Secure permissions for Ganesh pandals before Aug 20: NMC
Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced that Ganesh mandals must apply online for permission to set up pandals for Ganeshotsav, beginning from Aug 27. In order to ensure that a pandal is authorized, the applications must be submitted through the NMC's web portal before Aug 20. The NMC has decided to not grant permission to applications received less than a week before the festival starts. "Once approved, the mandals are required to display the permission prominently on the front of their pandals. Failure in doing so will result in the pandal being deemed unauthorized and subsequently removed by the NMC's anti-encroachment department," a civic official said. This directive applies to the approximately 1,000 Ganesh mandals across the six divisions of Nashik city. The NMC charges Rs750 each for pandal/stage and an equal amount to erect welcome arches by the mandals during the Ganeshotsav, while the advertising tax is Rs30 per sq ft per day. Last year, in order to facilitate the mandals, the civic body had waived off the charges for pandals, stages and welcome arches. But this year, the civic body will be recovering the charges. Moreover, it will also be applicable for other festivals like Navaratra when pandals are erected for celebrations. The Ganesh mandals require various permissions for putting up pandals, stages, hoardings, electricity connections, etc.

Port of Spain: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Trinidad and Tobago on Friday, called Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar 'Bihar ki Beti' (daughter of Bihar). Speaking to the Indian community, Modi said: "We are not just connected by blood or surname; we are connected by belonging. India looks out to you and welcomes you. The ancestors of PM Kamla were from Bihar's Buxar. She has also visited the place. People consider her the daughter of Bihar.' 'Bihar's heritage is the pride of India and the world... Bihar has shown the way to the world in various fields for centuries. New opportunities will emerge from Bihar in the 21st century also," he added. The journey of the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago is one of courage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, emphasising that the hardships their ancestors endured could have 'broken even the strongest spirits'. 'They left the Ganga and Yamuna behind but carried the Ramayana in their hearts,' Modi said, calling them messengers of a 'timeless civilisation'. "Navaratra, Mahashivratri and Janmashtami are celebrated here with joy, spirit and pride. Chautal and Bhaitak gana continue to thrive here. I can see the warmth of many familiar faces here," he said. 'The community programme in Port of Spain was spectacular. The energy and warmth of the people made it truly unforgettable. Evidently, our cultural bonds shine brightly!' he said in an X post. Around 40% of the people in Trinidad and Tobago are of Indian origin. According to India's Ministry of External Affairs, about 556,800 people of Indian descent live there. Out of these, 1,800 are Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), while the rest are local citizens whose ancestors came from India between 1845 and 1917 as indentured labourers. Even though Trinidad and Tobago is a small country, smaller than Jodhpur in India, the Indian community has played a big role in the country's culture and economy. Indian traditions can still be seen clearly in their food, music, language and religious festivals. Additionally, PM Modi also announced that OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cards will now be given to the 6th generation of the Indian diaspora living in Trinidad and Tobago. The Prime Minister received a grand welcome in Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday.

Addressing the event, PM Modi said, "I am aware of your deep faith in Prabhu Shri Leelas here are truly says that the Holy City of Prabhu Shri Ram is so beautiful that its glory is praised across the world. I am sure that all of you welcomed the return of Ram Lalla to Ayodhya after 500 years... You had sent Holy water and 'Shila' for building the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. I have also brought something here with a similar sense of devotion. It is my honour to bring a replica of Ram Mandir and some water from the Holy Sarayu." He also reflected on his previous visit to Trinidad and Tobago more than two decades ago. "When I last visited 25 years then and now, our friendship has grown even stronger. Banaras, Patna, Kolkata, and Delhi may be cities in India, but there are also names of streets here. Navaratra, Mahashivratri, and Janmashtami are celebrated here with joy, spirit and pride. Chautal and Bhaitak gana continue to thrive here. I can see the warmth of many familiar faces here. I see curiosity in the bright eyes of the younger generation, keen to know and grow together. Our bonds go well beyond geography and generations..." Praising the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago, he said, "They left Ganga and Yamuna behind but carried Ramayana in their heart. They left their soil but not their soul. They were not just migrants, they were messengers of a timeless civilisation.
