Hyderabad: The Deputy Chief Minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, said that the Chokka Rao Devadula Project holds the highest priority for the state government. During his visit to the project along with his cabinet colleagues N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Vaakiti Srihari, and Seethakka, as well as local MPs and MLAs, Bhatti said that from the very beginning of the Devadula Project until now, the Congress government has taken it up with the utmost prestige. 'It is said that a total of Rs 100 crore is pending, including land acquisition costs and other outstanding bills. We will release these funds in phases. Officials should immediately send the related details. Through this project, irrigation water is being supplied to 17 constituencies in the state,' he said. The Irrigation Minister, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who accompanied him, said that the project is designed to irrigate 5.57 lakh acres across Hanamkonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Jangaon, Yadadri, Suryapet, and Siddipet a total lift of 469 metres—from +71 m to +540 m—and the utilisation of 38.16 TMC over 170 pumping days annually, the project is being executed in three phases. Uttam pushes for fast-tracking Devadula project, calls Jawahar LIS a game changer

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday said the J Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme (JCRDLIS) would be a lifeline for upland, drought-prone regions of Telangana and directed officials to complete it at the earliest. Reviewing the project after visiting the Sammakka Sarakka barrage and the off-take point in Gangaram village, Kannaigudem mandal of Mulugu district, he said JCRDLIS is designed to irrigate 5.57 lakh acres across Hanamkonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Jangaon, Yadadri, Suryapet, and Siddipet districts. With a total lift of 469 metres and utilisation of 38.16 TMC over 170 pumping days annually, the project is being executed in three phases. Tenders had been finalised and the project would be completed within a year to provide irrigation to 33,000 acres. Announcing ayacut statistics, Uttam said the scheme will serve three major segments — Nidhanapuram major (13,000 acres), Jamalapuram major (10,000 acres), and Mailavaram major (5,000 acres). Mandal-wise, 12 villages in Madhira mandal would receive water for 13,219 acres and 23 villages in Yerrupalem mandal for 19,800 acres — totalling 35 villages with 33,025 acres. Designed in line with the State's irrigation policy of delivering maximum water at minimal cost, Jawahar LIS, he said, would boost agricultural productivity and serve as a model project for other upland areas. Turning to broader water policy, Uttam reiterated Telangana's fight for its rightful 71 per cent share of Krishna river waters. He accused the previous BRS government of accepting only 34 per cent, calling it a grave injustice to the state. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Uttam urges officials to expedite SLBC tunnel works

Hyderabad: State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday directed officials to fast-track the resumption of works on the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, calling the project a 'very high priority' for the Congress government. At a high-level review meeting, the Minister said the process to restart works had already been set in motion. A meeting with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka would be held shortly to secure clearances and support from the Finance, Energy and other related departments. Uttam Kumar Reddy recalled that an expert committee was constituted after the tunnel accident and that work was being resumed based on its recommendations. He expressed regret that the incomplete 9-km stretch of tunnel was stopping the State from drawing water from the bottom of the Srisailam reservoir through gravity. This was forcing the government to spend nearly Rs 750 crore annually on electricity to lift the water, affecting several regions, especially tribal and fluoride-affected areas. 'The fact that we can bring water from the bottom of Srisailam means we don't even need to wait for the dam to fill. It would serve some of the most backward areas. It is unfortunate that such a crucial lifeline is stuck for just 9 kilometres of work,' he said. The Minister said the government had decided to proceed comprehensively and with advanced technology. As the first step, the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) would conduct an aerial electromagnetic survey, using helicopter-mounted equipment capable of mapping up to one kilometre below ground level. 'Helicopter surveys are necessary because of the difficult terrain and there's no other practical way to get this data. This will also give us a good idea of the fault lines and structural challenges,' he explained. The remaining tunnelling operations, covering nearly 10 km, would be resumed immediately. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) would also be involved, and an aerial LIDAR survey would be conducted to ensure precise planning. Therefore, there would be two surveys with different objectives. He said the project would be executed within the estimated cost approved by the state cabinet, with no compromise on quality or speed.
