Awkward moment Martha Stewart issues a snappy response when asked about Meghan Markle's 'viral' jam during trip to Australia

Martha Stewart seems to have little time for Meghan Markle. The domestic doyenne, 83, is currently Down Under and hosted an In Conversation event at the ICC in Sydney on Wednesday night. During the event, Martha was asked by journalist and author Benjamin Law for her take on the Duchess Of Sussex and her viral jams. Meghan's conserves sold through her lifestyle brand As Ever recently sent condiment fans wild, selling out within just minutes of going on sale. The Duchess' range, which included a £10.80 (AU$22.50) raspberry jam, honey and herbal teas, generated immediate demand but has failed to replenish stock since the initial sell-out. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Martha did not want Meghan to overshadow her big night and she quickly shut down the journalist's question. 'No, I'm not going there,' she said before segueing into a story about meeting Meghan's father-in-law King Charles. Martha's pointed shut-down comes after Meghan was accused of stealing a Martha Stewart recipe for her controversial one-pot spaghetti dish. Meghan's dish was featured in the debut episode of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, and foodies were quick to point out the similarities between Meghan's and Martha's dishes. Perhaps tellingly, Martha updated her 'similar' recipe for one pan pasta a month before the premiere of Meghan's Netflix series. While the ingredients and method remained the same, Martha updated the recipe description to read: 'The original and the best' causing many fans to suggest it was a pointed comment at Meghan. Referencing Martha updating her recipe, Danny added: 'Did Martha know something? I mean she is very powerful, but I'm putting her recipe to the test to see how it compares.' Danny, almost instantly, put paid to claims of culinary chicanery on Meghan's part, noting the differing ingredients in the two recipes. 'Just off the bat the recipes have a lot of differences,' Danny said. 'Meghan uses a lot of greens... she also uses lemon, but they both use a similar one-pot method.' Danny suggested that perhaps Meghan had used Martha's recipe as inspiration for her one-pot dish. 'Every recipe is built on other recipes,' he said. It was a similar sentiment shared by Martha at her Sydney event on Wednesday, as she weighed in on the recent RecipeTin Eats plagiarism scandal that saw Brooke Bellamy accused of copying the recipes of fellow Australian cook Nagi Maehashi. 'I have so many recipes and it's hard to develop a recipe without having a repertoire behind it,' she told the audience. 'I don't think too many recipes are owned by anybody, they are handed down, used and changed.' However, Martha claimed that it can be considered plagiarism if a recipe is 'copied word for word'. 'If you print somebody else's recipe word for word in your own cookbook then it might be plagiarism but I think it's very hard to prove who actually came up with that recipe,' she continued. 'So unless they are word for word, you can't say they're yours.' Martha's Megan shut down is not the first time she has taken a not-so-subtle swipe at the Duchess. Back in April, Martha was quizzed about Meghan's Netflix series and the kitchen icon claimed she didn't even know it was out. Often seen as the 'original influencer', Martha was quickly compared to Meghan when her 'domestic goddess' TV series was announced - with people even saying she was 'entering her Martha Stewart era'. But when she was asked about what she really thinks about Meghan's show during an appearance on Access Hollywood, Martha appeared blissfully unaware - and seemingly knew nothing about it. 'I have not seen the show yet!' she confessed. 'So, has it started?' With Love, Meghan came to Netflix in March after it was initially postponed from January due to the LA wildfires. Martha, who was sentenced to five months in federal prison for fraud, is seen as the 'original influencer', known for her impeccable taste in cooking, gardening, and home decor. She rose to fame following the launch of her books on cooking, entertaining and decorating before getting her own TV show.

"There's Just Something About It That's Very Patronizing": Jenna Ortega Spoke About Wearing A Schoolgirl Outfit In "Wednesday"

