Samuel L. Jackson Set to Star in TULSA KING Spinoff Series NOLA KING at Paramount+ — GeekTyrant

Paramount+ is expanding Taylor Sheridan's criminal underworld universe again, this time with Samuel L. Jackson leading the series. According to Variety, a Tulsa King spinoff titled NOLA King is in development, with Jackson set to star and executive produce. The new series will shift the story's focus from Oklahoma to New Orleans, with Jackson playing a character said to mirror Sylvester Stallone's Dwight 'The General' Manfredi. But before NOLA King takes center stage, Jackson will reportedly appear in Tulsa King Season 3, setting up his role in the spinoff. Details about his character remain under wraps, but you can probably expect the kind of commanding presence Jackson brings to just about every role he's ever taken. NOLA King is being written and showrun by Dave Erickson, who already collaborates with Sheridan on both Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown . Erickson will also executive produce alongside Sheridan and David C. Glasser of 101 Studios. Production duties are being handled by MTV Entertainment Studios. Jackson needs no introduction. His resume speaks for itself, an Oscar-nominated turn in Pulp Fiction , collaborations with Tarantino on Jackie Brown , Django Unchained , and The Hateful Eight , not to mention his long-running role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On the TV side, Jackson recently starred in Apple TV+'s The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey and is set to appear in Fight Night . The original Tulsa King , led by Stallone, follows a New York mob capo who's sent to Oklahoma after a 25-year prison stint and decides to build his own empire from the ground up. It quickly became another hit for Sheridan, thanks to its setting, sharp writing, and Stallone's grizzled charm. NOLA King is shaping up to be a promising companion series, one that could bring a new flavor of organized crime to the franchise. I like the the series is set deep in the gothic heart of Louisiana. Production on Tulsa King Season 3 is currently underway in Atlanta and Oklahoma.

Samuel L. Jackson might grab a Tulsa King spin-off

It's starting to look—by effect, if not necessarily intent—that Taylor Sheridan's Whole Thing has been an ongoing effort to make a TV show with every single major American actor over a certain age. This thought brought to you by a report that Samuel L. Jackson is reportedly eying a starring role in a spin-off of the Sheridan-produced Tulsa King. Per THR, Jackson would enter the Tulsaverse (King Cinematic Universe?) through traditional TV methods: A guest star role on the third season of the Sylvester Stallone-starring Paramount+ show, followed by his own spin-off. And why not? Between Tulsa King and Yellowstone, Sheridan has filled his TV Rolodex with many of film's biggest names, starting with Kevin Costner, and then branching out to include Stallone, Harrison Ford, Donald Sutherland, Dianne Wiest, Billy Bob Thornton, Sam Elliott, and many more. (And that's just the stuff that's already come out: The man continually churns out new shows with a machine-like pace that really belies his love of horses and the open range.) Jackson, specifically, would be signing on for NOLA King, set (obviously) in New Orleans. If we had to guess from Sheridan's whole MO, he'll be playing some kind of extremely tough older man with ties to crime who nevertheless lives by a personal code of honor that is, dare we say, in many ways a more robust system of conduct than any of the pathetic laws of the nation in which we live. But this is only speculation! He might also turn out to have a love interest 30 years his junior, too. NOLA King is being written and showrun by Dave Erickson, who also currently handles showrunning duties on Sheridan's Mayor Of Kingstown. If Jackson ends up signing on for the show—and Deadline has pretty much confirmed it at this point—it'd be a rare turn to TV for the actor; his previous, rare television roles include some mandatory Marvel duties, Peacock's Fight Night, and his Apple TV+ series The Last Days Of Ptolemy Grey. One of Taylor Sheridan's best Paramount+ shows is getting a spinoff set in New Orleans

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, BGR may receive an affiliate commission. If you've been enjoying the rugged and unapologetically ridiculous mob drama that is Tulsa King, then you're in for a treat — Paramount+ is getting ready to expand the show's universe with a spinoff set in New Orleans, and Samuel L. Jackson is stepping in to lead the charge. Variety reports that Jackson is attached to star in and executive produce the new series, the working title of which is NOLA King. Which, I don't know about you, but already conjures up for me an image of Jackson in a stylish blazer, pacing the French Quarter with a cigar in one hand and a cane in the other. NOLA King will follow a character comparable in vibe to Sylvester Stallone's Dwight Manfredi — meaning, Jackson will play a larger-than-life figure with a past, a purpose, and probably a handful of quotable threats up his sleeve. Specific plot details are still under wraps, but if it's anything like Tulsa King, expect the tone to lean more toward campy crime caper than prestige television. Not that that's automatically a bad thing. It's not going to win any critical acclaim anytime soon, but fans like me don't care; Tulsa King remains one of my favorite guilty pleasures on TV. Not every show has to reinvent the wheel or leave reviewers spellbound, and Tulsa King doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. Who cares that the premise — Stallone, at 76, playing a mafia boss who decamps to Oklahoma to set up shop — is just south of plausible? The show nevertheless leans in with total confidence, like a guy at the blackjack table who's already smashed and still playing five hands at once. It's the streaming equivalent of good old fashioned comfort food. I say all that because this New Orleans spinoff, if it keeps that same spirit, could end up being a blast. Think Tulsa King but with more jazz, maybe some voodoo references, and Samuel L. Jackson probably yelling at someone while wearing a cool hat. And while Paramount+ hasn't revealed any other specifics regarding NOLA King just yet, Season 3 of the OG series — which will serve as the launchpad for Jackson's character — is already in production. Honestly, if the spinoff gives me even half the unhinged joy of watching Stallone shake down a weed dispensary, I'll definitely be all in. And so will quite a few other viewers, I imagine. 'This show, like every other Taylor Sheridan-produced show, is going to be a hit,' TV industry commentator and critic Dan Barrett wrote in his Always Be Watching email newsletter Thursday. 'People will talk about it. And viewers will be there for it.' Paramount+ already has Rocky Balboa; now they're adding Nick Fury. Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to star in NOLA King, a new spinoff of the streamer's Sylvester Stallone-led series Tulsa King, according to our sister site Deadline. Cook Jackson will debut as Russell in Tulsa King's upcoming third season, tangling with Dwight in multiple episodes before heading to his own spinoff. NOLA King will be penned by Mayor of Kingstown alum Dave Erickson, who will also serve as showrunner, with the omnipresent Taylor Sheridan serving as an executive producer. Debuting in November 2022, Tulsa King has become a breakout hit for Paramount+, setting records as the streamer's most-watched series premiere globally and hitting the Nielsen streaming charts in its second season. Season 3 does not have a premiere date yet, but here's everything we know so far about the new season. Jackson is best known for his film work, including his Oscar-nominated role as hitman Jules in Pulp Fiction and playing S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with 2008's Iron Man. His other film credits include Die Hard With a Vengeance, Unbreakable and the Star Wars prequel trilogy. On the small screen, he reprised his role of Nick Fury on Secret Invasion and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., along with a role alongside Kevin Hart, Don Cheadle and Taraji P. Henson in last year's Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist for Peacock. Are you ready to head down to Nawlins with Sam Jackson? Let us know what you think of the spinoff news in a comment below.
