Can the Eagles defense still fly high?
Yahoo Sports NFL analyst Nate Tice and NFL writer Charles McDonald discuss Philadelphia's approach with an up-and-coming young defense that lost a couple of key pieces following last season's Super Bowl run. Hear the full conversation on 'Football 301' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript Philadelphia Eagles, Charles, why do you have him as your number one defense? Other than that, they were the number one defense last year and they won the Super Bowl. And they, I mean, it's a pretty easy argument to make as well. It's easy to make, but it's also not quite the same defense, you know, they've lost some guys on the defensive line. They've lost Milton Williams, who signed that massive deal with New England. Josh Sweat is in Arizona, but you look at their defense, right? And it's just littered with first and second round picks all over the place, right? The defensive line still is, you know, all the Georgia guys, they've really started to develop. Jordan Davis, I think we'll see what happens this year. He's gotten into incredible shape. Contract year, Jordan Davis could be special. We'll see. Jaylen Carter, we know about that. But Nolan Smith, like when I was skimming through some of my stuff, he has really improved from where he was when he first got into the NFL. Like he was all over the place in the Super Bowl. You get to bring back Zach Vaughan. Like we're talking about a 7-2 Scott Bonner, who was an absolute assassin last year. And sometimes you get these years from linebackers where like, oh, they put up a lot of numbers, but it's pretty manufactured. No, he actually played really, really good football last year. And then we got Quinnen Mitchell on the outside, who's an absolute stud. Cooper DeJean, who's an absolute stud. But they have so many guys on this defense still. I still think they're going to be the best defense in the league because a lot of those guys are so young. Like a lot of these guys are still in their rookie deals or first or second year players. These guys are going to get better. So I'm really excited to see what the next step of all those guys they've drafted in the last two years looks like in year three, because there's hard proof of concept that these are potentially Pro Bowl talented NFL players and they're so young. I just want to see what's next for them. Close

Do the Broncos now have the NFL's best defense?
Yahoo Sports NFL analyst Nate Tice and NFL writer Charles McDonald discuss how Denver's stacked secondary may mean the Mile High City is home to football's top defense. Hear the full conversation on 'Football 301' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript Let's go with your number two team, the Broncos, who were my number one team and Matt Harmon's number one team. I'll let you take the lead. You start looking at the CV room, OK, wow, if those guys play up to the ability that we know they have, that's insane. You get Hofanga, the old 49ers safety on the back end. That's crazy. I'm pumping the brakes a little bit on this Dre Greenlaw stuff. I just, I don't know how anyone can be confident on on what that's going to be. We'll see on that front, but even if he's not that good, this is still one of the elite defenses in the league. They're going to beat up the bad run games. They're going to give him hell. I don't I think they still have some things to prove as far as, you know, you go to Baltimore and you get demolished, and you go to Buffalo in the playoffs and you you get run right off the field again. So you got to improve there, but they just check off so many boxes that it's hard to have much lower than this. I ended with them at number one because it's just momentum from May and just getting excited about what they did and just, yeah, pass rush, pressures, like they can win with four. They can win with blitzes. They do funky stuff that makes it hard on battle lines and young quarterbacks or bad quarterbacks. They have the dude at corner in Pat Surtain, reigning Defensive Player of the Year, who can lock down anybody. Hank is a headhunter. He's a little risk-reward type of safety, but man, he can make some plays. I really like him. I think what you just mentioned about run games that can kind of steamroll people, that's theirthat's the Vance Joseph scheme weakness, I would say, because it's the same discussion we've had with the Cardinals too. It's so funky and so much movement on the front end that if it gets blocked up, it's a gash. And that's the risk-reward of their defensive style. Do they kind of tone it down? We'll see, but it's kind of dance with the one who brought you, kind of thing. That's why I always kind of, you know, I don't know how to decide on those things. But yeah, they have a lot of answers for a lot of different teams on top of speed, versatility, and all the good stuff. Close

Yankees hold moment of silence before first pitch against Rays in honor of fallen NYPD officer
The New York Yankees held a moment of silence in honor of NYPD Officer Didarul Islam before the first pitch of Tuesday's matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays. "Before tonight's game, we held a moment of silence in memoriam of NYPD Police Officer Didarul Islam, who was tragically killed in the midtown shooting yesterday," the Yankees wrote on X. An office building was the site of a mass shooting that left five dead, including Didarul, when a gunman unleashed fire inside before taking his own life. The high-rise office tower is located on 52nd Street and Park Avenue in Manhattan, a borough that neighbors the Bronx, the home of Yankee Stadium. "The entire Yankees organization sends its condolences to his family as well as to the families of the other victims of this senseless act of violence," the Yankees statement concluded. The Yankees trailed the Rays 3-0 in the third inning Tuesday night. Flags at government buildings across the city were placed at half-staff Tuesday in honor of Islam, New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed. The building where the shooting took place houses the NFL's headquarters. In a memo obtained by Fox News Digital, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed at least one NFL employee was "seriously injured" but was listed in stable condition. Goodell also thanked Islam for his sacrifice. "We are deeply grateful to the law enforcement officers who responded to this threat quickly and decisively and to Officer Islam, who gave his life to protect others," the memo said. The 36-year-old had been on the force four years before he was gunned down Monday evening. He was a married father to two young boys, and his wife is pregnant with their third child, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. Islam was assigned to the NYPD's 47th Precinct in the Bronx. He was one of two uniformed officers in the Park Avenue building when the shooting occurred. The NYPD said Islam "represented the very best of our department." "He was protecting New Yorkers from danger when his life was tragically cut short today," the NYPD added. "We join in prayer during this time of incomprehensible pain. We will forever honor his legacy."

Chile authorities hand luxury watches stolen from actor Keanu Reeves over to the FBI
Chilean authorities say they have turned six valuable watches stolen from Canadian actor Keanu Reeves over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, months after recovering them in a police raid. Reeves was able to identify the stolen watches, including a Rolex, taken from his house in Los Angeles during a string of high-profile burglaries in December 2023. The items turned up in Santiago when police raided homes and uncovered stolen cars, phones, luxury watches and designer hand bags. The operation was related to an earlier investigation by Chilean authorities and the FBI into a spate of burglaries, targeting the multi-million-dollar homes of celebrities and professional athletes. Victims of these burglaries included NFL players Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. The announcement was made as the Trump administration's secretary of homeland security, Kristi Noem, arrived in the South American country for meetings with Chilean officials about transnational crime, among other issues. Ms Noem was also the victim of a robbery attributed to a Chilean national residing illegally in the United States, when her bag was stolen last April at a Washington restaurant. Reeves's six watches are valued at a total of $US125,000 ($191,000). In April, police in Chile announced the arrest of 23 people over the string of break-ins. Aided by the FBI, authorities carried out raids across Santiago codenamed Operation Pennsylvania, which led to the seizure of 1.3 billion pesos ($2,076,617) worth of goods. "This phenomenon of international thieves has regretfully existed in our country for many years, but it's unfortunately been on the rise recently," prosecutor Eduardo Baeza said during a press conference. Seven suspected members of the Chilean theft ring were charged in the US in February. Federal prosecutors in Florida filed a criminal complaint against the Chilean nationals ranging in age from 22 to 38. The highly organised ring were using temporary phones to avoid detection, the complaint said. Investigators were able to track them down using phone signals and capturing data. Links between the theft of Reeves's watches and the other high-profile burglaries are still being investigated. ABC/Wires
