NY man alleges vision loss after taking Ozempic: Details

The Brief A 48-year-old man from Suffolk County blames Ozempic for partial vision loss in both eyes. He, along with over 30 others who are suffering from the same side effect, are suing Ozempic's manufacturer. The manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, states they believe "the benefit-risk profile of semaglutide remains unchanged." LONG ISLAND - Michael, a 48-year-old from Suffolk County, is suing Ozempic's manufacturer for partial loss of vision. What we know Michael, who opted out of sharing his surname, says that the loss of sight began after his endocrinologist recommended he switch from Metformin to Ozempic to manage his type 2 diabetes. Michael told FOX 5 NY's Jodi Goldberg that he lost 10 pounds, but also some vision in both eyes. "From the bottom right side of my eye… if I close the left eye, faces get blurry, I can't read my cell phone." He claims he had 20/20 vision before taking Ozempic. Michael was diagnosed with NAION (Non-arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy), which is essentially a stroke of the eye – it presents as an acute but painless loss of vision in one eye. No treatment for NAION currently exists. One of the most recognized risk factors for NAION is diabetes. However, two recent studies – one from the JAMA Network and the other out of Denmark – suggest there could be a link between the condition and taking semaglutide, which is the active ingredient in Ozempic. Jason Goldstein of Parker Waichman LLP, a personal injury, mass tort and environmental law firm, has filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit against Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Ozempic and Wegovy, a similar medication. Goldstein is representing more than 30 clients from 10 states suffering from the same side effect, including Michael. "This lawsuit is about holding Novo Nordisk responsible for not warning doctors and their patients this condition could develop," Goldstein said. Dig deeper Over the past decade, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled over 14,000 drugs; rare side effects can be missed during clinical trials and may not be discovered until later on. Goldberg spoke to Dr. Chetna Bakshi about how common reactions to medications like Ozempic could be. Bakshi's take is that more research is necessary. "These medications come out, people take them, and it's not until 10 or 15 years later that we find other complications that weren't apparent in the initial clinical trials." The other side A spokesperson for Novo Nordisk gave FOX 5 this statement: "Patient safety is a top priority for Novo Nordisk, and we take all reports about adverse events from use of our medicines very seriously. After a thorough evaluation of studies from the University of Southern Denmark and Novo Nordisk's internal safety assessment, Novo Nordisk is of the opinion that the benefit-risk profile of semaglutide remains unchanged." Goldstein's response: "It was a drug you were taking, that there were other options on the market, and no one warned you this could happen." The Source This article includes reporting from FOX 5 NY's Jodi Goldberg, as well as two medical studies from the JAMA Network and a Danish-Norwegian cohort.

Coronation Street 'rules out' major return after tragic death

Coronation Street appears to have ruled out a major return after Craig Tinker's tragic death last week. The police officer was brutally attacked with a bat by Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton), and died in hospital from his injuries. While dealing with his own grief, Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment) was left with the unenviable task of informing Beth Tinker of her son's death. Beth left Coronation Street last year after getting involved in dodgy dealings at the factory. After being caught out by DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), she had no choice but to leave her life in Weatherfield behind. Her exit came after actress Lisa George made the decision to leave the show to pursue other projects after a life-changing diagnosis of NAION – non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy. Fans had previously wondered if Beth would return to the cobbles for Craig's funeral – though tonight's episode seemed to confirm that that wouldn't be happening. More Trending As some of the locals gathered in the Rovers to raise a glass to Craig, Kirk confirmed to Craig's friends that Beth wanted to hold his funeral where she was living in Norfolk. With countless friends wanting to be there for Craig's send off, Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) suggested hiring coaches to take everyone, though Kirk revealed that Beth wanted the funeral to just be family. Instead, he and Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) came up with the idea to hold a memorial service and wake for Craig in Weatherfield, so his friends and neighbours could pay their respects. Corrie's Lisa George left 'petrified' after having surgery without anaesthetic

