NCP members' involvement in crimes will be discussed at anniversary event, says Sunil Tatkare
Pune: The dissolution of NCP's entire Beed district unit, the resignation of former Pune city unit chief Deepak Mankar, and the expulsion of Rajendra Hagawane, who was arrested in connection with his daughter-in-law's death, will be on the agenda for discussions when deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar-led party celebrates its 26th anniversary in Pune on June 10. Confirming this, state NCP president Sunil Tatkare on Friday said it is quite unfortunate that some office bearers were found to be involved in criminal activities, and police cases were also registered against them. "We have acted against such members but I feel that a person involved in crimes should not be associated with the party." After the split in 2023, both factions have been organising separate conventions to mark anniversaries in Pune since last year. This time, Ajit Pawar 's camp will hold its event at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, while NCP(SP) headed by Sharad Pawar has chosen Balgandharva Auditorium for its convention's venue. Tatkare said senior leadership has taken cognisance of all criminal cases involving party functionaries, and on June 10, they will reflect on them. "All members will be told not to indulge in any criminal activity, or they will face action even within the party." Amidst speculations of a possible merger of both factions, Tatkare said, "I am categorically saying that we have not received any such proposal. We have a core group within NCP which makes all the important decisions, and there has been no discussion on this topic." He further said his party is not deviating from its stand of being within NDA. "The discussion of joining NDA had been going on since 2014, and finally, the party collectively took a call to be part of the alliance under the leadership of Ajit Pawar. Now, those who support our stand and want to join us, we will welcome them." Earlier this year, NCP had to disband its Beed district unit after it came to light that some of the officer bearers were named in the FIR registered in connection with the Massajog sarpanch murder case. Mankar recently resigned from his post after a case of forgery was registered against him in Pune. The top brass expelled Hagawane from the party after he was named in the FIR related to the death of his daughter-in-law Vaishnavi. Later he was arrested. Congress contacted me about demand for special Parliament session, told them not the right time: Supriya Sule
Having broken ranks with the opposition on their demand for a special session of Parliament to discuss the developments following the Pahalgam terror attack, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule on Friday said the Congress had contacted her when she was abroad heading the all-party delegation and she told them to wait as it was 'not the right time to ask the government hard questions'. 'It was time for the country to show a united face,' she said. 'While I was abroad as a part of the delegation, the Congress contacted me. I said I cannot join them as I am away and told them to wait till all the delegations return. I told them, let's have a meeting and decide after I return, but it happened before I returned. That is why I could not sign the letter to the Prime Minister,' Sule told The Indian Express. Earlier this week, 16 Opposition parties led by the Congress wrote to Modi demanding a special session, saying 'there are serious questions facing the nation about the terror attack, killing of civilians in Poonch, Uri and Rajouri, the ceasefire announcements, and the implications on our national security and foreign policy'. 'We have supported the government's efforts to engage with the international community on India's position. The government has briefed foreign nations and the media, but not Parliament – keeping the people of India and their elected representatives in the dark,' the Opposition parties said. The NCP (SP) was not a signatory to the letter. Asked whether that was the reason for her party not signing the letter, Sule said, 'That's exactly because… you have to understand the factual situation. I was out. (Sharad) Pawar sahab had already made the statement that till the entire operation is over that the NCP will stand by the government. We will not say a word against the government. This is not the time to do petty politics. This is an issue of India's larger interest. So country comes first, then the state, then the party and then family.' Sule said the country comes first and India must send a message to the world that we are united against any terror attack. 'Pawar sahab had made it very clear. We were expecting that when the July session comes, hopefully everything will be settled by then, then we can definitely debate it. Because in a vibrant democracy, every issue must be debated, but there has to be a right time for it.' Saying that Pawar had made it clear that Operation Sindoor was ongoing and no special session was required till it finishes, Sule said her party was with the government on sensitive issues. 'Once the operation is over, we will ask the government hard questions, but not now. This is not the moment, especially when we were all out of India. We were telling the world more information, giving the facts to the world. Then we cannot ask questions. See, it's country first, then the state, then the party and then your family,' she said. Sule and the members of her delegation — they travelled to Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia and South Africa — met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday and provided him with feedback about their interactions. 'It's a lot of learning and we have come with a lot of feedback for the government. The countries which we visited were very, very supportive, and stand united and very strongly with the government of India or any terror attack anywhere in the world,' she said. Sule said her party would 'definitely ask' the government questions during the Monsoon session. 'Of course, I think India will ask questions, not just the NCP (SP). India will ask questions. India wants to know a lot of answers. It is not just about the NCP (SP), India wants to know.'

