‘My name isn't even on the list': Negeri Sembilan MB Aminuddin denies lobbying for federal role, leaves decision to Anwar

SEREMBAN, June 1 – Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has reportedly denied any interest in a federal Cabinet post, saying his priority remains on administering the state effectively. He dismissed speculation that he might be considered for a ministerial role following the recent resignations of two of his party mates, saying the decision lies entirely with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'I'm not lobbying for any position and I believe it's best to leave that to the Prime Minister to decide. My name isn't even on the list, so no worries,' he was quoted saying by Utusan Malaysia yesterday. Aminuddin, who is also a PKR vice-president, reiterated that Cabinet appointments are at the discretion of the party president and prime minister. The speculation emerged after Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli resigned as economy minister, while Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad stepped down as minister of natural resources and environmental after losing in the PKR party elections. Aminuddin were among those who defended their vice-president posts. He received the third most votes after Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. Science Minister Chang Lih Kang won the fourth post. Anwar has today again dismissed speculation of Cabinet reshuffle, assuring the public that the unity government remains stable and operational despite several ministers currently on leave. He said there is no urgency for changes within the Cabinet for now despite the two resignations.

Loke: Don't pressure Anwar over ministers' resignations, Tengku Zafrul joining PKR isn't DAP's business

SEREMBAN, June 1 — All parties are urged not to put pressure on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following the resignation of two ministers from the Cabinet recently, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He said the Prime Minister will make a decision based on thorough consideration and at his discretion, in the best interest of the country. 'The appointment of ministers is the jurisdiction and prerogative of the Prime Minister... I am confident that he will act wisely in this matter and will take various factors into account in filling any vacancies. So far, there are no vacancies. 'As stated by the PM, he only approved the leave for both ministers. So far, they still hold their positions, (they are) just on leave,' he told reporters after attending a Hi-Tea event with 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) top achievers in Negeri Sembilan here yesterday. On Wednesday (May 28), Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad were reported to have resigned from the Cabinet, effective June 17 and July 4 respectively, after losing in the 2025 PKR party elections. Rafizi failed to defend his post as PKR deputy president after losing to Nurul Izzah Anwar while Nik Nazmi lost in the race for vice-presidency. The Prime Minister's Office said in a statement that Anwar had received letters from the two ministers requesting leave and tendering their resignations from the Cabinet posts. The statement also confirmed that Anwar had approved their leave requests, and that any further decisions would be communicated by the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Loke, who is also the Seremban Member of Parliament, said that DAP would not interfere in the internal affairs of any party, including component parties. 'The issue of Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz quitting UMNO and applying to join PKR is also not our party's business. So, I'm taking the approach that if it does not involve my party, I will not comment. 'DAP members also know that and have not made any statements. I do not encourage anyone to make the situation worse if the issue involves component parties... if there is an appointment or vacancy, that is their business,' he said. On Friday, Tengku Zafrul, who is Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, announced his resignation as a UMNO Supreme Council member, Kota Raja division chief and party member. — Bernama

‘Privileged prisoner' Abdullah Ang dies at 79

Jailed tycoon Abdullah Ang pictured in Kuala Lumpur in 1989 when he should have been in prison. (Goh Seng Chong pic) PETALING JAYA : Abdullah Ang, a high-flying businessman who stirred controversy for receiving privileged treatment while in jail, has died at the age of 79. His death on Wednesday was reported by The Star, quoting his former legal adviser Selva Sugumaran as saying that Abdullah had fought a long battle with an illness which saw frequent hospital visits. His funeral will be held in Kuala Lumpur on June 2. Abdullah was the chief executive of the now-defunct Malaysian Overseas Investment Corporation when he was convicted of criminal breach of trust of some RM338,000 in 1986. He was sentenced to eight years in prison and a RM100,000 fine, and did his time in Kajang prison. However, the Malay Mail newspaper revealed in 1989 that Abdullah was able to roam freely outside prison and even had a carpeted prison cell equipped with a refrigerator, video player and waterbed. An investigative report by the newspaper led to Abdullah being pictured in Kuala Lumpur, where he was said to be helping run a family business, when he should have been at a prison-run orchid farm in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan. Former Malay Mail editor Salehuddin Othman said a special home ministry panel which investigated the matter blamed it on weaknesses in the prison system, while then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad ordered a shake-up of the prisons department to bring it along the lines of the national police structure.

An MACC source said the suspects were believed to have falsified claims in relation to the rental of waste disposal machinery and facilities. PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested the former owner and the ex-chief financial officer of a company for allegedly making RM8.1 million in false claims. An MACC source said the suspects, in their forties, were believed to have falsified claims in relation to the rental of waste disposal machinery and facilities. The source said the suspects were believed to be involved in corruption and money laundering in providing the services from 2019 to 2021. The MACC is probing claims the duo had made from January 2022 to October 2022, as well as alleged receipt of bribes. The source added that the anti-graft agency raided 11 premises in the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan under Op Flora, and froze 76 bank accounts with deposits totalling RM1.68 million. 'The two male suspects were arrested around 6.30pm yesterday when they were at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to give their statements,' the source said. The pair is under remand until tomorrow. MACC senior director of special operations Zamri Zainul Abidin confirmed the arrests.
