Hattiesburg organizations unite for ‘Stamp Out Hunger' food drive
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – Several Hattiesburg organizations are participating in the National Association of Letter Carriers' 'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive on Saturday, May 10. Residents are encouraged to fill a grocery bag with healthy, non-perishable food items and leave it next to their mailbox. Their letter carrier will pick up the donation during regular mail delivery. All donated food will be distributed locally to Christian Services, the Edwards Street Fellowship Center, The Salvation Army and The Children's Feeding Task Force. Hattiesburg unveils 'Right Down Broadway' plan The food drive is the largest single-day food collection effort in the country. Organizers said local pantries are seeing greater demand as summer approaches. 'At Edward's Street, our food pantry is serving more people than we ever have in history. This is our second year to go into record-setting numbers, and what that looks like right now is 2,000 households every month come into our food pantry, and those households represent 6,000 individuals. And that's really staggering to think about that many adults and children that we all interact with every day who just aren't real sure where their next meal is going to come from,' said Ann McCullen, executive director of the Edwards Street Fellowship Center. Items needed are canned vegetables, fruit, soups, pasta, peanut butter and cereal. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. 33rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
HONOLULU (KHON2) — This weekend marks the 33rd anniversary of the largest one-day food drive in the nation – the National Association of Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Caring for mom, playing big role in Shinnyo Lantern Floating Ceremony WakeUp2Day's Chris Latronic went live in Pearl City with all the details. He met up with Letter Carrier & Media Coordinator for USPS, Adele Yoshikawa to learn more about this crucial food drive. Each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations from our customers. Last year, Hawaii letter carriers collected more than 879,000 pounds of food from throughout the state. These donations go directly to local food pantries to provide food to people who need our help. Over the course of its more than 30-year history, the drive has collected well over 1.9 billion pounds of food, thanks to a Postal Service universal delivery network that spans the entire nation, including Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin need is great, but you can help. Currently, more than 44 million Americans are unsure where their next meal will come from. More than 14 million are children who feel hunger's impact on their overall health and ability to perform in school. Nearly 5.5 million seniors over age 60 are food insecure, with many who live on fixed incomes often too embarrassed to ask for help. Their food drive's timing is crucial. Food banks and pantries often receive most of their donations during the winter holiday seasons. By springtime, many pantries are depleted, entering the summer low on supplies at a time when many school breakfast and lunch programs are not available to children in need. Participating in this year's Letter Carriers` Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is simple. Just leave non-perishable food donations in a bag by your mailbox Saturday, May 10, 2025, and your letter carrier will do the rest. USPS to collect food donations for annual Stamp Out Hunger drive
Letter carriers from across the country will once again collect non-perishable food donations as part of the National Association of Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, taking place this Saturday. Now in its 33rd year, the single-day food drive, billed as the largest such event in the nation, aims to fight hunger in local communities by tapping into the daily reach of U.S. Postal Service carriers. (Getty Images) Homeowners, renters and other residents can participate in the annual initiative by placing a bag of non-perishable food next to their mailbox before regular mail delivery. Their letter carrier will collect the donation and ensure it's delivered to a local food pantry, USPS officials said. Over the past three decades, letter carriers and postal customers have donated more than 1.9 billion pounds of food through the annual drive, which includes participation from all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This year's campaign comes at a critical time, USPS says, as more than 44 million Americans are food insecure, including over 14 million children and 5.5 million seniors. With food banks often running low in the spring and many school meal programs paused for summer, demand is typically high this time of year. Letter carriers, who see hunger's impact daily in the communities they serve, are urging the public to step up and help restock local pantries. USPS customers are encouraged to check whether their ZIP Code is covered by visiting or by contacting their local post office. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Donate non-perishables to stamp out hunger
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Saturday, May 10 is the 33rd anniversary of the National Association of Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. It will be happening throughout the panhandle early Saturday morning May 10. All you have to do is walk out to your mailbox and place a bag full of non-perishables by your mailbox. 'If you didn't receive a bag, we'll still take your food,' said Linda Kelley from the National Association of Letter Carrier Branch 3367. 'The letter carrier will pick it up on their appointed rounds.' Letter Carriers will still pick up goods at community mailboxes as well. It is also encouraged to check expiration dates of donated goods. 'Make sure there's not expired dates on the food you're contributing,' said Kelley. 'That just gets tossed away.' Kelley said they will accept non-perishables, dog food, and paper products to help the local community. Donations will go to local food pantries. For more information about this event, click here. 'Since launching in 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers' annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation's largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States,' said the National Association of Letter Carriers.