One person who didn't want Wednesday to be quite so popular was series lead Jenna Ortega — at least, according to a new profile. The interview comes ahead of the release of Season 2 of the hit Netflix series in August. The success of the first season shouldn't be understated, as it quickly became one of the most popular English-language series on Netflix of all time. Though she had been acting since she was a child, beforehand, Jenna was best known for her roles in horror movies (or, for the connoisseurs in the room, the Disney series Stuck in the Middle). In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, Jenna said that she initially didn't want to take on the role due to the time commitment making television takes. "I was getting to this point in my career where I was doing movies and getting in the rooms,' she said. "So I kept telling everyone no. I almost didn't want to hear what Tim [Burton] had to say, and really like it, and feel like I needed to do it — which is kind of what happened.' "To be quite frank, after the show and trying to figure everything out, I was an unhappy person,' she continued. 'After the pressure, the attention — as somebody who's quite introverted, that was so intense and so scary.' Thankfully, things have gotten better with Season 2, as Jenna is a producer and the shooting location has moved from Romania to Dublin. However, she is still concerned that the role may affect her future casting as a person in their early 20s. 'I'm doing a show I'm going to be doing for years where I play a schoolgirl,' she continued. 'But I'm also a young woman.' She further echoed Natalie Portman's thoughts on the difficulties of being a child actor and then a short adult. 'I relate to that so immensely, and it's always been really annoying, because you just don't feel like you're being taken seriously,' Jenna explained, noting that there can be pressure on girls to remain frozen at a certain age. 'You know, it's like how you're dressed in the schoolgirl costume. … There's just something about it that's very patronizing. Also, when you're short, people are already physically looking down on you.' One thing Jenna does like about the character Wednesday is her honesty. "I mean, God, if you could speak to everybody like Wednesday — just say what you truly mean — it would be amazing!' she explained. 'It's pretty funny, when you think about it. She's an outsider, but now she's on these mugs, cereal boxes, and T-shirts. You're just thinking, Oh, man, she would hate this!' I saw one of such T-shirts just this morning. Jenna further emphasized that she's "grateful" for her audience — but excited to take on roles that are "older and bolder and different." You can read more here.

Will Aryan Khan's show The Ba***ds of Bollywood be to India what Seth Rogen's The Studio is to Hollywood?

