All-Time Record in 108-Year History: KSDL Achieves ₹186 Crore Turnover in May

Bengaluru: Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL), a state-owned enterprise, has achieved a historic milestone by registering a monthly turnover of ₹186 crore in May—its highest ever in the company's 108-year history. The achievement was announced by Minister for Large and Medium Industries MB Patil on Tuesday. Sharing the details, the Minister said the sales target for May was ₹151.50 crore. However, the company surpassed it by ₹35 crore, achieving 125% of the target and recording a 15% growth. Of the total turnover, ₹1.81 crore came from exports. He added that the company has set an ambitious goal of increasing its annual export turnover to ₹150 crore. All 45 products manufactured by KSDL, including the iconic Mysore Sandal Soap, saw strong sales through its branches in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, and New Delhi, as well as through direct marketing channels in Bengaluru. Products such as soaps, shower gels, and incense sticks witnessed especially high demand. This success, Patil explained, is the result of enhanced product quality, improved branding, and strategic market expansion. Among regional contributors, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana topped the list, accounting for ₹85 crore in sales, while Karnataka and other states contributed ₹100 crore. The previous highest monthly turnover was ₹178 crore, recorded in September 2024—now surpassed by May's performance. Typically, KSDL's average monthly turnover ranges between ₹135 crore and ₹140 crore, making May's figures an exceptional ₹41 crore above the usual. KSDL Chairman CS Nadagouda noted that over the past two years, the company has improved operational efficiency without any major investment in new equipment. He also informed that KSDL is preparing to launch a new range of perfumes in the near future.

Did Deepika Padukone find a supporter in Tamannaah Bhatia amid row over Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit?

Amidst the controversy surrounding Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Spirit' due to alleged unprofessional demands, Tamannaah Bhatia subtly showed her support. She liked an Instagram reel addressing issues like gender pay gaps and misogyny, echoing Padukone's past stance on financial independence. Vanga reacted to rumors about 'Spirit,' hinting at Padukone's involvement in leaks. Tamannaah Bhatia has subtly shown her support for Deepika Padukone amid the controversy surrounding Sandeep Reddy Vanga 's Spirit. In a quiet yet telling move, the actor liked an Instagram reel highlighting issues women often face — including gender pay gaps, excessive work hours, unprofessional behavior, and misogyny. Tamannaah recently liked a reel on Instagram that highlights the kind of propaganda women are no longer willing to tolerate. The video is a throwback to when Deepika Padukone firmly shut down a reporter who questioned whether Ranveer Singh had funded her production venture Chhapaak. Throwback to Chhapaak Press Conference For context, the video is from a 2020 press conference for Chhapaak, Deepika's debut production venture. During the event, a reporter claimed that her husband, Ranveer Singh, had invested in the film. Visibly amused, Deepika responded sharply, 'Excuse me, yeh mere khud ke paise hain. Kisne bola yeh? (Who said this to you? This is my money). Excuse me, it is my own money.' The reel comes with the text, 'Propaganda she is not falling for: Disrespect, men, sexism, gender pay gap, working overtime, unprofessionalism, misogyny, and double standards'. Controversy Over Work Demands and Reactions from Vanga The timing is notable, as Deepika is currently facing accusations of unprofessionalism, sparking a wider debate on actors advocating for standard working hours. Tamannaah's like on a reel highlighting women's rights issues — including unfair work expectations and misogyny — appears to be a quiet yet pointed show of support for Deepika's stance. Several reports have attributed Padukone's exit from Spirit to what were described as 'unprofessional' demands. According to Bollywood Hungama, sources claim that the actor insisted on a six-hour workday and requested revisions to her contract. One of the key points raised by her team was that if the shoot exceeded 100 days, she should be compensated additionally for each extra day. Sandeep Reddy Vanga also weighed in on the controversy by addressing rumours about Spirit on social media. After Pinkvilla published a report revealing plot details and speculations around the film, the Animal director took to X, hinting that the leak may have originated from Deepika. He also reacted strongly to claims suggesting that Triptii Dimri would be "pushing boundaries" with her intimate scenes in the film. Tamannaah's Busy Slate and Recent Brand Endorsement Meanwhile, Tamannaah has been appointed brand ambassador for Mysore Sandal Soap under a Rs 6.2 crore, two-year deal with the Karnataka government—a move that sparked criticism for not choosing a Kannada actor. Minister MB Patil defended the choice. She was last seen in Odela 2, a supernatural thriller where she played Shiva Shakthi, a sadhvi who arrives in the village of Odela to battle a dark force threatening the balance of nature. Where was BJP when Virupakshappa was looting Karnataka soaps firm, asks Patil

Bengaluru: The govt Monday strongly defended the move to appoint actress Tamannaah Bhatia as the brand ambassador of Mysore Sandal Soap, calling it a strategic business decision aimed at expanding the state-run brand's national footprint. In a strong rebuttal to criticism from the opposition and pro-Kannada organisations over the move, industries minister MB Patil revealed that the aim was to position Mysore Sandal Soap as a national brand. "Mysore Sandal no longer wants to be limited to Karnataka but wants to make its mark in the national market," Patil said in a statement released on social media. "For this, a face was needed who has a strong hold on social media and who can broaden the reach of the brand. Tamannaah Bhatia has 2.8 crore followers on Instagram, which makes her an influential social media personality." He revealed that several high-profile names were considered for the role. "Deepika Padukone's name was discussed, but her remuneration was out of budget. Rashmika Mandanna was also approached, but she had already signed another project. Apart from this, names like Kiara Advani and Pooja Hegde were also discussed, but Tamannaah finally was chosen," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Lashing out at BJP for its "sudden concern" over KSDL's legacy, Patil said, "With the same equipment and workforce, we enhanced production capacity, and the company is now turning a profit. BJP functionaries, who were indifferent when KSDL was incurring losses, are now issuing grand statements about protecting the state's interests. The same members, who now portray themselves as protectors of Karnataka's entrepreneurial heritage, remained tight-lipped when Madal Virupakshappa was sent to jail on charges of corruption in KSDL. Did BJP state president BY Vijayendra have a role in those irregularities?" He went on to say: "In the wake of actress Tamannaah Bhatia being appointed as KSDL's brand ambassador, BJP functionaries are making loud statements. But where were these functionaries when large-scale scams occurred under the chairmanship of Madal Virupakshappa during the tenure of the BJP govt?" Patil said the decision to appoint Tamannaah was made purely on commercial grounds. "An expert committee reviewed several factors before making the decision. Other celebrities were considered, but they were under contract with competing brands," he said. He said some of those who initially opposed the move later acknowledged the govt's reasoning. "They later contacted me and expressed their satisfaction with measures being taken to expand KSDL's reach. They admitted that they were not fully aware of the facts initially," he said. Patil said KSDL has added 23 new products to its portfolio and plans to introduce dishwashing items and perfumes. Mysore Sales International Ltd (MSIL) is also being overhauled. "We have introduced digitisation measures aimed at increasing MSIL's annual transactions to Rs 10,000 crore by 2030. Additionally, MSIL's stationery division has been revived, including the relaunch of 'Lekhak' notebooks," he said.
