74% of young adults in Wales want to be positive role models

The study, conducted by The National Lottery with Gen Z expert Chloe Combi, surveyed 5,000 young adults across the UK. It found that 74 per cent of young people in Wales feel a personal responsibility to set a positive example, compared to 79 per cent nationally. A further 79 per cent were concerned about the impact of toxic role models, prompting many to take proactive steps in real life. Across Wales, this is already happening, with 77 per cent of young adults surveyed saying they have taken part in a community project in the past year. 68 per cent want even more opportunities to get involved, from volunteering to leading local initiatives. One Welsh person getting involved is table tennis champion Anna Hursey. She became the youngest-ever Welsh Commonwealth Games athlete, won bronze in 2022 and represented Team GB at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She is now a UN ambassador for climate in sport. Chloe Combi, author and Gen Z researcher, said: "This incredible research from The National Lottery and myself both highlights and confirms what I've seen for over a decade – young people are deeply committed to community and change. "They are nothing like the self-absorbed stereotype often portrayed in the media. "Their admiration for role models who foster social good is refreshing and powerful." Thanks to the £30 million raised every week by National Lottery players, thousands of projects are funded across the arts, sport, heritage, and community sectors. Jonathan Tuchner, from The National Lottery Promotions Unit, said: "This study shows how passionate young adults are about stepping up as positive role models and making a difference in their communities. "They're determined to shape a better society, and that commitment deserves real recognition. "Every day, we see National Lottery-funded projects led by and involving young people transforming lives through sport, the arts, heritage and community."

How a Shetland pony is helping transform the life of young NI boy with rare genetic disorder

Three-year-old with KAT6A Syndrome needs therapy sessions, including some with a Shetland pony Little Leo Moley from Co Down needs multiple support therapies due to a rare genetic disorder, but his family never imagined that a Shetland pony would become part of his weekly therapeutic routine. The sessions are part of a National Lottery-funded project, run by One Equine Trust, which brings Shetland ponies and trained practitioners to the Mencap NI centre in Belfast. Working with the ponies improves the skills and confidence of young children with learning disabilities or developmental delays, including three-year-old Leo.

Mystery Lottery Winner Claims £5.2 Million Jackpot Prize

A lucky National Lottery player has stepped forward to claim the massive £5.2 million jackpot from the Wednesday, April 17 draw, lottery officials confirmed yesterday. The fortunate ticket matched all six winning numbers, netting exactly £5,281,290 for the as-yet-unnamed winner. The win comes during a remarkable month for lottery players in the United Kingdom. April has been especially generous, with many winners receiving substantial payouts. Many players turn to various platforms to try their luck, and the best online casinos are seeing increased activity among those looking to take advantage of great sign-up offers and other bonuses. The growing popularity of both traditional lottery games and online gaming reflects the British public's enduring fascination with games of chance. Allwyn, which operates The National Lottery, has begun its standard verification procedures before the multi-million pound prize can be handed over. Once the ticket passes validation, the winner will meet with a winners' adviser to receive their life-changing sum. As with all major lottery winners, the ticket holder will have the option to share their story publicly or remain out of the spotlight. Andy Carter, Senior Winners' Adviser at The National Lottery, spoke about the claim with enthusiasm. He noted that winning such a substantial jackpot fulfills a lifelong dream for most players and promised that the organisation would guide the winner through every step of the process. The fortunate ticket correctly matched the winning numbers 11, 26, 28, 31, 35, and 39, with 40 as the bonus number. The draw used ball set 3 and the Guinevere draw machine. The jackpot winner wasn't the only one who had reason to celebrate following the April 17 draw. Another player matched five numbers plus the bonus ball, winning £1 million. Further down the prize list, 38 players each took home £1,750 by matching five of the six main numbers. Players of Lotto HotPicks, which uses the same numbers as the main Lotto draw, also saw significant wins. One ticket holder claimed £350,000 after matching all five numbers, while four players who matched four numbers each received £13,000. The Thunderball draw on the same night produced winning numbers 07, 16, 29, 32, and 35, with a Thunderball of 01. While no one claimed the top prize of £500,000 for matching all numbers plus the Thunderball, one fortunate player won £5,000 by matching the five main numbers. April has proven a banner month for the National Lottery, with ten new millionaires created so far. Eight ticket holders have each won £1 million by matching five main numbers and the bonus ball, while two lucky players became multi-millionaires. The National Lottery reminds all players to check their tickets promptly, as winners must claim prizes within 180 days of the draw date. Any unclaimed prize money after this period goes to support National Lottery-funded projects throughout the UK. Lottery officials have announced that the next Lotto draw will take place on Saturday with an estimated jackpot of £3.8 million. Tickets must be purchased before the cut-off time for players wishing to participate in what could be another life-changing draw. Like this: Like Related

Winner of £300,000 National Lottery prize has just one week left to claim

The winner of a National Lottery prize worth £300,000 has been urged to come forward as their deadline to claim the money fast approaches. There is just a week left for the unknown victor to stake their claim and secure the massive £10,000-a-month for 30 years. The winning ticket in the Set for Life draw was bought in Sevenoaks, Kent, on 24 October last year. The price must be claimed by Tuesday, 22 April 2025. This will mark the end of the 180-day window the winner has to claim, with the search now well underway to make sure they don't miss out. National Lottery organisers have been busy on the streets of Sevenoaks to raise awareness and help find the missing winner who scooped the prize by matching the numbers 2, 11, 29, 37 and 45, and Life Ball 6. Kathy Garrett, who advises winners of the National Lottery, said: 'This kind of prize not only transforms the life of the winner, it's typically life-changing for their loved ones too. 'With just days to go, we're doing everything in our power to make sure this mystery person or syndicate comes forward, so they can enjoy the endless possibilities this prize offers.' She added: 'We once had a very fortunate builder who came forward not long before his ticket was due to expire. 'He won over £50 million and had left the winning ticket in the sun visor of his work van. I can't emphasise enough how important it is to search the places you'd least expect.' A spokeswoman for National Lottery operator Allwyn said: 'While the National Lottery is committed to finding the winning ticket-holder, if the prize remains unclaimed the prize money, plus all the interest it has generated, will go to help National Lottery-funded projects across the UK. 'This will add to the £30 million-plus raised every week by National Lottery players to make a difference in every community across the country.'
