Nashik Sena (UBT) leader threatens to blacken Rahul's face

Mumbai: The deputy chief of the Nashik city unit of Shiv Sena (UBT), Bala Darade, on Wednesday threatened to blacken the face of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his comments on Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader from Nashik Sudhakar Badgujar said that the party had nothing to do with Darade's remarks and party chief Uddhav Thackeray would decide on action against him. While speaking to reporters during a programme to commemorate Savarkar's birth anniversary on Wednesday, Darade said, 'Rahul Gandhi used abusive language for Swantraveer Savarkar and a case has been filed in Nashik against him. We will not tolerate the insult of Savarkar.' Darade said that when Gandhi visits Nashik for hearings in court, he and his supporters would blacken his face, and in case they can't reach him, they would throw stones at him. While both the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) are part of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Darade said, 'For us Savarkar is important. Let MVA go to hell.' Reacting to Darade's remarks, Congress state president Harshwardhan Sapkal said the Congress would not tolerate such language for its top leader. 'Rahul Gandhi did not use any abusive words for Savarkar. He only quoted facts. We will not tolerate such threats to him.' Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe alleged the BJP was behind Darade's remarks and hoped Thackeray would take action against him. Later, Nashik-based Shiv Sena (UBT) deputy leader Sudhakar Badgujar distanced the party from Darade's comments, saying, 'For us, Savarkar is an idol and our party chief Uddhav Thackeray has underlined it from time to time. But we do not support the statement of Darade. It is his personal opinion and the party has nothing to do with it.' He also reiterated that Shiv Sena (UBT) was part of the MVA and Thackeray would take action against Darade. Thackeray had earlier slammed the BJP for not awarding the Bharat Ratna to Savarkar.

Sapkal: Rahul Unfazed By Hindutva Threats

Nagpur: Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal on Wednesday strongly condemned threats directed at Congress leader and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks about Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Savarkar. He said such "hollow threats" will not intimidate Gandhi or Congress party . His response came after a Nashik-based leader of Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray, threatened to blacken Gandhi's face over his derogatory remarks against the noted freedom fighter on the occasion of his birth anniversary on Wednesday, drawing strong remarks from the grand old party's leaders across the state. He even warned of pelting stones at Gandhi's convoy whenever he would be in Nashik. Addressing the media at Nanded, Sapkal stated, "Rahul Gandhi's grandmother and former Prime Ministers -- Indira and father Rajiv -- sacrificed their lives for the nation. Rahul, who belongs to a family of martyrs, does not fear these empty threats." He said that Gandhi's comments on Savarkar were not personal jabs but historical facts. Highlighting that similar views on Savarkar have been expressed by historians & even by BJP leader Arun Shourie, who served as a minister under Atal Bihari Vajpayee's NDA govt, Sapkal added, "If there's an issue with evaluating Savarkar's legacy, critics should also consider what experts like Shourie have written about him."

ED searches at 3 places in Rs 300cr laundering probe

Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches across Nashik, Kopargaon (Shirdi), and Thane regarding a Rs 300 crore money laundering investigation linked to banking fraud involving Nashik-based KGS Sugar and Infra Corporation Ltd company and its director Dinkar Bodke and associates. The operation resulted in the seizure of Rs 70.4 lakh in cash, gold jewellery valued at Rs 1.4 crore, a luxury vehicle, and shares held in demat accounts. The investigation stems from an FIR filed in Maharashtra's Jalna district, alleging cheating, criminal conspiracy, forgery, and criminal misconduct against KGS Sugar and Infra Corporation ltd, Bodke, and others. According to the ED, KGS Sugar improperly acquired Rs 350 crore in bank loans from a consortium headed by Canara Bank. The agency said in a release that the funds were misappropriated through multiple round-tripping and diversions, utilising specially created entities. The diverted funds were channelled through organisations connected to civil contractors, EPC contractors, and others, disguised as legitimate business transactions.

DRI arrests director of Nashik firm in ₹9-crore nutrition import duty evasion case

MUMBAI: The Mumbai unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Saturday arrested the director of a Nashik-based company for allegedly mis-declaring imported nutrition products worth ₹54 crore to evade customs duty of ₹9 crore. The products were imported from China, sources said. The accused was intercepted at Mumbai international airport upon arrival from Barcelona, Spain. He was subsequently produced before a city magistrate's court on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody till June 6. The DRI initiated its investigation following specific intelligence that the company was falsely declaring imported nutritional supplements—such as Pea Protein and Collagen Peptides—as Glycine, a relatively low-value amino acid. Glycine attracts lower customs duty due to its classification, which is different from high-value nutrition supplements. In January this year, based on this tip-off, four containers imported by the firm were detained for detailed examination. The investigation allegedly revealed significant discrepancies between the declared goods and their actual contents, confirming suspicions of misclassification and misuse of duty concessions. According to officials, the accused had earlier ignored summons issued by the DRI, citing health reasons, but was later found to have travelled to Spain to attend an exhibition. He had also allegedly attempted to mislead investigators and manipulate documentation related to the imports. Though he had voluntarily deposited ₹2 crore towards the alleged ₹9 crore duty liability on May 16, he did so without admitting guilt. Sources said the director was fully aware of the firm's import operations and the large-scale mis-declaration. The customs duty evasion amounts to an offence under sections 132 and 135 of the Customs Act, they added.
