2025 Heisman Trophy odds, pick: Back this 500/1 long shot before it's too late

There is a common misconception that the Heisman Trophy always goes to one of the preseason favorites. Unlike the NFL MVP, which seemingly just goes to the best quarterback every season, the list of players who can win the Heisman is much longer and more diverse. While we haven't seen a non-QB be named NFL MVP since 2012, two of them (DeVonta Smith and Travis Hunter) have won the Heisman in the last five years. Furthermore, only two of the last six Heisman winners (Bryce Young and Caleb Williams) boasted single-digit odds heading into Week 1 in that span, while three of the last six winners (Joe Burrow, Smith, and Hunter) went into the season at 40/1 or longer (Smith was the biggest price at 100/1). So, just because Arch Manning (Texas), Garrett Nussmeier (LSU), Cade Klubnik (Clemson), and Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State) are at the top of the betting board doesn't mean that this is a four-horse race between the favorites. In fact, there's a very real chance that two or three of those players fall out of the picture completely by Halloween. We saw that happen last year when Dillon Gabriel, Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers, and Jalen Milroe entered Week 1 as the betting favorites. Of that group, only Gabriel cracked the top 10 in Heisman voting. You could argue that this year's favorite, Manning, is an outlier and will be impossible to beat given his pedigree and the outsized media attention he will receive, but I'd push back on that. Texas' and Manning's expectations are sky high, but if they don't reach them, the presumptive 2026 No. 1 overall pick's Heisman hopes will take a real hit. If they do stumble, this race blows wide open, as the other favorites all feel lukewarm. Nussmeier's LSU could fail to stand out in the loaded SEC, while we're still waiting for a true star turn from Klubnik at Clemson. Blake Horvath rushed for 17 touchdowns in 2024. Getty Images As for Smith, he's a wide receiver, so it's naturally going to be harder for him to win the award. Perhaps one of the trendy sleepers like DJ Lagway (18/1) or LaNorris Sellers (16/1) makes good on their considerable hype, but their odds have already taken a hit, especially when you peek around at some of the prices being offered on some other contenders. In fact, there's one player out there (a quarterback, no less) at 500/1 (BetMGM) whose profile is on par with several of the favorites in this market. The only problem is that this player plays for Navy, which hasn't had a Heisman winner since Roger Staubach in 1963. And before you roll your eyes and move on to Page Six, let's lay out the case for Blake Horvath. Horvath, who is entering his senior year at Annapolis, was responsible for 30 touchdowns for the Midshipmen in 2024, running for 17 and adding 13 more through the air. Betting on College Football? The Hillard, Ohio, native also finished 20th in the country with 1,254 yards on the ground, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. Horvath, in his first year as a starter, was a key reason why Navy was one of the surprise packages in 2024, going 10-3 and beating Oklahoma in a bowl game. There's a real chance that Horvath and the Midshipmen are even better in 2025. Not only is Navy returning plenty of production from their terrific 2024 team, but they've also got a soft schedule that gives them a real chance at gatecrashing the College Football Playoff. If that happens, you can expect Horvath to have plenty of hype behind him. Winning over the media is a massive part of winning the Heisman, and it will be nearly impossible for any journalist to ignore the story of a Navy quarterback leading the Midshipmen to the Playoff. Madden 99 Club: Josh Allen first ever Bills player to receive top rating
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has officially reached the top of the video game rankings. The reigning NFL MVP is one of seven players in the league who have been given a 99 rating from the EA Sports Madden NFL video game in this year's edition, Madden NFL 26. An elite distinction, Allen is also the first Bills player in franchise history to receive the digital honor. Over almost four decades of the Madden video game's existence, no Buffalo player has ranked in the top category. With that, here is the breakdown of the game's categories for him that help determine the ranking: Josh Allen, QB EA Sports' long-running video game franchise, more Madden Ultimate Team news, and player ratings news will be coming throughout the week for their '26 version, and got things started on Monday. This year, Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson was the only other player chosen as a 99 at the position. Jackson came close to potentially tying the Bills in the final minute and a half of their divisional round contest last postseason. His double-clutch throw during a two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter caused Ravens tight end Mark Andrews to turn back to try and make a play in motion, but he wasn't able to hold onto the catch. The full list of the '99 club' can be found below: QB Josh Allen QB Lamar Jackson RB Saquon Barkley WR Ja'Marr Chase WR Justin Jefferson OL Lane Johnson DE Myles Garrett

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Buffalo Bills and superstar quarterback Josh Allen are headed into the 2025 NFL season with only one goal in mind. Nothing but a Super Bowl would make the upcoming campaign count as a success. Last season, the Bills were just one win away from the big game. Unfortunately, they lost to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. In recent years, Buffalo has looked the part of a Super Bowl favorite on multiple occasions. The team simply has not been able to get over the hump. "That's the only thing on my mind in camp, is just like, what can we do to bring a Lombardi trophy home?" Allen said. Allen put together the best season of his career last year. He won the NFL MVP, but that didn't mean much to him. Without a championship, the MVP was simply another award, although he was happy to win it. Throughout the course of the year, Allen played in 16 games. He completed 63.6 percent of his pass attempts for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, while also racking up 531 yards and 12 more touchdowns on the ground. At 29 years old, Allen seems to have a new sense of urgency. He knows that a championship window can close at any time. They gave him a massive six-year, $330 million contract. Now, it's time for him to take his game up to another level and bring home a championship. Of course, that is easier said than done and will take a complete team effort. Allen and the rest of the Buffalo roster are highly motivated to get the job done this year. It will be interesting to see what the Bills are able to do this season. Allen's comments are a clear message to both his own team and the rest of the NFL that. Buffalo Bills on 'Hard Knocks': 5 storylines to watch from Josh Allen and crew
