Former New York Giants Running Back Rashad Jennings Praises Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston Signings

The New York Giants, for the first time since Daniel Jones' best days, can feel good about their situation under center. In the short term, Russell Wilson presents a massive upgrade over Jones and the cohort of passers that followed him during last year's 3-14 campaign. In April, the Giants traded back into Round 1 to secure the rights to Mississippi's Jaxson Dart. Advertisement In between them is Jameis Winston, who signed a two-year deal to be the second-string quarterback while adding to Dart's supporting cast. New York is positioned to be far more competent, if not competitive, than a season ago. As such, fans aren't alone in their excitement for the upcoming season. Former Giants running back Rashad Jennings praised their quarterback signings on 'Good Morning Football.' 'Jameis Winston -- he is the morale of the locker room. He is the positive energy. He is the voice, the veteran that teaches these guys how to become pros. While who is doing the work? That is Russell Wilson collaborating with one of the greatest receivers (Malik Nabers)," Jennings said. "So I think you have to start with Russ.' Advertisement Jennings spent the final three years of his career in New York, from 2014–2016. He rushed 543 times for 2,095 yards and 10 scores and played a role on the 2016 team that made the playoffs. It isn't immediately clear just how long Wilson's leash is, or if Winston would step in before Dart. The rookie is expected to have a redshirt season of sorts, although accelerated development or catastrophe could throw a wrench into those plans. By signing two quality veterans, New York ensured that it could play Dart on its terms. A pulled hamstring or twisted ankle won't force the rookie into action when he's ready, and their two decades of experience only add to the factors working in Dart's favor. There is always uncertainty with a rookie quarterback entering the fold, but the Giants and their fans are right to be optimistic that, finally, they are handling a delicate situation appropriately. See it: New York Giants great Howard Cross latest to address 2025 squad

The New York Giants have had a parade of former stars pass through the doors of their training facility this spring to address the team, most notably Hall of Famers Lawrence Taylor and Michael Strahan and future Hall of Famer Eli Manning. This week, it was Howard Cross' turn. The former tight end who played 13 seasons for the Giants from 1989-2001 and earned a Super Bowl XXV ring, has been a constant in the building for decades as he has been part of the club's broadcast team since 2007. Advertisement Cross delivered a message centered around defending one's turf. Having the distinction of playing for two of the game's greatest coaches -- Bear Bryant at Alabama and Bill Parcells here with the Giants -- when Cross speaks, he's worth listening to. Cross is the only player to play in Super Bowl XXV and XXXV with the Giants. His 207 games played in a Giants uniform rank third in franchise history behind Manning (236) and Strahan (216). Princeton WR AJ Barber, Tiki's son, enters transfer portal

May 30 - Princeton wide receiver AJ Barber has entered the transfer portal, On3 reported Friday. Barber was a full-time starter last season and appeared in all 30 games during three seasons with the Tigers. He caught 109 passes for 1,264 yards and six touchdowns, never finishing lower than third on the team in receiving yards. Barber also played on special teams as a returner on kicks and punts. The Old Greenwich, Conn., native is the son of former New York Giants star running back Tiki Barber. A second-round pick out of Virginia, Tiki Barber spent all 10 of his NFL seasons with the Giants, becoming the team's all-time leading rusher. He scored 67 touchdowns and is one of three players in NFL history to accumulate 10,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards. The Tigers finished last season at 3-7, with a 2-5 record in Ivy League play under 14th-year head coach Bob Surace. --Field Level Media

Giants sign first-round QB Jaxson Dart

May 30 - New York Giants first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart signed his four-year, $17 million rookie contract on Friday. Multiple media outlets reported that Dart's signing bonus was just shy of $9 million. The Giants selected the Ole Miss quarterback with the 25th overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft after swinging a trade with the Houston Texans. The Texans received the No. 34 overall pick in the second round and No. 99 overall in the third, plus a third-round selection in 2026. The Giants also selected Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter with the third overall pick in last month's draft. Dart, 22, finds himself in a crowded quarterback room. In March, New York signed 36-year-old veteran Russell Wilson to a one-year, $10.5 million deal and gave 31-year-old Jameis Winston a two-year, $8 million contract. Dart started his college career at Southern California in 2021 but transferred to Ole Miss when Caleb Williams was set to take over as the Trojans' QB. Williams was chosen No. 1 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. As a three-year starter for the Rebels, Dart completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 10,617 yards and 72 touchdowns with 22 interceptions. Last season, he guided Ole Miss to a 10-3 record, including a win over Duke in the Gator Bowl, while connecting on 69.3 percent of his throws for 4,279 yards. He threw for 29 TDs and was picked off six times. --Field Level Media
