Singer Eda Ezrin, 5 others test negative for drugs in urine tests
KOTA BARU: Federal police today confirmed that urine tests conducted on singer Eda Ezrin and five other Malaysians, who had been detained in Thailand since November last year, returned negative results for drugs. Its Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said the tests were conducted at the Rantau Panjang police station and at the Kelantan police headquarters in Kota Baru between last night and this afternoon. He said the urine samples for Eda Ezrin and her friend, Nur Aida Mamat, who arrived in Kelantan late last night, were taken at the Rantau Panjang police station. "As for her husband and four other friends, their urine tests were conducted at the state police headquarters in Kota Baru this afternoon. "Police also recorded statements from all six of them," he told the New Straits Times. Hussein also confirmed that Eda's husband and three other Malaysians had arrived at the Rantau Panjang Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex at 11.30am today. "They were then taken directly to the state police headquarters," he said. He added that Eda Ezrin's husband and the three others, including a woman, were still having their statements recorded by the Kelantan NCID. "They will be allowed to return home once the process is completed," he added. Eda Ezrin and the five were detained by Thai police in a raid at a hotel in Sungai Golok town on Nov 1, last year. Thai police also seized 6,059 Yaba pills from the six. The Narathiwat Provincial court, in March this year, however, had acquitted them of the possession of the pills charge. The Thai prosecutors were permitted by the court to appeal the case and were given six months to find witnesses and evidence. However, until the last day of the detention period on Aug 6, the prosecutors failed to produce the evidence, which prompted the court to release Eda Ezrin and the five Malaysians.