Supriya Sule could not sign letter for special Parliament sessions, urges Congress to wait
On Sharad Pawar not signing the joint letter of the Congress-led INDIA bloc demanding for a special Parliament session to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule on Thursday said that she could not sign the same as she was on four-nation multi-party delegation outreach tour. Speaking to journalists at a press conference, the Baramati MP said that the party's stance remains the same that there was no point for a debate at a time when Operation Sindoor is still underway. 'I couldn't sign the letter demanding the special session of Parliament as I was on a tour representing the country. I have shown faith and trust in my country. The tour was productive, and the leadership of all four countries – Qatar, South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia – expressed strong solidarity with India and condemned all acts of terrorism. There was a very clear message of peace and there is zero tolerance against terrorism anywhere in the world. One message was clearly given by all that terrorism has no religion,' she said. Ms. Sule further said that the countries they visited share close relations with India. 'All these countries we visited consider India, the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi.' Ms. Sule said that she has requested the Congress to wait until the multi-party delegations returned from abroad. 'Saheb (Sharad Pawar) has always said that on matters of foreign affairs and national security, all parties must come together as one and back the government of the day. I couldn't be demanding a special session of Parliament and a debate while putting forth my country's point of view abroad at the same time. However, when Parliament's monsoon session begins, we will be asking questions to the government on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor,' she added. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 16 opposition parties have demanded for a special Parliament session to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. According to Ms. Sule, the letter could have waited and submitted once all the delegations returned to India.

Couldn't sign letter for Parliament's special session as I was on tour representing country: Supriya Sule
Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar [NCP (SP)] leader Supriya Sule said on Thursday (June 5, 2025) that she could not sign a letter demanding a special session of Parliament over the Pahalgam attack, as she was on a tour representing India as part of a multi-party delegation. Addressing a press conference after her return from a four-nation tour, the MP from Baramati in Maharashtra's Pune district, said her party's stand was that there was no need for debate as 'Operation Sindoor' was still underway. 'When Parliament's monsoon session begins, we will be asking questions to the government on the Pahalgham attack and Operation Sindoor,' She said. The government had sent multi-party delegations to several nations to highlight Pakistan's continued support for terrorism and India's response to the April 22 Pahalgram attack in the form of Operation Sindoor to destroy terror centres in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. 'I couldn't sign the letter demanding the special session of Parliament as I was on a tour representing the country. I have shown faith and trust in my country. The tour was productive, and the leadership of all four countries — Qatar, South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia — expressed strong solidarity with India and condemned all acts of terrorism,' she said. All four countries share a close bond with India, which they consider 'the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi', she said. Ms. Sule said she had told Congress leaders that she would attend the INDIA bloc meetings after her return. The Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) is a constituent of the Opposition grouping INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance). In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 16 Opposition parties have demanded that a special session of Parliament be convened. The government on Wednesday (June 4, 2025) said that the Monsoon session of Parliament will be held from July 21 to August 12.

Egypt reaffirms solidarity with India's fight against terrorism
During its meeting with Abdelatty, the delegation conveyed 'India's deep appreciation to the Government of Egypt for its condemnation of terrorism, in strongest terms,' the Indian embassy in Egypt said in a post on X. The parliamentary delegation, led by NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule, met the minister during its two-day visit to Egypt, the final stop of its four-nation tour. The group also met League of Arab States Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit earlier in the day. Cairo, Jun 3 (PTI) Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday reiterated Cairo's solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism and welcomed deeper bilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism during a meeting with an all-party Indian delegation. Cairo had condemned the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives, with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi expressing heartfelt condolences over the loss of lives in the 'ghastly terror attack on Indian soil'. During the meeting with the minister, the delegation also reaffirmed India's collective resolve and steadfast commitment to counter-terrorism. 'FM Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's solidarity to India's fight against terrorism and welcomed further strengthening of bilateral collaboration on counter-terrorism,' the post added. Both sides also acknowledged the growing momentum in the Strategic Partnership between New Delhi and Cairo. The delegation is one of the seven multi-party delegations India had tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community to emphasise Pakistan's links to terrorism. Earlier in the day, the group met Arab League Secretary-General Gheit at the league's headquarters in Cairo. The league is a regional group of 22 Arab countries. In a post on X, the Indian embassy said, 'Two sides reaffirmed strong commitment to counter terrorism in all forms and manifestations!' They discussed 'India's wide-ranging political, economic and cultural engagement with the @arableague_gs,' the embassy said in a separate post. 'Countering terrorism is a priority to both @arableague_gs and India. The delegation underscored India's unified stance and collective determination to combat terrorism,' it added. The group arrived in Cairo after concluding its visit to Ethiopia on Sunday. On Monday, the delegation held 'productive discussions' with Egyptian lawmakers and conveyed India's firm and principled position against terrorism. It also engaged in a wide-ranging discussion with the Egyptian Council of Foreign Affairs. Apart from Sule, the delegation comprises BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Anurag Thakur and V Muraleedharan, Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Anand Sharma, TDP leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, AAP leader Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7. Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions. The on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.
