NYT Connections hints and answers for today (31 May 2025)

NYT Connections is back with another thrilling puzzle for today. If you're ready to kick off your Saturday with a brain-boosting puzzle, look no further than today's edition of Connections, the New York Times ' increasingly popular daily game. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Whether you're a casual word lover or a full-on puzzle enthusiast, this challenge is a great way to test your pattern recognition and vocabulary skills. Below, you'll find a full guide including hints, today's answers, and category explanations. Proceed with caution—spoilers lie ahead, but if you want help solving without giving everything away, the hints might just point you in the right direction. What is NYT Connections? Connections is a daily word association game from the New York Times. Out of 16 given words, the objective is to group them into four sets of four connected by a common theme. These themes may be concrete (like 'types of fruit') or abstract (like 'things you blow'), and they increase in difficulty, moving from yellow (easiest) to purple (hardest). Each grouping has only one correct combination, so careful thought is required. How to play NYT Connections? You start with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to figure out how they can be divided into four distinct groups of four, with each group sharing a common trait. Select four words you think are connected and submit them. If correct, they'll be grouped and removed from the board. If not, the game will give you feedback, possibly saying you're 'one away.' But beware—you only get four mistakes before the game ends. You can play Connections free online at the NYT Games site. Hints for today's NYT Connections (31 may 2025) Here are subtle clues to help you think about today's word groupings: Yellow group – These could describe tucked-away or secret spots. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Green group – These are often awarded or displayed for notable accomplishments. Blue group – Think about what happens to dough before it becomes bread. Purple group – These can all be puffed up or burst in some fashion. Answers for today's Connections Yellow group – Alcove: cavity, hollow, nook, recess Green group – Ways to recognize achievement: certificate, medal, plaque, trophy Blue group – Verbs in breadmaking: ferment, proof, rest, rise Purple group – Things you can blow: bubble, fuse, kiss, raspberry Explanation of each group Alcove: These words—cavity, hollow, nook, recess—are all synonyms or closely related to small hidden spaces or indentations. Despite the dental misdirection from cavity and plaque, only one made the cut here. Ways to recognize achievement: This set includes certificate, medal, plaque, and trophy, all common tokens of recognition in academics, sports, and other achievements. It's a straightforward category once you discard the dental association of plaque. Verbs in breadmaking: Perhaps the trickiest of the four, this group—ferment, proof, rest, rise—includes steps in preparing bread dough. These words might confuse players unfamiliar with baking terminology. Things you can blow: Bubble, fuse, kiss, and raspberry all fit this playful and diverse category. From the literal (blowing bubbles) to the idiomatic (blowing a fuse), it's a fun mix. Saturday's Connections was a clever puzzle with a nice mix of wordplay and thematic trickery. The dental red herring and baking jargon offered some challenges, but the groups fell into place with a bit of lateral thinking. Whether you got them all or needed a nudge, remember it's all about learning and having fun. Come back tomorrow for another wordy adventure!

NYT ‘Connections' Hints And Answers For Saturday, May 31

Connections hints and answers are here. Looking for Friday's NYT Connections hints, clues and answers instead? You can find them here: Saturday has arrived but that's no reason to stop playing Connections before you fully wake up and going about your day. So read on for hints and answers. Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here. The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there. There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can't just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you're close, it will tell you that you're one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzles, you can get an NYT Games subscription to access the full archives of all past puzzles. So, onto the hints and answers: These are the hints that are laid out on the puzzle board itself, but after that, we will get into spoiler territory with some hints and eventually the answers. The hints for the Connections groups today are: Alright, the full spoilers follow here as we get into what the groups are today: The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are: Connections Surprisingly enough I got Purple Group as my first one today. I was trying to think of what RASPBERRY would connect to with no other food items listed, and then I realized really the only other thing that made sense was blowing one. That led to BUBBLE, KISS and then FUSE pretty quickly. Yellow Group used CAVITY which I know they were trying to trick me with by having PLAQUE in the same puzzle, two dental clues, but there aren't any more. HOLLOW and NOOK seemed like a good pair and then the rest followed from there. Green Group was easy, as once you figure out that PLAQUE isn't for the dentist, the other four answers present themselves quickly. Blue Group I would say was the hardest one this time around. I saw FERMENT and PROOF and thought this may have something to do with alcohol, and it was my last one solved as a default as I just really don't know anything about breadmaking. SPOILER WARNING: Information about NYT Strands today is below, so don't read on if you don't want to know the answers. • Today's NYT Strands theme is… Top contenders Play any of these words to unlock the in-game hints system. TILE THEN FILE SAIL WINE SHINE • Spangram has 12 letters First side: left, 3rd row Last side: bottom, 5th column Right, the answers are below, so DO NOT SCROLL ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM. The answers to today's Strands, game #451, are… WINNER CHAMP TITLEHOLDER VICTOR MEDALIST SPANGRAM: FINISH STRONG My rating: Easy My score: Perfect I got off to a great start today, finding the word DINNER – which immediately led to WINNER. From there it was a fairly straightforward race to victory. I was convinced TITLEHOLDER was going to be the spangram as I was tapping it out, but that went to the marginally longer FINISH STRONG, which I'm not entirely sure works. You can finish strong and be a loser if you didn't start well in a race, championship or game and equally if you finish badly but started well you can still be a CHAMP. The reality of becoming a MEDALIST is that the quality that a competitor or team needs the most is consistency, which is why serial winners are often compared to machines. Before that though, it's important to lose a lot and almost win things, otherwise people will compare you to a robot and no one wants to cheer for a robot. How did you do today? Let me know in the comments below. FARM GAMES ANIMAL TALE HUNGER HANDMAIDS SPANGRAM: DYSTOPIAN NOVEL Strands is the NYT's not-so-new-any-more word game, following Wordle and Connections. GIANT SPARE SPAM SALE FAST ANTICS • Spangram has 6 letters First side: left, 5th row Last side: right, 4th row Right, the answers are below, so DO NOT SCROLL ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM. The answers to today's Strands, game #452, are… BUTTERFLY MOTH WASP FLEA HORNET DRAGONFLY SPANGAM: INSECT My rating: Easy My score: Perfect After getting BUTTERFLY, MOTH and WASP in succession, I thought we were looking for a spangram describing flying minibeasts. Instead it was the much more straightforward INSECT A six-letter spangram is very off-brand for Strands these days, but this game's ability to keep players guessing is impressive. That said, this was one of our easier days. I know many people like them, but the sight of a DRAGONFLY freaks me out a bit as I've got an irrational fear that they're going to fly in my mouth. So, whenever I see one I clamp my mouth shut. I guess I'm the freak, not them. That said, they do breathe out of their rectums, so there is that too. I don't want something that breathes out its rectum in my mouth, thanks. How did you do today? Let me know in the comments below.
