Joe Jonas Reflects on Infamous ‘South Park' Episode: ‘I Was the Only Brother That Loved It'
Joe Jonas has taken a look back at South Park's famous spotlight of the Jonas Brothers, admitting that he views it as a personal 'claim to fame.' Joe's comments appear in the new episode of Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals (via Entertainment Weekly), where he explained to host Josh Scherer that his opinions were not shared by his brothers at the time. 'Our skin was not as thick back then, and I thought it was hilarious, because I watched South Park, and I was like, 'This is so funny, I know what they're doing, they make fun of everyone!' 'To be made fun of by a comic is usually a sign that they give a s–t, and they care, and it's funny,' he added. 'They really went for us.' Joe, along with brothers Kevin and Nick, were spotlighted as part of The Ring, the premiere episode of South Park's 13th season in March 2009. The episode, which was inspired by the release of Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience just weeks earlier, sees the fictionalized trio convincing their fans to wear purity rings at the behest of Disney mascot Mickey Mouse. However, Jonas agreed that he was able to see the humor in the South Park parody, noting that the band weren't the specific focus, but rather it was 'Boss Mickey' that was in the sights of the creators. 'I mean, what an honor to get my ass kicked by Mickey,' Jonas added. 'I think it's one of my favorite episodes. And later on, now, we just laugh. We love that. I think it's so great. Definitely a claim to fame for me.' The recent comments from Joe align with Nick's own from 2016, in which he addressed the episode in a Reddit 'Ask Me Anything' session. 'When it first came out I didn't think it was funny to be honest, but probably because I was actually living all of that in real time and so it just made it harder to come and live your life as a young person and have all that going on,' he explained. 'But years later and once the purity rings were no longer around, it was very funny to me and I've actually watched the episode a few times.' Joe himself reflected on the episode just months later in his own AMA session, stating he was 'so pumped' when it first aired, but conceded that 'Nick was really kind of not into watching it.' 'I thought it was the funniest thing at the time and it's kind of a compliment because obviously if you go to a comedy show and they pick you out and make fun of you, you can't heckle back, you gotta just take it and enjoy it,' he explained. 'And for me I've always been a fan and I knew that was kind of a wow we made it moment, and also they were kind of attacking Disney more than me, so I didn't really feel threatened. 'Now I watch it back and laugh and Mickey kicked my ass so I won the episode by being beat up by Mickey Mouse.' Joe's comments also come just days after the release of his second studio album, Music for People Who Believe in Love, which will be followed in August by the Jonas Brothers' seventh album, Greetings from Your Hometown. Victoria Justice has spoken out about the long-term impact of a viral meme that stemmed from an old interview clip involving her Victorious castmates and Ariana Grande. The comment, made when Justice was a teenager, became a running joke online and fuelled years of speculation about behind-the-scenes tensions. The meme originated from a 2017 clip in which the cast discussed who sang most off-camera. After Liz Gillies and Daniella Monet praised Grande's vocal habits, Justice added, 'I think we all sing.' The remark quickly spread on social media and was widely interpreted as a sign of rivalry, despite Justice repeatedly denying any conflict. Now, in 2025, Justice has revealed how deeply the online backlash affected her. Speaking on Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals, she described receiving death threats and feeling publicly hated. 'There was a time for so long on the internet where I felt like people hated me,' she said. 'I got so much hate, dude. I got death threats.' I think we've ALL seen that famous Victoria Justice meme that went viral in 2017. The video in question features then-teenage Victoria being interviewed outdoors with her fellow Victorious cast members, including Ariana Grande, Liz Gillies, and Daniella Monet. When the group were asked which cast member sings the most outside of filming, and largely agreed that it was Ariana, Victoria — who played leading character Tori Vega on the hit Nickelodeon series — interjected and said, 'I think we ALL sing.' The clip seemingly sparked a load of tension between Ariana and Victoria, with the pair appearing to shade each other over the years. However, Victoria shut down the long-running feud rumors during a 2023 interview. Fast forward to today, and Victoria has reflected on the viral moment once again during a new appearance on Mythical Kitchen's Last Meals. While reacting to online praise, Victoria noted that it was 'very nice' to see people being kind to her because for so long, she'd dealt with a lot of hate. 'There was a time for so long on the internet where I felt like people hated me,' she said. 'It can really be a ruthless place. And mob mentality is such a real thing.' When asked what she thought prompted the 'hate train,' Victoria mentioned the viral meme. Explaining that she was only '16 or 17' when the video was filmed, Victoria recalled feeling pretty confused by all the immense hate. 'First of all, it's factual. We did all sing, OK? What do you want from me?! Speaking the facts,' she said. 'And then it's like I got all this hate, SO much hate,' she said. 'I'm like, 'What did I do? What did I do?' The 32-year-old actress had the starring role in the musical series 'Victorious', but it was her co-star Ariana Grande who went onto an incredibly successful pop career after the Nickelodeon sitcom ended, and when an old interview of Victoria insisting that she and her castmates "all sing" went viral, she "got so much hate" at a time she was just trying to live her own life. Speaking on the YouTube series 'Mythical Kitchen', she said: "There was a time for so long on the Internet where I felt like people hated me. "There was that whole meme thing from when I was 16 or 17. First of all, it was factual, we did all sing! What do you want from me? I am speaking the facts! "I don't even know how many years later it was when that [went viral] and I got so much hate. I was just trying to work, live. I don't know. It was wild. I got so much hate, and death threats. I felt so bad for my mom, she was freaking out." Nowadays, the former 'Zoey 101' star doesn't mind it at all because she feels as if she is "in on the joke" but insisted that there was a time that she felt "hated" by those online. "I'm always like 'Oh, whatever!' People are gonna say what they're gonna say. It took on a life of its own and became a thing. And now it's funny, I don't care I'm in on the joke. I even say it myself, I don't care, whatever. "But it was definitely a thing where it was like 'the internet hates Victoria Justice right now'." Victoria will next be seen in the upcoming comedy crime film 'California King', but explained that the "pressure" she felt as a child star to carry a brand has never really left her. She said: "I've loved it. It's so much fun. A part of that kind of sticks with you, growing up, knowing that you're carrying a huge brand on your back. Knowing that you are being viewed as a role model to a lot of young people and being on the cover of teen magazines and whatnot, and that sort of thing, having that sort of pressure and wanting to live up those standards an carry all that well never leaves you. Sometimes I curse and I'm like 'Is that okay...?' "Not really though, I feel like it's been a natural progression as well. I ended the show when I was 20, and so I was very much an adult at that point and ready to move on and do adult things."
