Shocking conspiracy theory shows why Carolina Panthers will go to the Super Bowl
A shocking conspiracy theory involving singer Jennifer Lopez and the Ohio State football team could see the Carolina Panthers make the Super Bowl this season. An online theory has the Panthers overcoming a playoff drought of eight years due to it being the first season after a Buckeyes' national championship and opening the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. A further wrinkle was added with being the first time the Panthers took the field after Lopez's last two divorces, per Barstool. The 2003 and 2015 seasons saw the Panthers reach the Super Bowl, only to lose to a Tom Brady-quarterbacked New England Patriots team and the Denver Broncos, led by Peyton Manning. The Panthers won both season openers against the Jaguars, with the early-September clash in Jacksonville now having much more attention attached to it from those in the Carolinas. Lopez split from Chris Judd in 2003 and her divorce from singer Marc Anthony was finalized in 2014. In January, her high-profile romance and reconciliation with Ben Affleck came to an end. The Panthers have +15000 odds to win the Super Bowl in 2025, the sixth-worst in the NFL. The team will likely stay with Bryce Young at quarterback, with hopes of winning the NFC South appearing a little out of reach, much less being on the doorstep of a championship. Heading into both previous NFC Championship seasons, the Panthers looked the part, while they do not this year. In the previous two seasons against the Jaguars, the Panthers played the rest of Jacksonville's division as well. That is not the case for the upcoming season, as the Panthers will play the four teams of the AFC East for its inter-conference matchups.

San Francisco 49ers acquire Eagles edge rusher Bryce Huff, AP source says
FILE - Philadelphia Eagles' Bryce Huff walks to the field during an NFL football NFC divisional playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles, Rams Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025, in Philadelphia. (AP Photo/Matt Slocum, File) SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have agreed on a deal to acquire Bryce Huff from Philadelphia after the pass rusher restructured his contract with the Eagles. A person familiar with the situation said Friday the two sides agreed to the trade after Huff revised his contract. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade can't be completed until after June 1 because of salary cap ramifications for the Eagles. Advertisement ESPN first reported that the teams were finalizing the deal for a Day 3 draft pick. Huff was set to make $17 million in fully guaranteed money this year and now the Eagles will pay $9.05 million of that with the 49ers on the hook for the remaining $7.95 million, according to ESPN. The move to acquire Huff gives San Francisco another needed option at edge rusher across from star Nick Bosa and reunites Huff with Robert Saleh, who was his head coach at the New York Jets during his most productive season in 2023. Huff had 10 sacks that season and recorded 67 pressures on just 334 pass rush snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Huff translated that breakthrough season into a three-year, $51.1 million deal with the Eagles. He had only 2 1/2 sacks and 23 pressures in his one season in Philadelphia, missing five games with a wrist injury. He was then a healthy scratch in the Super Bowl. Advertisement Huff was originally an undrafted free agent by the Jets in 2020 out of Memphis. He had 7 1/2 sacks in his first three seasons before the breakthrough campaign under Saleh in 2023. The Niners were in need of another pass rusher after cutting Leonard Floyd early in the offseason. They drafted Mykel Williams 11th overall in April but had no other defensive end who had a season with at least five sacks in the NFL. Yetur Gross-Matos is the only other edge rusher on the roster with extensive experience. Gross-Matos had four sacks last season in his first year with San Francisco. ___ AP Pro Football Writer Rob Maaddi contributed to this report. ___ AP NFL:

Trey Hendrickson willing to miss games if he does not get new deal with Cincinnati: Report
The standoff between the Cincinnati Bengals and Trey Hendrickson continues as the star defensive end seeks a larger contract with the franchise. While the Bengals have secured Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to long-term deals, Hendrickson's future in Cincinnati remains hanging in the air. On Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that several teams have expressed interest in the 30-year-old amid the contractual negotiations. However, two NFC executives noted that the Bengals will find a way to keep Hendrickson around after a spectacular 2024 season. "I can't see how they can let a great player go for a draft pick, given the pressure to win now," an NFC executive said. Another said, "I still think they can come to a compromise, getting him above that $30-million threshold while covering themselves." "The age [30] is something that must be a factor for them," the executive added. ESPN's Ben Baby noted that Hendrickson is reportedly "extremely dug in" on missing games or the entire season if he does not land a new contract. Hendrickson is yet to participate in any of the Bengals' voluntary workouts this offseason amid the tug of war with the front office. His absence comes despite being spotted at the team facility in mid-May. With mandatory minicamp running from June 10-12 in Cincinnati, Hendrickson could get fined if he no-shows the three-day preparation for the season. According to the NFL's current Collective Bargaining Agreement, a player can be fined $16,953 for the first missed day, $33,908 for the second day and $50,855 for the third day with unexcused absences. In a previous statement to ESPN, Hendrickson said that "no communication has taken place between my camp and the organization post-draft." "The offers prior to the draft did not reflect the vision we shared and were promised last offseason if I continued to play at a high level. Coaches are aware of these past conversations. Rather than using collaboration to get us to a point to bring me home to the team, THEY are no longer communicating. "I have been eagerly awaiting a resolution of this situation, but that's hard to do when there is no discussion and an evident lack of interest in reaching mutual goals." Hendrickson is heading into the final year of his contract and is set to make $15.8 million in base salary according to Over The Cap. This comes after a career-best season in which he recorded 33 tackles and an NFL-leading 17.5 sacks. After being drafted by the Saints and spending four seasons in New Orleans, Hendrickson arrived in Cincinnati and earned Pro Bowl selections in each of the past four seasons. His impressive performances led to the Bengals giving him a one-year extension in 2023 worth $21 million. According to Sportrac, Hendrickson received $16 million in guaranteed money and a $10 million signing bonus with his initial four-year, $60 million contract with the Bengals. His 2023 extension gave Hendrickson an $8 million signing bonus and increased his salary by $5 million. Hendrickson requested a trade last offseason after the team opted not to give him a new deal, but ultimately reported for OTAs and played out the season. The Bengals gave Hendrickson permission to seek a trade in March. Apart from Hendrickson, his teammate, rookie Shemar Stewart, is also sitting out OTAs while negotiating a clause in his rookie contract. Other notable OTA holdouts include T.J. Watt in Pittsburgh, James Cook in Buffalo and Micah Parsons in Dallas, with absences linked to contract-related matters.
