75-day deadline set for disbursal of aid under national family benefit scheme

Lucknow: From now on, disbursal of financial aid under the National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) must be made within 75 days of an application being submitted. If this timeline is not met, the approval will be given directly by the district-level committee to ensure immediate payments. The NFBS is a centrally sponsored scheme that provides a one-time financial assistance of Rs 30,000 to families living below the poverty line when their primary breadwinner, aged 18-59 years, passes away. The family's annual income to avail this scheme should not exceed Rs 56,460 in urban areas and Rs 46,080 in rural areas. In 2024-25, the govt provided assistance of Rs 326.64 crore to 1,08,883 families. The order issued by the govt states that under no circumstances will it be possible to disburse funds after 75 days of the application at the district level. If an application remains pending for this duration, the district magistrate must send a report to the director of the social welfare department, detailing the reason for the delay and all other points pertaining to the case. "The decision has been taken to ensure that eligible families do not have to make repeated visits to govt offices for financial assistance. The entire process from application to payment is now digital and accountable at every stage," said a govt spokesperson. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He stated that in case of a delay in issuing payment beyond 75 days of application, approval will be obtained directly from the district-level committee to facilitate immediate payment instead of dragging the case through lengthy procedures and waiting for additional approvals. The scheme will also soon incorporate Aadhaar-based live verification to instantly check the account status of beneficiaries. An SOP has been issued for district social welfare officers who will have to prepare the list of beneficiaries and ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria. The approved list will then be uploaded to the portal with digital signatures. Funds will be transferred to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Public Financial Management System, the official added. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Tripura govt to expand social security benefits to 5458 more beneficiaries next month

Agartala: Tripura govt has announced to expand social security benefits to an additional 5,458 people next month, besides the existing 3.90 lakh beneficiaries under 34 schemes, including three central-sponsored programmes. Social welfare minister Tinku Roy said 2,20,517 people are currently getting monthly pensions of Rs 2,000 each under state schemes and 28,809 are covered under the Chief Minister's Social Assistance Scheme, in addition to 1,40,675 beneficiaries of central schemes. "A sizable number of beneficiaries were scrapped from the benefit during verification of credentials as they had been given social pensions by the then Left Front govt, considering their political loyalty," Roy said. He added that the new inclusions are being done with utmost sincerity to ensure that only genuine people get benefits. Highlighting the success of the social security schemes, Roy said 3.90 lakh poor people are getting benefits from 34 such schemes, including the National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS). Under this scheme, in case of death of the main earning member of an Antyodaya category, that family is given Rs 20,000 as assistance. As part of this, 3476 cancer patients are being given monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 per head, and this will be expanded further. To ensure timely payment of social pension among the cancer patients, the Tripura govt on Thursday set up a new help desk at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre in Agartala. The cancer patients, except the govt employees and those having an annual income of over Rs 1.5 lakh, are eligible for the pension. The help desk would expedite the completion of documentation and enrollment procedures for the new social pension applicants within a month, to avoid harassment of patients and delays in pension disbursement.
