Central Sanskrit Universities unite for Sanskrit's digital renaissance
TIRUPATI: Vice-Chancellor of National Sanskrit University (NSU), Tirupati, Prof GSR Krishnamurthy called for a united and technologically-driven approach to revitalise Sanskrit and Indian knowledge systems for the next generation. He addressed the Fourth Utkarsha Samaroh (Excellence Ceremony) of India's Central Sanskrit Universities in Nashik on Monday. The event brought together eminent scholars, students and leaders of Sanskrit academia. The guests included Prof Murali Manohar Pathak, Vice-Chancellor of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, and Prof Srinivasa Varkhedi, Vice-Chancellor of the host institution, Central Sanskrit University. Together, they contributed to the success and intellectual richness of the ceremony. In his keynote address, Prof Krishnamurthy stressed that the three Central Sanskrit Universities are working in close coordination to develop comprehensive strategies aimed at promoting Sanskrit education and cultural knowledge. 'We are in an era where ancient wisdom and modern tools must go hand in hand. Our universities are not working in isolation. We are pooling our resources, expertise and vision to take Sanskrit to greater heights,' he said. He underscored the significance of adapting Sanskrit pedagogy to suit contemporary learners. 'Our goal over the next decade is to harness modern technology to make Sanskrit's profound knowledge accessible to students across India and beyond,' Prof Krishnamurthy remarked. He emphasised that this approach would not only preserve Sanskrit but also make it a dynamic force in modern education and intellectual discourse. The Utkarsha Samaroh also featured extensive discussions by leading Sanskrit scholars on the integration of Indian culture and values into modern education. Speakers explored how digital platforms, multimedia resources and interdisciplinary approaches can make Sanskrit more engaging and impactful. During this Utkarsha festival, a book on Vedic Mathematics, authored by Head of the department of Mathematics at NSU Prof V Ramesh Babu, was also released. Similarly, the book 'Sri Chaitanya Philosophy' was unveiled by the guests.

Sambasiva Murthy honoured with ‘Mahamahopadhyaya' award
Tirupati: Renowned Sanskrit scholar Dr Kambhampati Sambasiva Murthy was conferred the prestigious 'Sanskrit Mahamahopadhyaya' award by the National Sanskrit University, Tirupati, in a grand ceremony held in Allahabad. The award was presented by Dr Sudhir Narayanan, Judge of the Allahabad High Court, in recognition of Dr Sambasiva Murthy's four decades of exceptional service to Sanskrit language and literature. Hailing from Agiripalli in Krishna District, Dr Sambasiva Murthy's academic journey spans both traditional and modern disciplines. He holds MA degrees in Sanskrit and Telugu and has served in key academic and administrative roles across reputed Sanskrit institutions. Over the years, he has guided 22 PhD and 6 MPhil. scholars, authored more than 20 scholarly works, and actively participated in national and international seminars. Among his numerous accolades are honours from the Queen of Thailand and several national awards, underscoring his profound impact on Sanskrit scholarship and education. University dignitaries and attendees applauded Dr Sambasiva Murthy's lifelong dedication to the promotion and preservation of Sanskrit. On this occasion, Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Prof GSR Krishna Murthy, faculty, officials, and university staff congratulated Dr Sambasiva Murthy.

NSU delegation participates in YUGM at Bharat mandapam
Tirupati: National Sanskrit University (NSU) Vice Chancellor Prof GSR Krishna Murthy, Academic Dean Prof Rajanikanth Shukla, and former Registrar Prof RJ Ramashree took part in the 'YUGM' – a collaboration aimed at advancing future technologies for a developed India – programme held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event was organised by the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Vidwan Foundation. The programme focused on implementing innovative initiatives and advancing academic development within universities. Speaking at the event, Prof Krishnamurthy described the experience as both inspiring and instructive, adding that the programme served as a roadmap for setting new trends in the field of Sanskrit. Faculty and officials of the university extended their congratulations to the participating delegates for representing NSU at the prestigious national forum.

NSU to set up modern school to foster research, innovation
Tirupati: The National Sanskrit University (NSU) in Tirupati will soon establish a new Modern School aimed at fostering technical research and innovation. Vice Chancellor Prof GSR Krishna Murthy announced this at the inaugural session of the 2-day national conference organised in collaboration with C-DAC Bangalore on 'AI, ML, Quantum Computing, and Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS)' on Tuesday. Prof Krishna Murthy stressed the need for interdisciplinary research, particularly in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He also highlighted C-DAC's pivotal role in supporting Sanskrit research and encouraged innovation and patent generation. Delivering the keynote address virtually, Prof Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, spoke on the theme 'Sanskrit for AI and AI for Sanskrit.' He underlined the transformative potential of AI technologies in advancing Sanskrit research and achieving new academic frontiers. Dr SD Sudarshan, Executive Director of C-DAC Bangalore, elaborated on the practical applications of AI in Sanskrit grammar, coining new terms, and transmitting traditional scientific knowledge to younger generations through modern tools. NSU Registrar KV Narayana Rao drew historical parallels between ancient Indian military technology and modern innovations, citing the example of the Brahmastra in comparison with nuclear weaponry, to emphasize the depth of technological wisdom in Indian tradition. Prof K Ganapathi Bhat, Chair and Coordinator of the conference, along with Prof RJ Ramasri and Prof Rajanikant Shukla, also addressed the gathering and contributed to the discussions.

Sanskrit scholar from Ganjam wins Sahitya Akademi award
1 2 Berhampur: Somanath Dash , a 48-year-old Sanskrit scholar from Nalabanta near Aska in Ganjam district, has been awarded the 2024 Sahitya Akademi Award for translation. The award was in recognition of his Sanskrit translation of acclaimed Odia novel 'Lalitalabangalata', originally written by Braja Mohan Mohanty . Dash, an associate professor in the department of research and publication at the National Sanskrit University, Tirupati, received the confirmation letter from the Akademi on Monday. "I am very happy as the award is a recognition of my hard work," said Dash. 'Lalitalabangalata' chronicles the life of renowned Sanskrit poet Jayadev, whose masterpiece 'Gita Govinda' is considered to be dedicated to Lord Jagannath. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a copper plaque, and will be presented during a special function whose date is yet to be announced. A prolific author, Dash has penned several Sanskrit works including 'Srikhetre Jagannath', 'Vamsivinodah' and 'Corona-Dhanam'. His latest work, 'Narendraroharam', comprises 1,200 verses across 12 chapters, documenting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's journey since childhood. The work, which includes English and Hindi translations, took four years to complete.
