Tyler Kolek drills five threes as Knicks beat Nets for first Summer League win
The Knicks won their first game of the Las Vegas Summer League Tuesday night with a 97-93 victory over their crosstown rival, the Brooklyn Nets. Here are some takeaways... - Tyler Kolek shook off two stinkers to put up 25 points, four assists and four steals on 5-for-12 shooting from three, most of which came in an electric first half. MarJon Beauchamp added 25 points on 7-for-17 shooting via a plethora of aggressive takes. Advertisement The rest of the squad played supporting roles as Kevin McCullar Jr. and Pacome Dadiet were sidelined. - Drew Timme led the way for Brooklyn with 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Caleb Daniels chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds and Quincy Olivari scored 16 as well. - The Knicks were much more competitive out of the gate in this one. It helped that Kolek found his touch immediately with a couple threes, an in-between pull-up and flashy euro in transition in the early going, finishing with 14 points, two assists, three steals and no turnovers in the first quarter. - With first-round pick Egor Demin out, fellow rookie point guard Ben Saraf looked to take advantage with seven points and two steals in the opening frame; however, New York rode maybe their best offensive quarter in Vegas to a 24-21 lead. Advertisement - Kolek continued his tear, whipping cross-court passes around and controlling the offense -- he hit three more threes, a pull-up jumper and another catch-and-fire from deep on the wing. Ariel Hukporti commanded the defense on the other end, recording a block and showing off his touch with a little euro in the lane. The Knicks led 41-39 going into halftime behind Kolek's 23 points. - Beauchamp made an impact to kick off the third, hitting an open three, floater and jumping the passing lane for a steal into free throws, finishing with nine points in the period. The Nets remained competitive despite their poor shooting thanks to a big effort on the offensive glass. - New York desperately wanted its first Summer League win, though, going on a 14-2 run late in the quarter. A Beauchamp to Scuka alley-oop capped a big quarter as the Knicks led 69-60 going into the fourth. Advertisement - Even when Kolek cooled off, the Knicks offense persisted. Mohamed Diawara made a hard drive and dumped it off to Nnaji for an and-one, while Beauchamp made more plays inside. Brooklyn managed to get the lead within single digits in the closing minutes, but New York secured the win with strong defense and free-throw shooting. Highlights What's next The Knicks close out Summer League action with a Thursday afternoon matchup with the Pacers at 4:30 p.m.

Hoops And Slam Dunks Heat Up Las Vegas At NBA 2K26 Summer League
From rising rookies to slam dunk energy, NBA 2K26 Summer League in Las Vegas has been delivering nonstop action and unforgettable moments for days. I spent Monday at Summer League taking in all the action and excitement - from buzzer beaters to fan interactions to seeing NBA stars up close and personal. If you're on the fence about spending some time at Summer League, I'm here to tell you why you absolutely should plan a day to enjoy all the hoops action in Sin City. Advertisement NBA 2K26 Summer League runs July 10 to 20, with six to eight games per day before the finals on Sunday night. Dunks, Overtime, Impressive Plays, And More At NBA Summer League Evan Guerra NBA Summer League is a baller's dream come true. Multiple games per day for 10 days with Vegas as the backdrop - say less! Whether you just love watching basketball games, want to see the newest crop of future basketball stars in action, or love to be where the energy is high, NBA Summer League is calling your name. I recently spend a day at Summer League, taking in all the games, courtside excitement, and celebrity sightings, and I have some takeaways to share. Advertisement Watch The Games You Want Or Check Out All Of Them Evan Guerra With so many back-to-back games being played each day, you might be wondering how to pull that off. It is possible to catch a little of every game scheduled if you are strategic with it. The games have staggered start times with a game in each arena - Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion. The arenas are connected so it makes it easy to bounce over from one game to another so you can at least catch part of every game offered throughout the day. I spent the whole day at Summer League on Monday, arriving at 12:30 p.m. before the first game at 1:30 p.m., and didn't leave until about 9:30 p.m. Never thought I could sit in one spot for that long (with breaks to get food, go to the bathroom, check out any NBA photo opportunities) but I did it and the time flew by. Advertisement Monday's NBA Summer League Games Were High-Energy And Impressive Evan Guerra There were seven games scheduled on Monday. I caught four of them entirely and a few minutes of another one. I stayed in Thomas & Mack Center for Atlanta Hawks vs. Houston Rockets, Charlotte Hornets vs. Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz vs. San Antonio Spurs, and Los Angeles Lakers vs. Los Angeles Clippers. While I did catch Thursday night's matchup of the Mavericks vs. Lakers, I was a little disappointed that Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall 2025 draft pick, wasn't playing anymore Summer League games. I understand it, but I was looking forward to seeing him in action on the court one more time before the season begins. He was there though, so it was still cool to see him supporting his team. Advertisement Every game had something exciting going on - dunks, buzzer beaters, overtime, celebrities watching courtside. When I say it's action packed, it's really action packed! Utah Jazz Vs. San Antonio Spurs Game Had Fans Locked In For A Wild Game That Ended In OT Evan Guerra One of the wildest games I've seen in a long time, or maybe ever, was the Jazz vs. Spurs. Not to say the other games weren't fire, but this one had everyone in the arena screaming and jumping during the close game. I wasn't necessarily rooting for one team over the other, but a lot of fans obviously were, which made this even more exciting. A little friendly rivalry adds to the excitement, right? Advertisement This game went into overtime, and it only got wilder from there. In overtime, Kyle Filipowski of the Jazz made an impressive poster dunk to tie the game, but shortly after, Riley Minix of the Spurs hit a buzzer-beater to win the game 93-91. It was certainly a sight to see live! NBA Stars Were Seen Courtside Evan Guerra The games weren't the only exciting things happening at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion. Another exciting aspect of Summer League is seeing NBA stars and veterans roaming around courtside to check out the next generation of NBA stars in action. During my 9 hours in Thomas & Mack, I saw Victor Wembanyama, D'Angelo Russell, Brook Lopez, and the king himself, LeBron James, to name a few. Advertisement James was accompanied by his wife Savannah and their daughter Zhuri to watch Bronny James play with the Lakers. All eyes were on the James family as they sat courtside cheering Bronny on, as well as all eyes on Bronny as he was playing. I highly recommend spending a day (or more) at Summer League in Vegas. The energy is undeniable, and Vegas is the perfect backdrop for the nearly two-week long event. All ages of basketball fans can really appreciate the energy and excitement that Summer League brings to Vegas. Have you attended any of this year's Summer League? Did you see or meet any celebs or NBA stars? Have a story to share? Email me. NBA 2K26 Summer League continues to the finals on Sunday night at 7 p.m. PT. You can still get tickets. Be sure to check out their website for more information.

Inside Penn State's soft start: Why a lack of a challenge early on could be a concern
Nevada, FIU, and Villanova are the first three home games on Penn State's 2025 football schedule. That sounds ideal on paper. Three Beaver Stadium victories with ease. However, Penn State may need to be on high alert because of that lack of a challenging start. Let's be honest. The state of Nevada is rebuilding. Last year, FIU's defense was among the worst in the nation. Villanova is an FCS program, although one of the better ones. Penn State ought to rule. However, it can backfire to dominate too easily. Will this team be prepared when the pressure comes in October if they aren't put to the test beforehand? When you're blowing teams out, you can only learn so much. When the game gets tight, what happens? What happens if you are behind in the fourth quarter of a road game against Iowa or Michigan? Identity becomes important at that point. Chemistry becomes important at that point. In September, Penn State might not be pushed. That is the issue. I heard it best from one Big Ten assistant. Winning every game by 30 doesn't reveal who you are. When someone punches you in the mouth, you learn. That won't occur against Nevada in Week 1. Most likely, it won't occur in Weeks 2 or 3 either. And this has happened before. Penn State dominated the first few weeks of the previous season. Then, in October, things became more serious. Additionally, they were unprepared for actual adversity and elite defenses. If they don't stay locked in through these early blowouts, there's a chance that it could happen again. This gentle start cannot be used as a justification for unwinding. It must serve as a launching pad. These games should be used by offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki to sharpen the offense. Get reps from the young guys. Try out different packages. To ensure there is no drop-off when the Big Ten schedule arrives, establish that rhythm with quarterback Drew Allar and the rest of the offense early on, because complacency breeds comfort. And you will lose if you are complacent in a conference this deep.