The eighth episode of The Studio, Seth Rogen's Hollywood workplace drama on Apple TV+, revolves around his character of Continental Studios head Matt Remick desperately trying Zoe Kravitiz (playing herself) to thank him in her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes. Of course, that doesn't happen, but when Remick comes across Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos in the washroom and congratulates him for being thanked in every acceptance speech, the latter nonchalantly tells him that's a contractual obligation. Rogen revealed that when he pitched this episode to Apple TV, executives wanted Apple CEO Tim Cook in place of Sarandos. But Rogen stuck to his vision and got Sarandos onboard. To have the head of a rival studio do a cameo in your flagship show, and also to have him make fun of himself, is something The Studio team would've achieved with the same do-or-die efficiency the cast exhibits throughout the show. Based on a growing Hollywood studio's inner workings — conflicts, chaos, accomplishments, setbacks — The Studio has already been renewed for season 2. Watching it unfold weekly often begs the question, especially in the minds of those who work inside or on the periphery of the Hindi film industry — if a Bollywood studio would ever commission such a self-critical satire. 'With the current state the film industry and the streamers are in right now, do you really think so? Had they been so perceptive, we wouldn't have hit rock bottom,' says a screenwriter, whose show around the same lines is stuck in the pipeline of a leading streaming platform. 'I'm ready to change names or even try to get the NOCs, but the platform is not even admitting if that's the issue,' they add. The said show, the writer admits, is a no-holds-barred hitjob on the studio system in India, how major global players like Walt Disney Studios and Fox Star Studios wrapped up operations in the country, and how the corporates have streamlined the business, but killed the good ol' joy of making movies. 'At the end of the day, my show is a plea in favour of the movies. But of course, the studios don't get it,' says the writer. It's not like the Hindi film industry hasn't taken potshots at itself ever. Farah Khan's 2007 reincarnation saga Om Shanti Om and Zoya Akhtar's 2009 directorial debut Luck By Chance attempted the same too. 'Om Shanti Om was a blockbuster more because of the reincarnation storyline. The film industry setting was incidental,' said an industry insider. 'Shah Rukh Khan made more fun of his own character more than the industry itself, just like he did in Fan (2016), though in a different vein. And Farah's barbs were sharper and more direct in the first half, which was about the yesteryear film industry, instead of the contemporary setup,' added the insider. 'Farah and Shah Rukh had the muscle to bring together 31 stars for the 'Deewangi Deewangi' song. But that's what that film is remembered for — the celeb spotting, instead of some of the celebrities cracking jokes on themselves. Do we remember the witty and juicy Filmfare Awards segment more than the song?' The insider also pointed out, 'As a matter of fact, Farah shot that segment in true Studio-fashion: putting up a camera outside the actual awards.' Both Farah and Zoya, cousins and daughters of a film producer and screenwriters, respectively, grew up on the sidelines of the film industry. They both saw their families struggle financially, which gives them a fair vantage point to criticize the industry as much as love it. But unlike Farah's film that packed in more themes, Zoya's love letter to the Bollywood outsider didn't find as many takers. 'Don't get me wrong. It's a much-loved film! But as a junior artist told Seth Rogen on the sets of The Studio, 'I hope this is not a very expensive inside joke.' That's what Luck By Chance was: an inside joke that a few would appreciate, but many would struggle to decode the narrative winks. Hrithik Roshan, Rishi Kapoor, and Dimple Kapadia are all on point in the film, but ultimately, the film is from the point of view of the outsider,' said an assistant director who's worked with Zoya closely in the past. Moreover, Luck By Chance depicts the whims and quirks of the film industry insiders through a lens of love, instead of a magnifying glass that has more scrutiny. Konkona Sen Sharma's character remains a TV actor for years while Farhan Akhtar's rises the ranks because he blends in. The film presents both paths, instead of cornering the film industry to reflect and change itself. Both Om Shanti Om and Luck By Chance were written at a time when the studio system hadn't entirely found a stronghold on the Hindi film industry. Madhur Bhandarkar, who'd already explored a part of the world with Page 3 in 2005, promised to expose the industry with Heroine (2012), starring Kareena Kapoor. 'Like all Bhandarkar films, Heroine also sensationalized the events and characters. It's not that they weren't true. The origins were. But they were exaggerated for gratuitous effect. Whereas in The Studio, it's not the events or the characters, but the situation that's heightened. That places people we know in circumstances we fear, instead of dumping characters far removed from reality in situations of the same nature,' underlined a former film critic, now an industry insider. Just last year, there were two shows — Showtime on Disney+ Hotstar and Industry on Amazon MiniTV — that offered a ringside view of the contemporary film industry. Produced by Karan Johar, once alleged as 'the flagbearer of nepotism,' Showtime was as pulpy as that punchline, but eventually drowned in its own excesses. Whereas Industry, created by Navjot Gulati, has its moments, but is yet again a 2024 Aaram Nagar counterpart of Luck By Chance. 'Showtime and Industry are fun to watch, but they don't have the bite of Entourage or The Studio. For god's sake, The Studio made Martin Scorsese weep on camera because he was removed from a film! Will a Sanjay Leela Bhansali do that cameo here,' said an insider. To even come close, one needs a fresh directorial voice who hits that sweet spot between being an insider and operating on the margins. And a strong studio to back it up: You need corporate muscle and tremendous goodwill to combat potential lawsuits and Reddit threads. So, is Aryan Khan's directorial debut The Ba***ds of Bollywood that show? Backed by Shah Rukh's Red Chillies Entertainment, the show hasn't revealed any of its cards, including the cast or the plot. But everyone, from Karan Johar to Ted Sarandos, have sung laurels about the show. 'It's a fiercely guarded show. I can't say whether it on the lines of The Studio, but the word out there is Aryan has the right distance to be objective and the apt position to be an observer,' says a former employee of Netflix India. Right distance after his infamous arrest in 2021? 'No, even before that, unlike his father, Aryan's ambition wasn't to be a movie star. He always wanted to be a filmmaker. If Shah Rukh Khan's son can have and assert that clarity from such a young age, you definitely have to give him that he's objective,' the source adds. Also Read — The Studio review: Seth Rogen's scathing showbiz satire can take Apple to the next level; it's a Ted Lasso-level triumph Whether The Ba***ds of Bollywood turns out to be to Bollywood what The Studio is to Hollywood is left to be seen, but the screenwriter (whose show is stuck) is hopeful Aryan's show will empower other studios to greenlight scripts like theirs. 'I'm all for good stories. As long as we want to empower them,' they say, adding, 'Bollywood isn't really known for poking fun at anything, whether it's politics or businesses, but the least it can do is make fun of itself. Maybe that's the story it needs to get out of this creative crisis.'

