Midland ISD asks for community input for two new middle school names
MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)—MISD is asking for the community's input on the naming of the current Legacy High School and the current Midland Freshman High School, which will be converted to middle schools as a result of the 2023 school bond. The naming of the two campuses is part of the grade reconfiguration that will take place with the opening of the new 9-12 high school campuses.
In 2028, Legacy High School and Midland High School will serve grades 9-12 in their new facilities. The existing Legacy High School and Midland Freshman buildings will be converted to 6th-8th grade middle schools. The district would like the community's input on the names of these converted middle schools.
The school name will be based on community, parent, student and staff nominations through the Naming 2028-29 Middle School (LHS Existing Building) Community Survey and the Naming 2028-29 Middle School (MFHS Existing Building) Community Survey. The survey will remain open for nominations until April 28, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. A link to the surveys will also be housed on shared by social media and in newsletters to all employees and parents. After the survey period has closed, the Naming Committee will review all submissions and make a recommendation to the school board for approval in May.
The name must meet one of the following criteria: In memory of a person who has served the district or community, especially in service to children.
In memory of any person who has made a significant contribution to society and/or education, his or her name shall lend prestige and status to an institution of learning.
A local residential or geographic area; or
