Andhra Pradesh government to streamline New Development Bank-funded road projects, to release ₹200 crore

Vijayawada: The state government has decided to streamline projects taken up with financial assistance from the New Development Bank (NDB). In 2021, the state govt, during the YSRCP regime, signed an agreement with NDB to develop approximately 1,300 km of roads. After returning to power, the NDA government decided to revive the project by providing a state grant. The govt has decided to remove works that have not commenced and will focus on ongoing projects and those for which the tender process was completed. The NDB had promised to grant a loan to widen single-lane roads from mandal headquarters to district headquarters into two-lane roads. Although the govt initially planned to widen 1,300 km of roads, only about 71 km were completed due to financial constraints following the COVID-19 pandemic. Chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the project and directed officials to prepare a fresh detailed project report (DPR). He also instructed the finance department to release ₹200 crore to clear contractors' dues and expedite the balance projects. The state govt has trimmed the project to around 900 km to complete the first phase as soon as possible and has directed officials to prepare a blueprint for the second phase during 2025-26.

Emotional scenes unfold at TDP Mahanadu in Kadapa as AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu praises district president for grand success of party's maiden conclave

TIRUPATI: The maiden TDP Mahanadu's public meeting held at Kadapa on Friday witnessed some emotional scenes when Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu appreciated Kadapa district TDP President Reddeppagari Sreenivasulu Reddy and his wife, Kadapa MLA R Madhavi Reddy, for the grand success of the ruling party's maiden annual conclave. This was followed by a massive public meeting attended by more than five lakh people from across the state. Since the inception of the TDP back in the 1980s, the TDP never held its party annual conclave, Mahanadu, at Kadapa in the last forty years, as Kadapa remained a stronghold of the Congress party and then the YSRCP until 2019. However, after the TDP-led NDA alliance managed to make inroads into Kadapa, considered the bastion of former Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy , in the 2024 general elections by securing 7 out of 10 assembly seats, coupled with the party securing 45 out of 52 assembly constituencies in the four Rayalaseema districts of the state, the TDP leadership deemed it fit to hold their maiden Mahanadu at Kadapa. This decision came in the first year after the NDA alliance stormed back to power by securing a landslide victory, winning 164 out of 175 assembly constituencies in the general elections. After Kadapa became host to the first-ever TDP Mahanadu attended by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu himself, along with all his council of ministers and other elected representatives from the TDP on the first two days of the event on Tuesday and Wednesday, all eyes were on the grand finale. This was held in the form of a public meeting, which was scheduled to be attended by over five lakh people from across the state. When the chief minister reached the public meeting venue at Kadapa on Friday, he was thoroughly ecstatic with the arrangements and the overflowing crowds. When Chandrababu Naidu looked at Kadapa district TDP President Sreenivasulu Reddy and remarked, 'Srinivas, you have done an excellent job in terms of the arrangements,' the latter couldn't control his joy and broke down emotionally into tears as the appreciation came directly from the CM. During his address at the public meeting, Naidu appreciated the efforts of the Kadapa district TDP unit and the alliance partners in securing 7 out of 10 assembly constituencies in Kadapa in the previous elections. He urged them to keep up their spirits and aim to secure a complete clean sweep by winning 10 out of 10 assembly seats in Kadapa district in the 2029 general elections.