Coronation Street star Lisa George is unrecognisable from her days as Beth Tinker as she has lost weight, changed her hairstyle and undergone surgery Coronation Street icon Lisa George has candidly opened up about going under the knife to change her appearance. The 54-year-old star is best known for playing Beth Tinker in the long-running ITV soap from 2011 to 2024. Away from Corrie, she has also made appearances on other much-loved shows including Emmerdale and Casualty - and was even a contestant on Dancing on Ice in 2020 where she was paired with Tom Naylor and made it to fifth place. Away from the TV screen, however, Lisa admits she has struggled with her confidence. ‌ Lisa explained that she became self-conscious about her appearance after her star power rose after she joined the cast of Coronation Street. She even stopped smiling in photographs as she battled low self-esteem. ‌ Lisa struggled with the appearance of her eyes, which she felt were accentuated by the heavy makeup she was caked in to play Beth on the ITV soap. The actress was particularly distracted by the way the makeup made her eyelids look like they were "sagging." She told the Daily Mail:"They'd put all this eyeshadow on my eyes and it sort of sat in all the wrinkles and it just looked like it has been dragged across my eyelid and I hated the way it looked. I was just so unhappy but I didn't have the confidence to do anything about it. "No one ever said anything to me, there were no comments, it was more about me being critical of myself. It was just really bothering me. Every time I was putting my make-up on, there were my eyes. I didn't ever like smiling in photographs because of the way my eyes looked." Lisa shared photographs of herself around a Blepharoplasty surgery that she underwent, taking a year to decide to go through with the procedure while she balanced the pros and the risks. The soap star essentially had excess skin "burned" off her eyelids via the procedure, and also had a brow lift. The operations were performed in January and a year after Lisa was diagnosed with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) a genetic eye condition which causes a drop in blood flow and oxygen to the optic never which can cause vision loss. ‌ Discussing the day of her surgery, Lisa explained that doctors told her they would have to perform the operation without general anaesthesia because she has diabetes. She recounted to the publication: "I was absolutely petrified. I just assumed they'd give me a general anaesthetic and I'd wake up and it would be all over." Lisa explained that due to her diabetes and concerns over her sugar levels, she could only be given a local anaesthetic. This was not something she could have expected. She recalled thinking 'what am I doing?' throughout the procedure. Despite her concerns, Lisa praised the medical staff, revealing she didn't feel a thing throughout the procedure, and the team also had music playing while she had the operation to ease her nerves. ‌ As she continued her chat, Lisa explained she had turned down some work in order to undergo her surgery and recover from it - but she hopes to be back on TV soon. She added that she has changed her hair and lost weight since leaving the ITV soap and hopes to land a role on a show like Rivals, which streams via Disney+. Since undergoing surgery, Lisa has certainly been feeling more confident and has been showing off her new look online. Taking to Instagram recently, she shared two snaps of herself posing in a white dress. Sharing the images on her main feed, she added a caption stating: "Thank you all so much for the love recently, means the world" along with a white heart emojis. She added hashtags writing: #newme #feelingthelove.

Major character 'set for return after brutal Coronation Street death'

