Nag Panchami 2025 Do's and Don'ts on this day
India celebrates Nag Panchami today on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. In the Hindu religion, it is one of the important days. Hindus worship the Naga Devta (serpent gods) on this day. Every year during the month of Shravan (July–August), Nag Panchami is celebrated on the Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha.
Importance of Nag Panchami
Fasting on the day of Nag Panchami is considered to provide protection against snakebite fear and also from the untimely death. Devotees offer their sincere prayers to Nagas by following proper rituals and rites according to their region. On this day, milk, sweets, flowers, and diyas are used to worship idols or pictures of snake gods. In several locations, believers also feed live snakes milk. Nagoba Temple in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and Naga Chadreshwar Temple in Ujjain is well-known for its Naga Panchami puja.
Do's
On Nag Panchami Day, observe a fast since it is believed to be a way to remove the fears of snakebite.
Honor snake gods on this auspicious day and present them with milk, sweets, and flowers.
Recite the mantras of Nag Panchami or Shiva Mantras as they are associated with Lord Shiva.
Nag Panchami puja represents the importance of valuing, loving, and embracing all life on Earth.
Don't do these things on Nag Panchami day
On Nag Panchami Day, sewing with needle threads is considered unlucky.
On Nag Panchami, avoid cooking in an iron vessel or setting an iron pan on fire.
On this day, avoid cutting down trees as it could kill or injure snakes that are hiding or residing there.
On Nag Panchami Day, avoid ploughing the ground as this may injure or kill any snakes that may be living there.
