San Antonio Spurs rookie Stephon Castle on Friday was unanimously named the Most Valuable Player of the 2025 NBA Rising Stars Game after winning the championship in San Francisco, California. Castle produced 12 points, three rebounds and two assists to lead Team C to a 25-14 win over Team G League to claim the title for Hall of Fame coach Chris Mullin. The team won on a 3-pointer by Keyonte George, which was set up on a cross-court pass from Castle. Team C trailed 12-8 early but went on a timely run to down the team of G Leaguers coached by former nine-year veteran and champion Jeremy Lin. They finished the game on a 17-2 spurt, with Castle accounting for six points alone during that span. Suns' Ryan Dunn named as replacement player in Rising Stars Game
Phoenix Suns rookie Ryan Dunn was named as a replacement player in the Rising Stars Game at NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco, California, the league announced on Friday. Dunn is averaging 7.2 points and 3.4 rebounds on 45% shooting from the field in 41 games with the Suns, including 24 starts. He has scored in double figures 12 times, including a career-high 18 points and 11 rebounds on Jan. 16 in a win over the Washington Wizards. The 28th pick wasn't among the 10 rookies selected on Tuesday to compete in the annual event on Feb. 14. He was selected to replace Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain, who is out for the season with a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee. Rookie Ryan Dunn of the Phoenix Suns and second-year NBA players Anthony Black of the Orlando Magic, Toumani Camara of the Portland Trail Blazers and Ausar Thompson of the Detroit Pistons have been named replacements for the 2025 Castrol Rising Stars. — NBA Communications (@NBAPR) January 31, 2025 Dunn is emerging as a key contributor for coach Mike Budenholzer, who has used him extensively in the starting lineup this season. He has injected energy and effort into their first five and is defending at a high level, ranking sixth in the league in defended field-goal percentage (40.8). The 22-year-old has also shown some ability to space the floor. He wasn't known as a shooter in college, converting 23.5% from beyond the arc in two years, but the former Virginia guard is hitting just a shade under 32% on 3.5 attempts per game this season, which has been a welcomed addition. Dunn said Wednesday he was a bit upset when he wasn't initially selected to the Rising Stars Game and vowed to use the snub as motivation to improve. He will now be able to showcase himself on a national stage alongside the other top young players in the NBA.
