeting a witness who testified against him in a 2023 shooting case, and a parole violation from the Tennessee Department of Correction. READ MORE | Latest headlines from Murfreesboro and Rutherford County The preliminary investigation from MPD revealed Hudson and another masked man broke into an apartment on Saint Andrews Drive and stole a gaming system and a purse containing car keys on Thursday, May 22. The car was reported stolen shortly before 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 23. Real Time Crime Center crime data analysts used LPR technology and the car's tracking system to pinpoint its location. A Murfreesboro police officer then spotted the stolen car on Veterans Parkway early Friday morning. The vehicle sped away, but officers chose not to pursue due to the safety of other drivers. The car was eventually tracked to Cannon County, and deputies with the Cannon County Sheriff's Department pursued the vehicle back into Rutherford County at speeds over 100 mph. Hudson managed to avoid a spike strip laid by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office but then crashed the vehicle at the intersection of John Bragg Highway and South Rutherford Boulevard, causing minor damage, according to Murfreesboro officials. ⏩ Hudson finally stopped at South Rutherford Boulevard and Louise Street, where officers immediately took him into custody. A female passenger in the vehicle jumped out of the stolen car and ran, but MPD officers quickly apprehended her. She was later identified as Myka Marable, 18, of Dickson. She was charged with evading arrest. Hudson remains in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $147,500 bond on his current charges, but is being held without bond for the parole violation. Additional charges may be pending from other agencies, according to MPD. He currently has a hearing set for July 14 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Michigan man found dead in abandoned Hummer in Tennessee tow yard
The remains of a man found inside a vehicle in Tennessee have been identified as a Michigan man. Dale Hilsabeck, 63, of Lansing, was inside his 2007 Hummer H3, which had been towed from a local Walmart to the E.A. Towing lot in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Detectives are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of his death, according to a report from Murfreesboro police. The vehicle, which was locked at the time, was towed on April 5 after it was reported abandoned at the store's parking lot. Then on May 1, police were notified of human remains that had just been discovered in the vehicle after a tow lien was filed and a lock-out tool was used to open the Hummer. Hilsabeck's body was on a sleeping mat, laid flat on the back seat. "The Hummer's windows were covered with black-out material, making it difficult to see inside. The back seat, where the body was found, was laid flat and could not be seen from looking through the front window," the police report said. "E.A. Towing is not suspected of any wrongdoings. Both the towing company and Walmart are fully cooperating with the investigation." Detectives with the Murfreesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division Violent Crimes Unit have since identified the man and are continuing to work on the case, which was initially reported as a "suspicious death."
