Basketball Fans Celebrating Caitlin Clark For Incredible Gesture
Basketball Fans Celebrating Caitlin Clark For Incredible Gesture originally appeared on The Spun. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark proved Friday that you don't need to be on the court to make an impact. Clark has been sidelined since July 15 due to a right groin strain. The Fever announced this week that there's no timetable for her return. They'll take a patient approach to this process, especially since they don't want to jeopardize the former No. 1 pick's long-term health. On Friday afternoon, the two-time WNBA All-Star took time out of her schedule to support IPS Northwest Middle School. Students received backpacks filled with school supplies and books courtesy of the Caitlin Clark Foundation. Clark's foundation wants to "uplift and improve the lives of youth and their communities through education, nutrition, and sports." We'd say she's accomplishing that goal. After Clark wrapped up her visit to IPS Northwest Middle School, fans praised her for being a true role model. "As an upcoming first year teacher this is just another reason why I love her. My students will know who she is," one fan commented. "My girl CC is amazing both on and off the court!!!!! Luv her so much," a second fan said. "Good Job Caitlin," another fan wrote. "Soo much respect for her. She is an amazing person," an Instagram user said. Earlier this year, the Caitlin Clark Foundation teamed up with Musco Lighting to provide new basketball courts at four middle schools in Des Moines, Iowa. "The Caitlin Clark Foundation is thrilled to be a partner in delivering these sport systems to the Des Moines schools and the greater community," a previous statement read. "Providing courts for local youth helps them find opportunities to play and connect with others. Sport activities provided by these courts help develop connections, foster teamwork, and improve communication. These are essential skills that complement the education journey and will have an impact beyond the court experience." Kudos to Clark for truly making an impact on the next Fans Celebrating Caitlin Clark For Incredible Gesture first appeared on The Spun on Jul 26, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 26, 2025, where it first appeared.

School board to take up multiple improvement projects
OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa Community School District Board of Education is expected to address several improvement projects at various buildings in the district, as well as technology renewals during Monday's meeting at Career Campus. One of the bigger-ticket improvement items includes awarding a contract to Bi-State Contracting at the cost of $196,270 for renovations to the wrestling room, backstage dressing rooms, two classrooms and the teachers' lounge as part of the high school's comprehensive renovation project. The board will also take up a bid with Musco Lighting for $65,000 for lighting at the Fourth Street entrance parking lot at Schafer Stadium, as well as a bid for future at Eisenhower Elementary School for just over $43,000. The school board is also expected to approve contract renewals with Powerschool and ParentSquare communication tools. Also during the meeting, the board has a recommendation to appoint a candidate to serve the remainder of Jeremy Weller's term. Weller resigned from the board last month after taking the role as the district's security and safety coordinator; his seat will be filled until November, as it is one of three seats that will be on the ballot. The Musco Mini-Pitch System™ modular sports solution is designed to support soccer, basketball, and futsal, a faster-paced variant of soccer. With built-in goals and added hoops, integrated fencing, lighting, benches, custom surfacing, and ADA-accessible gates, the structures will help bring youth in our community together for recreation. 'Providing every student at DMPS with greater access to activities and athletics, along with the first-rate facilities they deserve, is an important part of our strategic plan to reimagine education in Des Moines,' said Dr. Ian Roberts, superintendent of DMPS. 'To have an internationally recognized business like Musco Lighting team up with a world class athlete like Caitlin Clark in support of DMPS means a great deal in helping us realize our goal of creating more opportunities for more students.' 'As an Iowa-based company, this project is especially meaningful to us,' said Jeff Rogers, CEO of Musco Lighting. 'These community courts will fulfill the Caitlin Clark Foundation's sports pillar, and help increase access to recreation to provide a space for kids to develop life skills with their friends and family. ' In addition to Weeks, Musco and the Caitlin Clark Foundation are developing new courts at Callanan, Hiatt and McCombs middle schools. When completed in time for next school year, all ten DMPS middle schools will have a mini-pitch for students. 'We are thrilled to open the first of our four Community Courts in partnership with the fantastic teams at Des Moines Public Schools and Musco Lighting,' said Mary Coffin, President of Caitlin Clark Foundation. 'These courts provide youth in our communities with quality space to be active and participate in sports which develop important life-long skills to chase their dreams.'The Caitlin Clark Foundation and Musco call their relationship a perfect match. The two organizations are located in Iowa and are both committed to equitable access to recreation for youth. Both have a passion for sports, whether it is a game played at the local park and recreation field, a high school gymnasium, a college arena, or a professional venue. Both understand that sports build teamwork, resiliency, and healthy habits. According to the U.S. Soccer Foundation, about 6.5 million kids live within one-half mile of a mini-pitch, and each pitch can reach an average of 10,000 kids. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