Rick Caruso Confirms 2026 Reopening of Palisades Village, New Elyse Walker Flagship Boutique

Palisades Village — the luxury shopping and dining destination that ultimately served as a tony town square for residents of Pacific Palisades, California — is eyeing a reopening of 'early to mid' 2026 in the wake of catastrophic fires that ravaged the area. Palisades Village owner Rick Caruso and key members of his Caruso team were on site Wednesday afternoon for an official press conference to announce the news and reveal that Palisades retail guru Elyse Walker will aid revitalization efforts by bringing her namesake shop to the flagship space on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Swarthmore Avenue. Walker, who opened her Palisades store in 1999 and expanded over the years into something of a retail empire with stores in New York, Newport Beach and Southampton, lost her shop on Antioch Street in the Palisades Fire. Hollywood Event Set for June With Film Screenings, Premieres, Tributes to Norman Lear, 'Golden Girls,' 'Queer as Folk' and More The Upfronts Tease the Most Coveted Luxury Real Estate Projects In the World 'Today marks an important milestone for Palisades Village as it signals not only hope, but our steadfast and unwavering commitment to the Palisades. Our future here at Palisades Village is brighter than ever,' said Caruso CEO Corinne Verdery to kick start the press conference against the backdrop of an 'active' construction zone, hard hats and all. 'Our end goal is simple, it's to bring families back, small businesses, jobs, spark economic revival and make Palisades stronger.' They plan to accomplish that by reconstructing the public park inside Palisades Village, rebuilding streetscapes around the hub to 'beautifully restore the sidewalks, lighting and landscape,' bringing back the annual Christmas tree lighting and Menorah celebration this holiday season and adding 'an exciting new dining concept,' the latter of which will be announced in the coming months, Verdery confirmed. She then welcomed her boss to the podium. Caruso, the billionaire businessman who made a bid to become mayor of Los Angeles, has emerged as a key figure in the city's rebuilding efforts. He founded Steadfast L.A., an organization led by the private sector to 'prioritize action, accountability and results over red tape.' 'When the fire hit, and obviously in the wake of that fire, it touched every corner of our city. I became a student of what it takes to bring back a city or a town or a community from a disaster,' offered Caruso in opening his comments. What he learned was that public and private partnerships become key to rebuilding efforts 'because the problems are too big for a government alone,' and that common spaces that foster community become even more crucial. 'People want to congregate. They want to shop, they want to dine, they want to gather, they want to have a cup of coffee with their friends and their family. So how do we accelerate all of this? It's not only about rebuilding a town, it's about an acceleration of the rebuilding,' he added. 'I believe you have to have an economic engine. If you look at all the examples around the country or around the world, if you have a partner — whether it's a retailer or a restaurateur that believes in the future of a community that's committed not only to great commerce but great community — you create a powerful partnership.' That thinking led Caruso to pick up the phone 'a few weeks ago' to share his big idea that called for her to move into the Palisades Village space formerly occupied by Saint Laurent. 'Elyse said, 'I am in, let's rebuild the Palisades,' recalled Caruso, who saved Palisades Village with the help of a private for-hire firefighting team. 'Then she said something that was very powerful. She said, 'We will be unstoppable.'' Caruso then welcomed Walker to the podium with quite a compliment: 'In my 35 years of being in the development business, I've done business with a lot of retailers, the best and the brightest, but let me tell you something, there is nobody better than Elyse Walker.' The Palisades resident and retail vet, who raised her two sons in the city and opened a shop there so she could walk them to school, expressed optimism about the announcement while also nodding to the destruction still visible on all the surrounding streets. 'Today is an exciting day. It's also with mixed emotion as just five months ago, we watched our beloved community of the Pacific Palisades experience incredible loss, and my team and I lost our flagship Elyse Walker Palisades store, our work home, a store that had just celebrated 25 years,' she explained of the elysewalker boutique. 'However, I have always believed that the Palisades community is strong, and that in time we would heal and rise up together. Today is the beginning of our rebuilding efforts.' She called this moment 'the most pivotal time in the Palisades community history,' and said that her new location will mirror the old one and align with what Caruso has created at Palisades Village by becoming a hub for community and something more than a place that sells clothing, handbags and designer items. 'Our goal is to create jobs and enthusiasm. Reopening in the Palisades and moving our flagship across the street to the Palisades Village is incredibly exciting and important as we focus our efforts on supporting the strong and resilient town,' she said. 'We fully intend to recreate the Elyse Walker experience at the Palisades Village and look forward to a time very, very soon when we can open our doors and our community can reunite.'