UFC Cuts Talented Veteran After Another Weight-Cutting Mishap
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JUNE 27: Dana White, CEO, UFC speaks onstage during the Canelo Álvarez vs. ... More Terence Crawford Las Vegas Press Conference at T-Mobile Arena on June 27, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo byfor Netflix) The UFC has parted ways with talented but skidding welterweight Trevin Giles following his second bizarre weight-cutting mishap. According to Giles on Instagram, he asked to be released and the UFC granted his request. 'To all my family and friends, thank you so much for all the support throughout the years,' Giles wrote in the caption for a post on Instagram. 'Just recently I requested to be released from the UFC and they have granted my request. Fighting in the UFC has been a hell of an experience. I've been at this for a long time now and I've known for a while that I would stop fighting soon. My life is pulling me in a different direction and I am grateful and excited to see what's next. Thanks again for all the love and support.' Giles stepped in to replace Jeremiah Wells and was set to face Andreas Gustafsson on short notice at the snake-bitten UFC Vegas 107 card that wound up with just nine fights on the ledger and a scrapped main event. However, Giles was forced to pull out of the fight due to an injury suffered during his weight cut. The fight was made a catchweight to allow Giles a realistic chance of being ready to fight, but there were issues. According to Gustafsson, Giles fell and hit his head during the weight cut and that's what pushed him out of the fight. No matter the specifics, this was the second time in Giles' career that he's pulled out of a fight at the last minute. Back in 2020, Giles pulled out of a fight against Kevin Holland after fainting hours before he was to step into the Octagon. There were indications that it could have been holdover effects from a tough weight cut, but Holland accused Giles of intentionally fainting to avoid the fight. In any case, Giles, 32, is a talented mixed martial artist. Athletically, he's in a higher tier than many of the men and women who compete in the UFC. Most of his losses have come against guys who proved to be legit contenders like Gabriel Bonfim, Mike Malott, Carlos Prates, Michael Morales and reigning UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis. Giles even owns a win over Roman Dolidze. The guy was booked about as hard as any non-ranked fighter in UFC history. Even still, he leaves the promotion with a 7-7 record under the banner but on a three-fight losing streak. Giles has a career in law enforcement and a beautiful family that he proudly shares on social media. And it sounds like he's calling it a career. If he did want to continue, Giles could be a solid opponent for someone in the Professional Fighters League. However, based on what we've seen during weight cuts, in the Octagon and on social media with his family, I'm rooting for Giles to pursue that next chapter in his life. I wish him the best.

Maxx Crosby Makes Personal Announcement Before Training Camp
Maxx Crosby Makes Personal Announcement Before Training Camp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders have been one of the worst teams in the NFL over the last two decades. Since the team went to the Super Bowl in 2002, the Raiders have won only 35.9% of their contests and been to the playoffs just twice, earning no victories in that span. Advertisement A major component of this continued failure has been an inability to find quality players in the NFL Draft. The franchise has a bad habit of picking busts in the early rounds and finding no value on Days 2 or 3. But in 2019, the Silver and Black selected Eastern Michigan edge rusher Maxx Crosby with the No. 106 overall pick in the fourth round, who has turned into one of the best players in the league at his position. Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby (98).Reggie Hildred-Imagn Images Crosby is now entering his seventh professional season with the Raiders and has four Pro Bowls and two Second-Team All-Pro honors under his belt. Ahead of training camp, Crosby made a personal announcement, which is that he will be releasing a music EP soon. Advertisement "Dropping An EP Before Season," Crosby wrote. "Haven't Put Anything Out In Years. Gonna Show Yall A Hobby Of Mine. PRESSURE. 🔥🔥🔥." Upon his arrival in Oakland as a rookie, Crosby impressed Raider Nation with his freestyle rapping ability in the locker room on HBO's Hard Knocks. As his fandom has grown every year, Crosby has continued to diversify his ventures off the field. He started his own podcast, "The Rush With Maxx Crosby," and has invested in several brands and events, thanks in part to his three-year, $106.5 million extension he struck this offseason with new general manager John Spytek. On the field, Crosby will be reporting to Raiders training camp on Tuesday, July 22, with the rest of the team's veterans. He and head coach Pete Carroll will be preparing for their first season together with the Silver and Black, which begins on the road against the Patriots.