The NFL's annual offseason reality television show is following a contender in 2025. For the first time, the "Hard Knocks" sports documentary show will follow the Buffalo Bills. Last season was another success for the team as they won a fifth consecutive AFC East title and made it to the AFC championship game, while quarterback Josh Allen won NFL MVP honors. The 2025 season marks the ninth under coach Sean McDermott and eighth with Allen under center. The duo has established the Bills as one of the top teams in the league and an annual AFC contender against the likes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills" will follow the team from St. John Fisher University in Pittsford, New York, over five episodes, which will stream on HBO Max. MVP FOLLOW-UP: Josh Allen on ESPN's QB ratings, fewer turnovers, and the 'big number' The new season premieres Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 9 p.m. ET. A team like this has plenty of intrigue as they're preparing for another postseason run and a potential championship. Here are five storylines we're looking forward to following on Hard Knocks this season: 'SURPRISE': Josh Allen found out about Bills' 'Hard Knocks' appearance on 29th birthday Will James Cook get an extension? The Bills' top running back isn't holding out but has been outspoken about wanting to get an extension done. He tied for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024 and made his second consecutive Pro Bowl. He's confident in what he's shown on the field and spoke on Thursday, July 24 about the importance of being at camp. "It's my job," Cook said. "I got to participate out here so I won't get fined. And just come out here and show them I'm ready to go and earn what I got to go get." Cook was a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and will be the 18th-highest paid running back in the league in 2025 at $5.7 million, per Spotrac. That puts him behind the likes of Chuba Hubbard, Travis Etienne and Devin Singletary. It's currently not a contentious standoff between the two sides, but it's one of the bigger storylines of the Bills' offseason. We will hopefully get a closer look at negotiations thanks to Hard Knocks. NEXT CONTRACT: Running back James Cook, Bills motivated to get extension done Keon Coleman in year two The Bills' top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft had a solid but unspectacular rookie season with 556 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 13 games. Compared to other top-50 wide receivers in the class, it was disappointing, especially compared to Los Angeles' Ladd McConkey selected one pick later. Coleman agrees. "You want to know exactly what I see?" Coleman said when asked about reviewing his 2024 tape. "Man, that (expletive) trash. You got to be better, simple as that ... call out everything you're doing wrong to make it right." He's outspoken and one of the funnier young players behind closed doors. During his combine interview with the Bills, Coleman said he likes to golf and go bowling when not playing football. "I'm Tiger 'wish-he-could,' I'm not Tiger Woods," he said as Bills officials laughed. "I wish I could putt and do all that ... it might take me five (shots) just to putt it in but I'm going to go have fun. Like, you know, it's controlled chaos." Coleman quotes alone should be must-watch TV. Josh Allen, board game MVP Allen became the first Bills player to earn NFL MVP honors since 1973. He's had a busy offseason as well, marrying actress Hailee Steinfeld in a ceremony in Montecito, California. Allen's training camp performances will be closely tracked given the pressure on him and the team following a close loss to the Chiefs in last year's AFC championship game. To clear his mind and provide another way to bond with teammates, Allen taught fellow players the popular board game "Settlers of Catan." He started playing during 2020 and is well-established as the top player on the Bills in the game. "I just hate when Josh wins, honestly," Bills tight end Dawson Knox told ESPN in 2024. "But no, it's been fun. We're definitely not teaming up against him, but we just, we hate when he wins. " There's a good chance "Settlers of Catan" comes up at some point during training camp. Good luck to anyone trying to beat the MVP. How are the Bills' free agents fitting in? Buffalo spent money in free agency to bolster both the offense and defense like a true Super Bowl contender. On offense, the biggest signing was wide receiver Joshua Palmer, with more depth pieces brought in among the pass catchers. The defense saw more big names like edge rusher Joey Bosa, cornerback Tre'Davious White, defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi and cornerback Dane Jackson. That's a lot of big names who could have important roles in 2025 for a team with aspirations of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in February 2026. How well and how quickly each of them get settled in with their respective units will be important to follow throughout this season of Hard Knocks. How much will the rookie defensive linemen play? Buffalo spent a lot of top draft capital on the defensive line in the 2025 NFL Draft, starting in the second round with defensive tackle T.J. Sanders. The Bills then selected athletic edge rusher Landon Jackson in Round 3 and massive defensive tackle Deone Walker in Round 4. These players likely won't have huge roles in 2025 but will be contributors on a rotational basis as they represent the potential future of the defensive line in Buffalo. Jackson was an NFL combine darling for his athletic feats and could offer some splash plays in the offseason. Walker, at 6-foot-7 and 331 pounds, is one of the biggest players on the team in the mold of longtime Bills nosetackle DaQuan Jones. Walker and Jones' interactions could be interesting to follow as Walker develops behind the 33-year-old veteran.