Beth Sutherland (Lisa George) is set to 'return' to Coronation Street – after a fashion – as the soap airs the violent death of one of its residents. Beth left Weatherfield last year after being blackmailed by local police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts). Annoyed at being cut out of her own counterfeit clothes selling deal, Beth had demanded he let her back in, or else she'd share the details of all his dodgy behaviour to his police bosses. Kit responded by getting her son Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) drunk, to the point where he admitted he'd helped cover up a hit-and-run committed by his ex, Faye Windass (Ellie Leach). He then used this information to force Beth off the cobbles – telling her he'd end her career if she didn't go for good. But, with Craig's time in Weatherfield (not to mention this mortal coil) seemingly numbered, Beth will return long enough to hear about her son's death… if only over the phone. As the week begins, Craig excitedly arrives for work, ready to shadow Kit as part of his CID placement. However, his glee soon diminishes when Kit ignores him all day, leaving him despondent and dejected. When he complains about the situation to DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), she tells him that he needs to prove Kit wrong. As he's called to investigate a local disturbance, Craig senses his chance to prove himself. However, fate has other plans, and Craig finds himself on the receiving end of a brutal beating. As an ambulance arrives on the scene, paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) leaps into action, providing vital first aid for Craig. With Craig fighting for his life, Lisa arrives, and is left shocked at the severity of his injuries. As Asha loads him into the back of an ambulance, Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) explains how she came to find him. Later, in intensive care, Lisa learns that Craig has swelling on the brain. As he regains consciousness, he tells Asha he knows what happened to him. But, as he's questioned by Jess Heywood (Donnaleigh Bailey), Craig's health takes a sudden and dramatic turn for the worst. Soon afterwards, Lisa takes a call from Jess at the hospital. Meanwhile, back on the Street, Craig's friends attempt to comprehend the horrors of the day. And, as shockwaves resound in the wake of a tragedy, Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment) calls Beth to tell her what's happened to Craig. Star Lisa announced news of her departure from Weatherfield last year, telling 'I've been on Corrie a long time but you know what? It's flown. It's really difficult to comprehend how many years I've been here, because it hasn't computed at all. 'You get so engrossed in this world and it is timeless. It feels like you've only been here a year or two years or something. When you think about people doing 25 years or over 50 years you can easily see how that can happen.' The actress left the soap to pursue other roles, revealing how she feared her rare eye condition NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy) – might one day leave her blind. 'What happens if I do go blind? I still want to explore as an actress and do lots of other things,' said the actress, who is partially blind in one eye. She continued: 'It was the impetus for me to see what else is out there, as I don't want to stop any of those opportunities coming to me.' Meanwhile, in scenes which aired August 2024, both Craig and Kirk attempted to stop Beth from leaving. More Trending With Craig's pleas that she stick around falling on deaf ears, Kirk rushed to her side in a last-ditch attempt to beg that she stay. Unfortunately, neither man in her life was successful in changing her mind, and Beth departed for Norfolk, seemingly for good. Ozempic blindness to Ozempic mouth: Beware of these shocking side effects of the weight loss drug

Amid the growing epidemic of obesity, Ozempic and other weight loss drugs are proving to be game-changers in the fight against excess weight. Not just fitness, they can also improve longevity by reducing heart disease risk, protecting kidneys, and lowering the risk of certain obesity-related cancers. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While Ozempic can seemingly turn back the clock by helping you look and feel younger, some of its unexpected side effects could do just the opposite. Here are a few you need to watch out for: 1. Ozempic blindness Ozempic could potentially make you blind. An elderly man in Maryland, United States who took Ozempic for managing type 2 diabetes became legally blind after being diagnosed with NAION , a rare eye condition linked to Ozempic use. Sudden and irreversible vision loss linked to the weight loss drug can be life-altering, a stark warning against its indiscriminate use. A new study published in JAMA Ophthalmology showed how people on GLP-1 drugs suffered from vision issues, including nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), as well as two other potentially blinding eye conditions. 2. Ozempic mouth Ozempic can help you shed a significant amount of weight which can resolve many health woes. However the rapid fat loss could lead to loosening and sagging of skin and cause some aesthetic side effects. One of them is Ozempic mouth , which could give your lower face a wrinkly and hollowed appearance which extends from the corners of the mouth down towards the chin, leading to premature aging. 3. Ozempic personality Ozempic's adverse effects aren't just restricted to cosmetic changes, but also a reduced joy of life in certain cases. Many users on the GLP-1 drug report low moods, anxiety, depression, lack of interest in activities that one previously enjoyed. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now A few have also experienced decreased libido or less interest in sexual activity. This may happen due to semaglutide's effect on the brain's reward centre. Many get a temporary high after eating food of their choice. However, Ozempic could make these reward centres less active. There isn't sufficient evidence around this effect and more studies are required. 4. Ozempic butt It is natural for the skin to wrinkle, sag, and lose its elasticity post excessive weight loss. Just like face, Ozempic could also impact the appearance of your butt. Ozempic butt is more likely to affect older people considering the proteins, collagen and elastin, which promotes elasticity, can reduce as we age. However, these changes may not be experienced by everyone on weight loss drugs. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that skin reactions were reported in fewer than 10% of patients who received Ozempic. Inside Ozempic: Does the drug really help in weight loss and what are its possible side effects?
