Lightning await 2025-26 schedule as NHL announces Opening Night tripleheader
The Lightning are set to find out their full schedule for the 2025-26 NHL regular season on Wednesday, July 16, at 1 p.m. ET. Last year, the Bolts opened the 2024-'25 regular season on the road against the Carolina Hurricanes as the Tampa Bay Area was reeling from the devastation caused by Hurricane Milton. The home-opener was eventually rescheduled. While we wait on the new schedule, the NHL has announced that the 2025-26 regular season will open on Tuesday, Oct. 7 with a tripleheader broadcast. The Chicago Blackhawks will take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers at 5 p.m. ET. Before puck drop, the Panthers will raise their second championship banner in a ceremony at Amerant Bank Arena. The action continues at 8 p.m. ET as the Pittsburgh Penguins face the New York Rangers in a Metropolitan Division showdown at Madison Square Garden. Capping off the night, the Colorado Avalanche will visit the Los Angeles Kings for a Western Conference battle at Arena, with puck drop set for 10:30 p.m. ET. NHL Network will broadcast a special one-hour edition of NHL Tonight to cover the schedule release, hosted by Jamison Coyle, Mike Rupp, and E.J. Hradek. Ducks goaltender Damian Clara to represent his home country–Italy at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026
The 20-year-old goaltender for the Anaheim Ducks could not believe his ears when he heard–'Hey, we've got our top six guys and you're one of them.' Damian Clara received this beyond-belief news on June 16. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The netminder only talked about it with Dan Arritt of NHL Network on July 18. He innocently told Arritt, 'I didn't even know there was a thing. I just got a call, and I was like–Okay, wow. What's that?' Clara hails from Brunico, Italy, and he's going to represent his home country at the 2026 Olympics! How does Damian Clara feel about representing Italy in the 2026 Winter Olympics ? 'It's a big honor. Really happy to get the trust. I will do my best to go there and hopefully help the team. It's our goal, and we'll see what happens,' Clara told Arritt. When Arritt asked him how he viewed competing in the Olympics? The netminder said, 'Just see it as a challenge. There's nothing to lose. Exciting opportunity–as I'm still in the development. And it's a great thing for Italian hockey to invite some of the best players in the world into our rink and obviously match up with our team. ' Arritt asked him if he used his stature to intimidate the players on the rink. The 6-foot-6, 214-pounder goalie said, 'Sometimes, I open up and I play too aggressive and make life hard for myself. That's something else I've learned–just use what's there the best way possible, and I think there's still some steps I can take to accomplish that and get more out of it.' Six players from the NHL will compete in the 2026 Olympic Winter Games Apart from the goggle-eyed goalie, six others will play in the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026–Rasmus Dahlin(defenseman and captain for the Buffalo Sabres), Gabriel Landeskog(left winger and captain for the Colorado Avalanche), Lucas Raymond(ice hockey winger for Detroit Red Wings), Adrian Kempe(ice hockey player for the Los Angeles Kings), Victor Hedman(defenseman and captain for Tampa Bay Lightning), and William Nylander(ice hockey forward for Toronto Maple Leafs)–but they would all be representing Sweden. NHL Rumour: Will Quinn Hughes go to New Jersey Devils? Analyst Mike Johnson suggests possible Hughes brothers reunion
Quinn Hughes (via Getty Images) Quinn Hughes might currently remain signed with the Vancouver Canucks, but recent rumors imply the dynamic defenseman might have the New Jersey Devils in his sights for the future—along with his brothers Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes. NHL Network analyst Mike Johnson stoked speculation of a possible family reunion in New Jersey by suggesting the three Hughes brothers might soon share an NHL locker room sooner than most anticipate. Mike Johnson hints Quinn Hughes signing with Jack and Luke Hughes in New Jersey On an NHL Network feature recently, former player and analyst Mike Johnson proposed a dramatic scenario: Quinn Hughes departing the Vancouver Canucks in 2027 to sign with the New Jersey Devils alongside his younger brothers. New Jersey Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko started the discussion by stating a contract extension for Luke Hughes is unavoidable: "I think it's not a matter of 'if,' but 'when'." Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald shared that stance in a recent appearance on the media circuit, saying, "My No. 1 priority is Luke Hughes and what I do with Luke Hughes will determine what else I possibly could do." But it was MikeJohnson's observations regarding Luke potentially signing a short-term "bridge" contract that caught some eyebrows. The reasoning? If Luke signs a shorter deal, he and Jack Hughes might be able to coordinate their free agency windows with Quinn Hughes becoming a free agent in 2027. ' you're Luke, you say, 'I'll take four (years) and I'll take $28 (million),' and then you're back to it," MikeJohnson said. "Your brother (Jack) is going to be on the team, too… Very likely, the other brother, Quinn, is two years away (from becoming a free agent)—he might be coming as well." 'This franchise cannot afford to lose a guy like Quinn Hughes,' Rutherford said. 'We will do everything we can to keep him here, but at the end of the day, it'll be his decision.' Rutherford also touched on the emotional component of family with Quinn's decision-making, saying, '(Quinn) said before, he wants to play with his brothers." Personal life details of Olivia Bonn If the New Jersey Devils can manage their cap space and Luke Hughes takes a short-term deal, the dream of seeing all three Hughes brothers on the same NHL roster may not be far from reality.
