[UPDATED] Drugs found on man who stabbed cop
KUALA LUMPUR: The man who stabbed a policeman at Pudu Market recently was found with drugs, say police. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay revealed this after visiting the wounded policeman at the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) UKM in Cheras here today. "The suspect has a criminal record of 14 prior offences for crime and drugs. "The majority of the crimes were violent offences," he said, nodding when asked if the suspect was considered a habitual offender. Police believe he behaved aggressively because he was in possession of drugs at that time, Ayob added. Other senior policemen who visited Corporal Mohd Nadzri included acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management Department deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Aidil Bolhassan. Meanwhile, Ayob said Nadzri was expected to recover from his injuries in two weeks. "It will be some time before he is back on active duty as he has been through a lot, considering the surgery. "Based on the doctor's briefing, he suffered a 3cm gash that penetrated 7cm into his abdomen. "No other vital organs were injured, except for his intestines. He is being monitored for internal bleeding." Asked if Nadzri was wearing a body-worn camera (BWC) at the time of the incident, Ayob said he was not. "We have requested that all our motorcycle patrol and patrol car unit personnel, as well as those on crime prevention rounds, be equipped with BWCs. "Such incidents show the importance of having these BWCs. Hopefully we will get enough of these to equip these personnel soon," he said, adding that 7,648 BWCs are already being used. He said there were plans to roll out another 10,000 units for phase two of the project. Nadzri was stabbed while conducting a routine crime prevention patrol at the Pudu Market area on Thursday. The incident occurred around 12.55pm when the victim and four other officers were inspecting a suspect on Jalan Yew. The suspect suddenly attacked Nadzri with a knife, stabbing him in the abdomen before fleeing. Nadzri was rushed to HCTM UKM for emergency treatment. Acting on information, police caught the 56-year-old suspect shortly after the incident. A search later found a knife measuring approximately 21.5cm and three transparent plastic packets containing yellowish powder and chunks, suspected to be drugs.

Smuggled items worth RM6.5mil seized by Customs
Party's over: Nadzri (right) showing the seized liquor at a press conference in Ayer Keroh, Melaka. — Bernama MELAKA: Smuggled goods, including rice, worth about RM6.54mil were seized by the Melaka Customs Department in different raids from January to April this year. Department director Nadzri Che Ani said in one of the first seizures, 623,000kg of rice was found in 28 cargo containers at Port Klang, Selangor, on Jan 20 and Feb 6. The rice, believed to be from India, was worth RM5.23mil including duties, Bernama reported. 'The goods were first declared as sodium chloride (salt). The inspection found that each container held 70 sacks of salt and 445 sacks of rice. 'The sacks containing rice were fraudulently hidden at the back and the sacks of salt were placed at the front of the containers near the door,' he told a press conference here yesterday. Nadzri said the goods were likely brought in from India for the local market, adding that the owner of the import company and shipping agent have been detained. Rice is classified as a prohibited item under Item 25, Third Schedule/Part 1 of the Customs (Prohibition on Imports) Order 2023 and the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967. In separate raids on March 7 and April 11 in Johor Baru, the department seized liquor worth RM499,621 including duties. 'In the operation, a total of 8,585 litres of liquor were seized from three multi-purpose vehicles. 'Inspections found that the liquor had a 'Malaysian Duty Not Paid' status and was an abuse of the exemption given in the duty-free area,' he said. On April 5, Nadzri said the department seized 1.1 million cigarettes worth RM822,800 including duties that were stored in an unoccupied warehouse at a durian orchard in Muar, Johor. All three cases are being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
